joeshmoe554 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 "That bein' the case, how about someone shed some light on just what the hell is going on here, and if we're seriously going to be dragging everyone along with us." Jeaux hands the letters and schematics to Pretzel to help get him up to speed on the current situation "I think Wally has the most knowledge regarding our present predicament. Perhaps it would be best if he explained what he has been doing in these ruins and who this doctor is that he has been working with."
CMP Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Jeaux hands the letters and schematics to Pretzel to help get him up to speed on the current situation "I think Wally has the most knowledge regarding our present predicament. Perhaps it would be best if he explained what he has been doing in these ruins and who this doctor is that he has been working with." We unearthed the observation room today. Truly amazing. Wally doesn't believe we should disturb it, but all science carries risks. I don't believe he should present once I enact it. I don't know what the results may be, and it could be too dangerous for him. Nonetheless, everything is set up to put things into motion. I investigated the mechanism above. If I'm correct, it harnesses the power of the moon and focuses it into this beam, which is directed onto the lens below. The beam is strengthened by the strange mirrors I found set up there. It's diamond of a quality I've never seen before. Perfect for my experiment. I have set up additional mirrors that should redirect the beam into the modified AIUPIIUP (which is called the AIUPIIUP and nothing else, I am sure I did not give permission to relabel my invention for sale to the public) rather than into the smithy as the Moon Elves no doubt intended, which I have dubbed the Abyssal Forge because of its unconventional methods. Without those methods, this would have been impossible. The light will then 'read' the picture, and project is image back onto the mirror. The reflections will all rebound on eachother in unison with the light beam. The cycle complete, the AIUPIIUP will read the lightened reflections, and imprint it into the darkness mold in every direction and dimension. If my calculations are correct, this will produce a perfect three dimensional replica of the image. Once the beam has been projected onto the main lens on the upper right of the diagram, it will be focused directly downward, and bounce off the mirrors. The mirrors are all set on enormous pedestals. The perfect quality of the diamond mirrors has the beam of light bouncing at perfect 90 degree angles when it makes impact. I repositioned the mirrors (and have copied one spare, just in case) to the layout shown below. The sphere on the lower left, I am led to believe, unlocks and powers the Abyssal Forge, but my efforts to re-light them have been fruitless, so I will have to proceed with my AIUPIIUP experiment. The red X is where the beam of light will hit, and where I will set up the AIUPIIUP. As long as the beam of light is directed into the AIUPIIUP, the three dimensional object replication should be constant. Doc - I got some more gems for the experiment. I'm heading back to Zylstra and I'll bring them over as soon as I find a crate big enough. I think Shelby's getting tired of all the stuff I try and give her, though. I won't bother asking if you're sure it's going to work, I'm just wondering when we're going to be done. This place creeps me out. - Wally "Uh....well-" Posco grabbed Wally by the collar. "You're responsible for all this, kid? You put your family and friends all in danger to fulfill the curiosity of some insane scientist?" Eva grabbed the back of Wally's shirt and tugged him away from Posco with surprising strength, shooting daggers at the assassin. Wally nervous brushed her off. "It's - it's fine, I, I just...well, Doc was looking into...you know, moon elf stuff. See....the window you came in through? The Wolfgangers didn't dig it out, I did. But this....was years ago, before they were even there. I never did go inside, but when Doc started telling me about Nu Mercution, I connected the dots. I told him I might know of a way into the city. I didn't think the Baron would approve so I snuck him, me, and our equipment in there. He realized we would need more, so I figured I could trust Shelby to trade supplies with me while keeping quiet about it..." "Sorry, Mag." Maggie watched Wally asipll the beans quite disapprovingly. The young gnome rubbed his neck and continued. "...I wasn't there when Doc did the experiment. When I got back to the observation room...which those trapdoors in the dormitory and dining hall lead to, by the way....the AIUPIIUP was spitting out those shades like nobody's business. The Doc, he...they took him, down into the forge. Opened the door somehow and closed it behind them. The only way I know of is to try and redirect the beam of light into the mechanism on the diagram there. First we'd need to get to the AIUPIIUP and stop those shades from coming. Then we'd need to set up the extra mirror Em has, and get the beam to hit the sphere on the lower left."
JimBee Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Hybros rubbed his temple, and sighed. "Okay Wally. Who is the doctor? U'Reeka? And what was he trying to discover? The painting machine should still be down there in this mirror maze, yes?"
Palathadric Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 "Shelby, Vinum. and the rest of you. I'm glad to see that you're all well..." Oh, God! It's Watsap's wife... "Monsieur assassin, it appears as if your seclusion has not been as restful as you would've hoped. It certainly is a pleasure to meet with you again. The information you gave us last time was very helpful even though...well, never mind." The conversation turns to Wally's roll in this predicament. I grunt. "Beware, Wally! Seeking buried knowledge is never a good thing. I should know." I shudder thinking about my last quest. It still didn't feel right. Those imperials...they were right all along. I heal Em and replace my Counterstrike Gloves with my Ethereal Cloak and my Impervious Shield for my Mythril one. "You didn't discover any exits, did you?" I query.
Emjajoas Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Em nods in thanks. "Nothing of the sort, though we did discover passages leading further in."
CMP Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Hybros rubbed his temple, and sighed. "Okay Wally. Who is the doctor? U'Reeka? And what was he trying to discover? The painting machine should still be down there in this mirror maze, yes?" "Yeah, Doc U'Reeka. He was trying to figure out some way to replicate three dimensional objects from images. The initial experiment was just supposed to be an apple..." "Beware, Wally! Seeking buried knowledge is never a good thing. I should know." I shudder thinking about my last quest. It still didn't feel right. Those imperials...they were right all along. "We weren't trying to copy the elves' techniques, we just, you know, adapted them." "Not very well."
JimBee Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 "Well there is no point in waiting any longer. It is my understanding that we have to go down to this maze of mirrors and divert the path of the light from the painting device to the forge. I imagine we have to go down one of those trap doors... Wally, lead the way."
joeshmoe554 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 "So it was a mistake, and not malice behind the current threat, though that does not explain what possessed the gnomes in the village. In any case let's head down to the observatory and see what we can do to stop the machine from producing more shades. I would recommend any who feel uncomfortable in battle remain up top, as we will likely be encountering considerable resistance below." Jeaux looked towards Shelby and Vinum given their earlier choice to avoid combat.
JimBee Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 "Oh, I almost forgot. Here, take these, eheh." Hybros hands a Crescent Shield to each Jeaux and Pretzel.
Palathadric Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 "If anyone wants a shovel or a pickaxe, I picked up an extra set where we came from."
joeshmoe554 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 "So tell me monk, did you discover anything down this passageway that may be of importance?"
CMP Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Sorry for the slowness of the updates. Birthday stuff, plus the next sequence is a somewhat large one. You're probably two thirds of the way done now, so it won't be much longer. " I would recommend any who feel uncomfortable in battle remain up top, as we will likely be encountering considerable resistance below." Jeaux looked towards Shelby and Vinum given their earlier choice to avoid combat. "Yes, that sounds best..." "Shouldn't be a problem if we're hitting them where they live. But I still don't trust this little rat." He shot a sharp look at Wally.
Palathadric Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 "So tell me monk, did you discover anything down this passageway that may be of importance?" I shake my head, "No, I saw a surprising amount of books that were absolutely of no use." I frown. Suddenly, I realize who is talking to me. Hmm, perhaps there are clues in there that he doesn't want me to know about. Another scan of the room later, perhaps? "Shouldn't be a problem if we're hitting them where they live. But I still don't trust this little rat." He shot a sharp look at Wally. "Well, as the saying goes, better to keep the little devil where you can see him than where you can't. In any case, Wally has proven his worth to me in combating these shadows."
JimBee Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 "For those of you who do not know, Em and I encountered another Shade along with several... animated Moon Elf corpses. I still do not know how they fit into all of this, but I suppose in due time..." "I would recommend any who feel uncomfortable in battle remain up top, as we will likely be encountering considerable resistance below." Jeaux looked towards Shelby and Vinum given their earlier choice to avoid combat. "Fine... although, Posco, you have proven yourself proficient in combat... will you not help us? The safety of Zylstra is as much on your hands as ours... And Melvin, what are you doing down here? I thought you had a ship to attend to. Your skills as a Minstrel would also be useful, heheh."
Palathadric Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) "I found Rodney and Rollo in their darker form tearing down bookshelves in the room with a shade monitoring the progress. We knocked out Rollo and Rodney, who seem to be okay now and I exchanged blows with the shade. He then dissolved into nothingness. He didn't leave a husk behind like the last one though." "Melvin! I'll be. What are you doing doing here? I have half a mind to believe that you followed us after we defeated those fake bonapartes," I chuckle at the memory. "That was quite hilarious! Anyway, how are the captain and that Mage, what was his name? Jewels or something? Strange name. I hope that tongueless orc is not causing problems aboard. I can't say I didn't warn the captain about that creature. If Zasies is every interesting in selling her mace. I'm still up to buying it." Edited June 8, 2014 by Palathadric

"City's not safe 'til they're all dead," stated Posco bluntly. "Aye, good to see you again Hybros. Actually, Vinum here's my cousin - after the city opened up I thought I'd pay him a visit. Bad timin', eh? If you really think I'll be of help, I'll come along..." "Melvin! I'll be. What are you doing doing here? Bonies haven't as been as bad since the captain got acquainted with that Attina. Well, they killed stuff together, anyway, hah. Jules' been...fine, Knifey's been good, too. He's a nice chap, just not a talker.' "Heroica's range of companions stretches farther than I thought. But now is not the time. We must stop these shades. Everyone second we spend here is another potentially being created." The heroes prepared, their party heads down the nearest trapdoor. As usual, the darkness nearly consumes them as they walk. They can hardly hear eachother's breath or footsteps while doing so. Those in the front bump into a set of massive iron doors. Above them, the beam of light from the planetarium has appeared for the first time since their road split. A crystal above the doorframe glows vibrantly, the shaft of what now seems to be moonlight passing within. Melvin shields his eyes slightly as Wally grips Erveka's hand. Posco's scowl deepens, blades at the ready. Soryx remains silent as ever. Will the party open the door? Palathadric Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 "So, if I understand correctly, this is our only option, right?" I place my hand on the door. "Any objections?" Can Melvin actually help us out at all without any songs in his inventory, apart from attacking with his WP:1 Instrument?
CMP Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 Can Melvin actually help us out at all without any songs in his inventory, apart from attacking with his WP:1 Instrument? He can sing all the basic Minstrel songs.
Palathadric Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I dig through my cart. "Here, one of you can use these. I just got them back from a friend of mine, but I never really used it much." I pull out the Magic Viper Skin. Eva scoops it up, and then notices an Amethyst rolled up inside. However, I am busy handing my new Shovel and Pickaxe to Wally. I hand a Phoenix Incense to Em and another to Melvin. "Guard these with your life. They could pull us out of more than a tight spot."

Light bounces off at perfect angles. Probably heavy as hell, but useful considering what we're trying to do."
Emjajoas Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 "Yeah, damn thing is pretty heavy," Em mutters, shifting its weight. "Well, if it won't break, I'm ready to move on."
joeshmoe554 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 OOC: Looks like everyone is ready to move on. Jeaux pushes open the door and steps through into the next room
Palathadric Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I gaze in some wonder at the gold chain I see in my cart. Who put this in here? I wonder, before seeing a note from the baron. Heh! Must have slipped it in while we were talking. I promptly equip it in place of the Ethereal Cloak.
