Modulex Guy Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 (edited) This will be my entry for the Miniland SEAT building contest. It is the SEAT Mii City car, based off of a VW UP! Still think I'm going to do some more work on it, but this is what I have so far: Comments Welcome! Edited March 30, 2014 by Modulex Guy Quote
Modulex Guy Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Forgot to add the inspiration pics: Quote
jonwil Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Not a bad representation of the source material (although the source material isn't the best looking car in the world :) Quote
Lasse D Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Of all the Seats you could have chosen, you probably took the hardest one of them all to build. It is very, very hard to make sucha small model look right, so I am very impressed with your build so far because I actually recognized it. Well done, and best of luck with improving it - this design is completely unforgiving :D Quote
rriggs Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 A great start to a difficult subject model. First impression is that I think that the front end had too much step between the edge of the bonnet and where it meets the windscreen so it doesn't look stubby enough and that the back is not flat enough. The three small VW group cars all have very flat back end. I would make the door handles stick out too. Definitely recognisable though and a great start. Looking forward to the next update... Modulex Guy Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks for your input, As of last night, I've already torn into the model and am making some subtle changes, hopefully it will improve it by making it a bit less "boxy". Quote
Lasse D Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 A complete rebuild? Then you can try to see the effects of the following ideas on the back side: - Use the curved 1x2 slopes to create the rear/C-pillars - this should make the grren house appear more rounded. - Use upside-down black cheese to conenct fully with the rear lights. - Use transparent cheese to make the rear lights (extremely difficult because they only connect from below) I have no idea how these would actually work, but it is always good to fiddle around and see how stuff works out. Modulex Guy Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Did a bunch of refinements to my model! Compared to my original model, I changed the whole front end and rear of the car! The front grill is now sloped like the real car, lights are darker, and the lower bumper is more refined. The rear of the car features cheese slope tail lights, the trick to the lights are that they are not connected to anything, they are wedged into the slots, and the top light is just resting on the slope! Not held on by anything! #HipsterStatusRoofRackYo! Quote
Lasse D Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 And I have to say - you totally nailed the rear lights! Well done! The triangles are now enough to make it recognizable from both the front and back. Quote

It was the only way to pull off the look! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Great building technique with those back lights ...I was thinking about some drop of glue ....so you have surprise me! The yellow totally rocks me! Quote
