legoman19892 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Missing pieces rarely happen. Although a Christmas village set didnt have the alternating colors of round studs.. Quote
legocharles Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I just stumbled upon this topic and strangely, yesterday I experienced an incomplete set for the first time ever (I've been building for more than 30 years, hundreds of sets...). The set is the lone ranger train. Four curved tracks were missing!!! huge pieces indeed. My son and I were unable fo complete the oval track... The four curved tracks were clearly missing, but LEGO mistakenly included 8 straight tracks instead of 4 in the box...kind of a substitution, but still, the curved tracks were missing... Quote

I hope you called and got it fixed! How do they expext someone to make a complete circuit with half the curves missing? You did get lucky with the extra straights, however. Those are not cheap to aquire, as they are so much more desirable. Quote
Lobot Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm amazed by the exceptional quality control that Lego has, I don't know how they do it! In all of the sets I've built I've only been missing one part (a 2x4 LBG tile) from 10221 and I received a replacement very quickly, so it's certainly nothing I worry about....and I do tend to worry about most things! And, I'll admit, I also ordered a replacement tan 2x2 tile that I thought was missing from a new 4504...and then found it lurking in the bottom of the box. Sorry about that TLG, but I hope that my purchases since then have more than made up for it!! Quote
simonjedi Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 'Living in Fear' is a bit too strong. At most it's a minor inconvinience and a quick trip to Lego Customer service, so it's not really a thing that concerns me. I think i've only had 4 or so missing pieces in the many many Lego sets i've brought, and one of those is the misprinted Delorian Flux capacitor. Quote
Cyberbricker Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I did get extra pieces once though, it was in the Jedi Defense II, I got an extra cape, some stuff for the door and the main body and head of the security droid. Quote
strangely Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I've had a missing bag of parts once and it was a bit frustrating waiting for them to be replaced (I was able to supplement most of the pieces, but none of the specially printed stuff). So I don't really fear missing parts, however misprinted parts are always a big fear. It seems like every couple of months I'm sending away for replacements for minifigures especially. Printing not properly aligned, colors missing and more on new minifigures. I feel like I've sent away for replacements nearly a dozen times in the last three years (And three times the replacement part was just as misprinted, in one case in a much worse way than the original piece). But admittedly that's much easier to deal with than waiting around for pieces that are just straight up missing. A few other times I've had one or two common pieces missing, but if I had it in my collection than I just replaced it myself. But usually in exchange for the missing common pieces a couple extra special pieces would be included, so it evened out. Quote

That is indeed what I fear more, I ordered some of the Exclusive Clone Trooper Lieutenants from bricklink and from 2 of the 7 I ordered the printing was really off and I mean really off. The printing for the front of the helmet was almost on top of it. What happens to me sometimes is that pieces that are supposed to be printed are just left blank... Quote
Doc_Brown Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I was terrified that 41999 might have a missing bit, especially the number plate! LOL I have had a few Lego sets with missing pieces, such as a large aqua set and a small Technic digger. NOWADAYS I'm far more concerned that the shades of colours will match! Quote
darwinquincy Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 After innumerable sets, I've never had a missing piece. However, I did get a broken piece in the Republic Gunship. It was one of the large LBG technic pieces, broken right through a hole. I got impatient and built it with a black one from my collection. Now I'm too lazy to take it apart to get to the technic piece, which you can see from the open door. Quote
AudiBobaR5-D2 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) Any set that I build, for some reason I keep missing the smallest of pieces which after a long time gets me annoyed, but then I find it after a bit of a short temper. Maybe that is why I am getting the hang of building any Lego Star Wars sets after all of this time since 1999. Still annoyance though, until I complete the set. incomplet Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Was going through the threads and stumbled upon this one. My girlfriend and I were building the Parisian Restaurant and we we're missing a grey stud and 1 x 1 Olive brick. We submitted the request on the 26th of december and got the parts in the 1st week of january. Being located in Australia; we were amazed about the speed of the replacement parts. the last set i built before my hiatus from lego was a ferrarri Fxx. I opened the box and it was missing a wheel. And form what i can recall; they were pretty speedy with the replacement part as well. I recently picked up 4 other Modular buildings. (with detectives office coming soon) 4 x Opera houses on sale (10234) and also 3 bike shops (31026) The Ecto 1 and BTTF Delorean Fingers crossed; no parts are missing. Sometimes i see some old sets with unique/rare parts on Bricklink and wonder if a rare or unique piece in that Particular color was missing. Would TLG still be able to provide it? Do they have a parts archive that gets replenished? Quote
tom20arc Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) Only happened once to me while building a big bionicle set as a kid, got a replacement at the store. Also when building sets I always fear of missing pieces too but end up finding them in the bag or hidden under the pile of bricks :P Edited January 29, 2015 by tom20arc Quote
Krusi86 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 When i bought corusant police gunship there was missing a 2x4 grey plate but it manage without it so it was Okay (not ok-ey) but later i found it in my spare parts so i tok the set a part to put it there cause i could not stop thinking about it Quote
Jedi-Bendu Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I read on Rebelscum that a member there got a Rancor Pit set that was missing most of the Rancor fig (fingers, jaw, nails)...so I feared having the same problem when I got mine..... I opened the box, looked for the Rancor immediately and yup: I couldn't find the nails. After a lengthy search I found them; they were located in another bag. When I got the 7965 Falcon instead of 2 grey bricks with 2 studs each I got 1 grey brick with 4 studs. Luckily I had spare parts so this error was easily fixed. Quote
GallardoLU Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 the only time I've had an issue with a set was with Fire Brigade, I received a Ninjago bag of parts (from the green snake motorcycle) instead of one of the bags for the Fire Brigade. after a couple of calls to Lego about it they identified the missing bag I needed, I had my parts 5 days later. I later learned that Fire Brigade had a lot of issues in its time, an entire run of the sets had a missing bag. I'm the only one I've heard of having a wrong set bag (lucky me I guess) Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 The only time I've EVER encountered a missing part was when I built Exo force 7705 gate assault. The part in question was a missing robot leg! I remember I got around this by sticking him in the front of the tank were you couldn't see the legs anyway. I reported it to CS and they sent me a replacement. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 This is the danger of storing a set for a long time and not opening it, especially if the set retires. You have no idea if you have anything unless you open the box and inventory the parts. If the set is retired, they might not be able to replace the missing part if it is unique or rare, and that could get costly on Bricklink. Quote
neoconagenda Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Imagine opening up a 10179 for the first time to find the mast pieces missing... This would be the kind of luck I have. Quote
WarMoose Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Not fear, necessarily, but I do remember cracking open a set only to find that someone had stolen the minifigures and resealed the box afterwards. I was only a kid at the time, so I didn't know that I could call up Lego, so, yeah, unhappy memories. Quote
Venkefedo Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Not fear, necessarily, but I do remember cracking open a set only to find that someone had stolen the minifigures and resealed the box afterwards. I was only a kid at the time, so I didn't know that I could call up Lego, so, yeah, unhappy memories. Around 2000, TRU had two Hasbro AT-ATs on deep discount. They were both pretty beat-up, but seemed sealed. I bought one, but didn't open it for a few days... when I finally did, I found someone had stolen the AT-AT Commander & AT-AT Driver figures and the side-cannons for the cockpit (or had bought the item, removed them, taped up the box & returned it). Of course the other one was gone when I went back, and since I knew I wouldn't be able to exchange it I just kept the thing the way it was. Better most of an AT-AT than none at all (and the figures were eventually replaced by better versions years later). For Lego, tho, I only had one missing piece, in the Ninjago Golden Dragon set. The red round 2x2 tile was missing; a 1x2 trans-black tile was in its place. An odd error, but no big deal, and the set was on sale besides. Also had a technic half-pin totally SMASHED in one Castle set recently, but there are always extras of those... no errors of note in my SW sets, luckily. Quote
Artizan Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Only time a set that had missing piece was from a Brickmaster book, which is not really a set actually. Quote
Brickr Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) While I don't live in fear of it, I do hold my breath when checking over the printing on each minifigure part, hate it when there is a noticeable defect. Edited December 15, 2015 by Brickr Quote
lowlead Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I'm amazed by the exceptional quality control that Lego has, I don't know how they do it!... ^This. In fact, I have such confidence in their QC that I'm relentless when searching for the 'missing' part - which is almost always hiding somewhere, or it was my carelessness. One time, however, after searching for what seemed like an eternity, I never did locate Cad Bane's legs from the 8128 set. Quote
