JohnR33 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 hi everyone. I've had legos since I was a kid, but my very first Technic set is the 9398. It was just too cool when I saw it and when TRU had a sale recently (plus all the posts about it I saw on this site), I couldn't pass it up. Anyway, nothing too crazy about my build. I don't plan to mod it much... just wanted a place to dump my pics work in progress... Quote
Doc_Brown Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Hi, Welcome to EB. My first set out of my dark age was 9398. (8070 doesn't count). Have fun! Quote
JM1971 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Best set ever, well maybe ties with the 41999. Quote
Graydingo Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Fun set. I swapped out the gears for more torque in the Portal hubs. It does a nice job of crawling over various things. The servo motor is awesome. Quote
Jim Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Hi John, Welcome to EB!! Have fun building the 9398 and do post some more pictures Quote
Rockbrick Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 i enjoyed building this model very much - while building it thought of so many other models I could build with it - started using it and have not taken it apart yet in 8 months its still too much fun... Quote
JohnR33 Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 thanks for the welcome everyone! I completed the crawler. It took me 4 days spending a little time each day to build and was so fun to build! Here's a new pic. I was surprised to find that the cab is an almost perfect size for a gopro hero3 camera. The door only closes about 95% though so I might need to ziptie that or, if I had the parts, I would move the fake gear shifter by one spot. Quote
JM1971 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Hulk minifigs also look good in the driver seat lol, good to see someone enjoying a very cool set. Quote
JohnR33 Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Got some new tires for the crawler. Makes it even more top heavy because they're taller, but they look great and are definitely grippier than the stock tires. Quote
Appie Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Haha, the OP sounds like me. Only for me it was an awesome deal on this cool set back in september 2013. Since then I have spend quite a bit of money on Lego again and got my old Lego out of storage :) Here's my 9398 I modded the back with a bricklink order to something that suits the rest of the model without the use of stickers. I came across this look on the techlug.fr forum and knew right away that was how I wanted to fix the back. Edited April 21, 2014 by Appie Quote
Appie Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Thanks :) Been lurking a while, but figured I might as well make an account considering I wanted to share my Sheepo Mustang with you guys once the parts come in (in different colours). Then I saw this topic, so similar to me, I just had to reply. I still have some plans for my Crawler, but because I keep buying more sets those plans have been delayed quite a few times :D Quote
JohnR33 Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 9390 mini towtruck is now my 2nd ever Technic set... I hope my purchasing doesn't get out of hand having a little fun here with the tow truck and my crawler: "I think we're going to need a bigger tow truck..." "ahhhh I guess I'll just have to push!" I modded the back with a bricklink order to something that suits the rest of the model without the use of stickers. I came across this look on the techlug.fr forum and knew right away that was how I wanted to fix the back. looks good! I would make it all black if I could. And I'm not a fan of the stickers either Quote
JM1971 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Haha, those pics make the crawler look massive, where did you get the tyres from? they are cool. Quote
