Well, my gf is pregnant and just accepted my proposal, so yeah, I am the luckiest man :classic:

ring_1.JPG

(And since it's that ring is M-trony I guess it's also on topic, haha)

Yes, TLG should have used trans-green much more. I really like it together with light grey/black. 6901 is one ugly duckling though (and US only so I didn't have to look at that abomination as a kid) but I really like the 452/894 with trans-green instead of trans-yellow and of course the 6891 (my fav mid-size spaceship along with 6931 and 6929 (nice re-colour you made there))

That's one gigantic M-tron container if you're gonna put the 6989 inside! Are you going to make a cargoship to haul that around space also? Or _is_ the cargo container a spaceship? That would be very cool

Cheers,

Ole

I think you are the luckiest man I know. The classic space MOCs you could make with those plates! I always love the use of trans green in space, but it was never done that much. I really liked how they did the 6901. One of those plates would make a nice mod to it.

BTW the trans green plate I am getting may be a slightly different shade- I will have to wait for it to arrive.

Here is the concept to my next project and I will be using alot of non-production parts:

Well, that's the reason you couldn't get those two anti-freeze 1x1 pyramid tops

Drop the dropship, a flying M-tron container would be much cooler. It would be rad with a huge flat front and judging by the size you could use 3x4 panels for windows? They do come in that colour but is somewhat rare

Oooh those green plates! Funny that they're the same size as all the trans-yellow plates.

I also have a 4x6 plate so yeah, they mirror the trans-yellow ones

Cheers,

Ole

What about the tooling for these items that never make it into Lego's production schedule...? Normally for cost reasons these prototype molds would be for small single or double element position molds for small runs, these are normally made of copper so if any changes need to be it is easier to do in the softer material before forking out for a full production mold, Does anyone know what happens to these copper molds........?

Congratulations! I wish you much luck and happiness together.

I am happy to see you found the ring you were looking for, I know it was hard to find.

Here are some of my recent finds:

The black one is actually from Magicbricks' Brickshelf gallery.

I already have a blue one, I bought it from The Vault last year (for a LOT less than 403 Euro!). It's one of my favorite pieces :)

I completely understand your point, and despite the fact that most of what you can see there is LEGO which can be bought separately, I'd say that the colours that some of the bricks they use may not be produced in that very colour.

P.S: I really liked the fact that they gave you a 'factory brick' so you can remember your visit. :)

Yeah, I think the sword is the nicest of the lot. It has been on my wish list for about a year. Glad to finally have one.

There is one left on BrickLink if you don't mind spending €20 for it.

The large red 2x4 is a European style Jumbo brick (slightly different dimensions than the US version). It's a normal production part that was sold in sets in the UK in the late 60s. No other brick sizes beyond these 2x4s were ever released.

The gray plate is there to show the dimensions of the larger brick.

The red 1x1 "plate" is a prototype part, found about 20 years ago in a house belonging to a member of the Kirk Christensen family. Also found were 1x1, 1x4, and 2x2 bricks in several colors, along with some 2x4 bricks in colors that were never used in sets.

Anyone have any idea on what TLG might have intended for the trans gray color?

My source tells me that back then (pre 2k) TLG made parts like that all the time. Regular parts in "off" colours, prototype parts etc all the time. They might not have a need for them at that moment, or they were made for themes that never got anywhere (like Tintin/Monty Python) .. Anyway, they made them. Stocked them. And at some point, decided to sell them. They got out to employees and other weird channels. TLG do not have any of those wierd parts anymore (I know, as I've been told directly by TLG), it's now all in the hands of .... US

Cheers,

Ole

Tintin and Monty Python themes? I remember a Holy Grail video on the LEGO website back in the day, but I'd never heard of a Tintin theme. Makes sense, though. I'd love to hear more about those!

Lego had plans for a Monty Python set??

Some new bits.

. That coral piece is great! It has a lot of potential for MOCs. Worth the high price? Probably will not- imagine how much PAB could be bought for the cost of just one of those parts!

Yeah, have not heard about Tintin LEGO, more info on this? Cancelled themes are always interesting.

Tintin and Monty Python, why did you not do this LEGO??? Also, could you post a link to said video if possible?

Purely speculation, but if LEGO were developing Python sets, perhaps it was as part of the Studios line? It was out around the same time this video was made, and the Spider-Man and Jurassic Park series both started out in Studios...

Tintin was a ready made theme due to release. There was figs (normal minifigs or ? - don't know), sets and commercial stuff - ready to go

Source : I know someone who saw it all (but pics was not allowed back then)

Why did it not get released ? : This was pre 2K, before TLG really ventured into IP. Also the Hergé Foundation (who manages "Tintin" after Georges Remi died) are very difficult to deal with

Monty Python : This was talked about after that short movie (hearsay, not something I know directly, sorry). Many special parts was used, but NOT made for that movie (they we're actually allready in TLG's stock - but never released)

I know they sold of a lot from their BL shop after the movie. Don't have any first hand knowledge but I know MP didn't like to have their art commercialized. Also, it would be way too risky for TLG to go into that as their first IP

The maze/club is from that movie (and TLG's never released stock)

(That's all I know for know but, yes, I _am_ drilling my source about Tintin!!)

Cheers,

Ole

That's not actually the whole video. It's much longer and was included in one of the MP DVDs
