Trionx Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 wow... dude, you might have a problem :-P I was lucky to get ONE VDF, but 63? *wacko* anyway, about your problem, you might want to look into storage units... man, 63... Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 Ugh. Back during what I call my "****ing STUPID" days, I hoarded toys like crazy. Spawn, Transformers, Star Wars, underground comic characters, japanese diecast robots... Know where alot of them wound up? A big freaking DUMPSTER. All it took was my elderly landlord's niece doing one call to the fire department. (She even managed to have my landlady declared "senile", though she was sharp as an arrow... gold-digging witch...) But you know what? I'm glad I don't buy junk like that anymore. If it's not coming out of the package to be played with, I'm not buyin' it. So yeah, the question is... why do you have that many duplicates again? Quote
Jipay Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I think people should be allowed to do what they want with their money, especially if it has no negative impact on other's lives. I can't understand why you're doing this though lol Quote
Landlubber Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Sell them. If you're working 7 days a week you won't have time to build things anyway. I've got a mate with a Garage and a couple rooms full of lego. He rarely builds anything though. Seems like a waste. Personally, I don't work that hard so I've got plenty of spare time. As soon as I've finished building my new house (with designated custom built lego area) I'll set everything up properly. For now all the sets are built and randomly scattered throughout the house. snefroe Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I think people should be allowed to do what they want with their money, especially if it has no negative impact on other's lives. sure thing, but if he wants to save some room, might I suggest to sell 60 Vladek castles and buy a MISB galaxy explorer? 60 boxes traded for 1. if that doesn't save just a little bit of space... runswscissors Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I have to say I completely understand your point about not wanting to sell the sets off. I read that post and I HAD to register just to express my support. So hello, this is my first post! X-D I had a decent sized collection (mostly older stuff...I've gotten pissed with all the reissues and stopped collection SW sets). I had nowhere close to what you have. But it was pretty sweet. Of the super expensive sets, I had 4 AT-ATs and three RGSs. Those alone on ebay would total almost $1,750 depending on how high they would go. But the time involved in selling them was crazy! I didn't have the time to list EVERY set, track its progress, watch the bidders and examine their bidding history, etc. Most of my sets are opened and built. I was trying to make sure EVERY piece was there to get the best prices. The time involved was just too overwhelming! I was only selling the most expensive of the sets on ebay. It wasn't worth my time to try to sell of $10, $20, or even $30 sets. Besides, after the cost of packing the boxes up, shipping, and the listing/paypal fees, I didn't get anywhere near what I wanted for them. I did get lucky though. I sold a nice sized set to a guy that was kinda local, so I told him I was interested in selling EVERYTHING. I really got lucky because he had deep enough pockets to actually pay such a huge price for them. Even with a very very very big discount - I still got almost $1,500 from him! It was so worth it because I sold them "as is". I didn't guarentee that every piece was there. Vassel's collection is mamoth! How many of you guys would LOVE to have his collection? Now, how many of you could even afford to buy his collection if he offered to sell it to you for 10% of the MSRP (saving 90%)? You'd STILL probably have to spend several thousands of dollars. Even though it'd be a great deal, I wouldn't be able to afford it. That's the problem when you've got such large collections. It gets too big to even sell. As for why he has so many - if you find a deal on a set, you can't pass it up. At least that's how I was. I would definately look into insurance for them! A tip for storing...I always opened mine - so I'd put smaller boxes into larger boxes. I could cut down the size of my stored boxes to about 1/4 the original size by doing that. As for the unopened boxes, I've got no idea. Good luck! Sorry for such a long first post! Seeing your pic makes me miss my collection. :-( Quote
Holodoc Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Sorry for such a long first post! Seeing your pic makes me miss my collection. :-( Welcome runswscissors at EB! First of all you don Quote
runswscissors Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I'm all about the small collection now. Although with all these great City sets coming out, I don't know how small my collection will stay. The TRU sales are usually where I bulked up on my sets. Those and the K-Mart buy one get 50% off sales. K-Mart used to have a great selection of LEGO sets. But they've really gone down hill the past few years. The reason my collection got so big was because you needed to keep the dollar amounts close when taking advantage of those sales (as I'm sure everyone's figured out). Buy two get one free doesn't really work when you buy a Fire Station, Police Station and a fire truck! Quote
frogstudio Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hi to all you there... About the topic, I don't really understand the point in having so many repeated sets. If it's a hassle selling them (and you earn such big money as it seams) just find a nice chairty organization and donate them (and I'm talking seriously). In that way you'll help yourself and help others... Just my two cents... Quote
CP5670 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I have a pretty substantial stash of unopened sets too. They're almost all older sets bought off ebay though, and there are very few multiple copies of anything. The main reason I haven't built them is due to restrictions on space, previously in my bedroom and now in my apartment. I don't have nearly enough room to build and display everything at once, but I figure that will change at some point later on, maybe after I move into a larger place a few years in the future. I'm currently using packs of garage shelves from Home Depot to hold up all my built sets, but those aren't ideal in many ways and are fairly expensive too, so I don't want to spend much more on those. I keep the unopened stuff in my closet, which has four or five pre-built shelves inside and is easily big enough to hold everything. Quote
legotrainfan Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I'm also of dunamis opion. Just open one set and keep one MISB; but dunamis' suggestion that you keep those sets that are going to reach a high price in the near future is also good! Take that into account as well. Would be a shame if you got rid of them too early. Just wait till you get some more money for them. Quote
