trippybrowneyes Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 This is such a difficult decision!! I wouldn't consider these the "best" by any means, but for some reason Vacation Hideway and Sport Coupe were always my favorites. I think the little vacation cabin made me dream about going on vacation (who am I kidding - it still does!). The sport coupe, I don't know. I've just always loved the little car. Quote
splatman Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 but for some reason Vacation Hideway and Sport Coupe were always my favorites. I have both. And got them at the same time. Did you, Trippy? I also got Holiday Home at about the same time. Had the Yellow Roof thing going on here for a while. Regarding the question: I'm not sure there is even such a thing. TLG has put out so many Best Sets, that no one set stands out. My personal fave has to be this: My fave elements in this set are the cabinets (seen in the bottom center in the box) And my fave theme: And I second the Airport Shuttle. Really awesome when combined with M:Tron. Quote

I think I ordered both of them through shop-at-home, and I remember how excited I was to get Lego in the mail. I have never seen that Basic set before, but I want to build everything on the front of it! Now I know which set inspired Mestari's Red Mill with Tractor MOC: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=93167 Quote
rollermonkey Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 As a kid, probably Galaxy Explorer. I don't remember how many weeks of delivering papers it took me to save up for it, but it was quite a few. As an adult, I'm not as sure. I really love the way the UCS B-Wing looks on my dresser, though. Quote
cosmicpurr Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I love custom sets so my fav. custom: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/56095 my official one: 10128 Train Level Crossing (so lonely and nice) Quote
Xfing Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 It's really difficult to give the objectively best set ever. More so since most people will equate "best" to "I had the most fun and the fondest memories with it". Which you could very well have with the blocky, rudimentary Classic Space sets, which are light years behind current sets design-wise, but are still widely adored. But the truth is, Lego has been through a lot since those times. And I gotta say I quite like where they are now. I remember being a fan of the Aquazone series and overall everything from 1995-1998. These were the years when TLG went apeshit with introducing new specialized parts, which gave the sets a very distinct and memorable character. Yet this isn't to say they were well-designed. I like a lot what LEGO has done with 2013's 3 in 1 creator sets for example. Lots of parts, all of them small and multipurpose rather than, what do you call that?, <insert that tiresome argument> solutions. I'm sure that action sets from the 2000s and 2010 have developed similarly. I've seen some reviews of Chima sets and I gotta admit that they're head and shoulders above their 90s counterparts as far as design is concerned. But for some reason, with LEGO, design doesn't equate with "soul". It really boils down to how much fun you have with your LEGO and what stories you can tell using them. Quote
gundamz Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Medieval Market Village. My first big set and my favorite big set. A true classic. Though I kinda turned mine into a house for Superheroes. :) Edited April 11, 2014 by gundamz Quote
