Yes, it could look like a cover to Insectoid light/sound thing, but it has anti studs on the bottom like a regular plate. Fits the era though. The finish is not very good on it. I'll try to see if I can get some back story about it but I know many of the parts he got was not made during his time at TLG but (many?) years before

They we're just dumped in buckets that the employees (or at least some of them) could by for next to nothing

Hit me with an email again regarding trade

Cheers,

Man up and cut the pegs off, Walther  They're kinda useless with those pegs unless you're into CS/Belville crossover MOCs

I wonder why TLG made those in trans-red? Those Belville parts never crossed over into any System sets ..

I wonder if that was a concept insectoids lighting part.

He did not know. He picked it up because it was "the wierdest part among all those prototypes and I thought it might make a good conversation piece" .. he got that right for sure

That little spaceship is now on it's longest journey ever .. 6400km (almost 4000 miles for you yanks)

Cheers,

Ole

Would love to see a marbled one :)

You'd love to see (and own) any and every LEGO brick marbled! Haha .. Don't have any, but I'll let you know if/when I get some

I just got some 2 x 24 bricks in the mail. They were a little pricey at 10 Euro a piece but I think they are cool. I wish they didn't have the pegs on the ends.

Fascinating. What do you plan to do with them? I have two in white that I haven't found a MOC for them yet.

These aren't really parts in the traditional sense. They were made by Bayer in Germany to do strength tests on the plastics they provided to TLG.

They are 4x4, hollow, and about 1.5 bricks tall, with a slight taper towards the top.

You can see one of them being tested here: https://www.flickr.c...02/19550459784/

And here, you can see one still on the sprue, along with other test parts, including a 2x4 brick, which we can identify as a 7xC test brick because of the position of the mold pip on the long side of the brick: https://www.flickr.c...02/19987792309/

These test parts are not very common, which is surprising because the 7xC test bricks are found by the hundreds. Perhaps there were other molds that only produced the 2x4 bricks, which were used for testing several things, including color consistency and clutch strength over time.

@1974: love your collection  , thanks for sharing the pics.

The wonderfull trans-dark blue 4737 "4 x 4 x 6 Corner Convex Ribbed" panels have now travelled back to Denmark, across the Atlantic Ocean, to rest for good only a 100km from where they were molded in the mid 80's. Can't wait to make something awesome with them!

I think I might try to use lighting behind them in a manner somewhat similar to the 6781.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw that pic. And those orange bricks too.

It came from the Lego Universe game project. There were a few other parts that came from this. I'm not sure why they needed unique parts for a digital project. Maybe they had an idea to release sets for it also.

Ooh, could we get a picture of those parts in particular?

Part of a prototype jetpack, maybe? The shape is about right. (Although it would have needed a neckbrace, and those weren't released until 2002...)

No, I think it might be a part used for some 9V light thing. Anyway, we'll never know .. I asked my man and he said "I only picked it up because it looked interesting. I've never seen it before, but I thought it might make a good conversation piece" ..

And now it's in the hands of Walther .. Look out for his wicked MOCs

Sounds like a sweet trade. Those plates are awesome. The trans-black look more like trans-gray though, they're very lightly tinted.

Tente had some awesome space ships, but building with their parts is dangerous. Too many sharp edges!

Perfect MOCs as always

TLG ripped off a lot of parts from TENTE, like the 2877 (first made by TLG in 1991 - but made by TENTE in 1988 (possibly before that)). The early TENTE catalogues (from the 80's) are a great source of CS inspiration . Loads of great sets there. Funny, that TENTE never made a minifig. Those 'stiffies' look rather silly. Also interesting that TENTE didn't have a problem with military sets and I also like their extensive range of ships. It's a rather interesting clone company and I myself have a funny story about them if anyone want's to listen?

I know quite a bit about the designer who left TLG for TENTE, but it's old news and I don't want to upset anyone, so no tales from me this time - sorry

And oh, those 6x8 trans green plates are not from the 70's btw :
