I have several green space parts but I only want to trade for other non-prod space parts. As you know any transparent element is of interest. I just got a bunch of brown space parts today!

The part I specifically am looking for right now is a wall panel that fits the same bottom dimensions as the Panel 10 x 10 x 12 Quarter Dome, This particular part is about 6 bricks tall. It was never released but it can be found in trans red in a prototype space base. (Search lego and prototype and you will surely find an image of it). I am actually hoping I find one in trans neon green. Who knows if such a part ever existed but I hope to find one someday. There have been of needles in haystacks that I have been able to find so who knows, maybe I will find it someday.

Generally speaking, I think there may be a large volume of these types of parts out there. The reason for this is that some people are stumbling across these parts in flee-markets or garage sales. As of now, I am trying to work out a trade for some very funky trans blue parts, but I am not sure if I want to part with my Star Wars Comic Con stuff!

It's also in dark grey in that dwarf's mine prototype set

And here's the trans-red one :

I haven't been able to find any

Purely speculation, but if LEGO were developing Python sets, perhaps it was as part of the Studios line? It was out around the same time this video was made, and the Spider-Man and Jurassic Park series both started out in Studios...

The BBC would like to apologize for the following announcement

I fart in your general direction Thanks for the link You rumbustious little pervert Talon Card

P.S I would like to make it clear that Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries all of the crossed out text is not meaning to offend anyone and are references to Monty Python!

Dear mpfirnhaber & whitswj

I'm sorry, but you've both been duped. Green/brown parts have NO place in the LEGO CS universe. Please send to me so I can dispose of them correctly

Yours truly,

Ole

I almost fell for it, but then I was like - no way! He just wants the parts for his own collection!

Might be the print and decoration dept or set design dept having a play around with machine capacity to see what's possible ....?

TLG have never printed over multiple parts, afaik. But given the size of the numbers the blue bricks might might have been printed for the larger scale models in LEGOland? Certainly looks very official

Is the sword the same soft, flexible plastic as the ones that came in sets? I wouldn't expect that plastic to look so clear/glassy — most softer transparent LEGO pieces I've seen (like certain Bionicle and Hero Factory weapons) tend to have a milkier look.

No, the sword is hard plastic like other transparent parts.

What would make you say that some may be prototypes? Is there a way to distinguish between a prototype part cast in red to test for defects versus a part molded in red for some other purpose even though it is still non-production?

Red parts. Some may be prototypes, it's hard to know for sure.

Exactly what I mean. I don't know of any way to distinguish between the two.

I suspect red is only used to try out a new mold or check a mold for faults. All the red parts you've shown are common production parts

I have many prototype parts, that is parts that never were released in any set. None of them are red (I actually only have one single red part among my collection and that's a red parka with a white fur edge so, not a "mold checker")

Cheers,

Ole

More space parts, all non-production colors. I still need the space gun in green and brown...

A bit odd thay the camera shooter was never released in blue back then when just about eveyro ther CS part came in blue. Nice loot you got there

Yes, your collection has many "true" prototypes parts that were never sold in sets in any colors at all. But we're talking about the other thing you mentioned - the making of red parts to try new molds and check for faults. These red parts are commonly referred to as "prototypes".

The question we are wondering about is - are my red parts actually mold tests, or are they just red parts that were made for model builders, or for sets that were never released?

I wonder where that idea about red parts even came from? Is it the truth, or just a fan theory? It doesn't explain other colors, like black and trans-clear ghost shrouds, or blue cats and pteranodons. There's a lot of weird colored stuff out there, and a lot of it happens to be red, so who knows...

Red is easier to check out visually (perhaps also under a microscope?). Don't think it's just a fan theory as I've heard it from people working with actual plastic molding production. Did'nt an actual TLG mold engineer chime in about this subject in one of the many "prototype parts" discussion here? I think he goes by the name "Front" .. something"

Since you probably do not know the actual history of your parts, a bunch of them could easily just have been made for mdelmakers .. or just chucked in basket for future release (happened a lot more often pre 2k I've been told)

Yes, there's a lot of ordinary parts out there in "off" colours but the majority are quite old parts. Which suits me perfectly

Two non-production colors. I've also seen black. Any others out there?

Whoa, those look awesome! Is that one on the left Flame Yellowish Orange/Bright Light Orange/"Keetorange"?

So much amazing stuff in this thread. I'm insanely envious of all of you who have these nifty treasures.

Well, my gf is pregnant and just accepted my proposal, so yeah, I am the luckiest man :classic:

Hey, congratulations! :thumbup::classic:
