The round goes well at first - Posco immediately takes down a gnome, while opening a window for the others to be piled on. But the shade blackens the narrow corridor, and everyone is left stumbling in darkness. Pretzel and Hybros sprint for the AIUPIIUP, but one of the Moon Elves catches up to them as another is spawned. The others seem to be making for the rest of the party, and reinforcements arrive quickly.

I look back at the mess behind us. We're through. Somehow, we're through.

"All we've got to do is destroy that --

Wait a moment. Hold on! Why must you always rush about like that?"

"All we've got to do is destroy that --

Wait a moment. Hold on! Why must you always rush about like that?"

Hybros was already continuing onto Junction Q. "Hurry up, Monk. Take care of this Moon Elf." He turned his attention to the AIUPIIUP. "So much for taking the effort to deliver this thing..." he grumbled, and brought the hilt of his sword down onto it, destroying it.

Meanwhile, the Junction A party faces difficulty. Melvin sings a peaceful Nanny's Lullaby to soothe the situation.

OOC: All the enemies that Posco hit last round should be Poisoned by 250, right?

OOC: All the enemies that Posco hit last round should be Poisoned by 250, right?

No. Grim Reaper doesn't confer weapon effects.

I am able to keep up with Hybros a bit better this time as we rush to Junction Q.

"Finish that machine Hybros...hey, it kind of reminds me of an item I used on one of my last quests. The Town Watch were using it. I hope it doesn't spawn shades as well. The user was a real creep...kind of like you...just a little worse. Less black of heart and appearance, but more demonic, if you understand what I mean. Take this, devil!"

Thankfully, for Hybros, I don't aim my Dual Staff at him, but at the Shadowed Moon Elf Corpse E from the Front Row.

"Posco, see if you can't take care of a few of these imitations." Jeaux pulls two remedies out of his briefcase, using them on Posco and Soryx. Eva, seeing that Melvin was injured, tries to heal his wounds.

Minstrels aren't included in the battle order while singing. I also was unsure if Grim Reaper wakes up enemies or not, but since it doesn't deal weapon effects, I don't think it's an outright attack, so I don't think it does. I accidentally listed Moon Elf D as E also. So there's still one more that you just passed, sorry.

Jeaux hurries to remedy his heavy hitters as Melvin kazoos the enemies to sleep. Soryx and Posco deal some hits, while Wally and Em stick back and Eva heals Melvin. Posco takes a swipe from the shade. The other two seem to divert from them, instead headed for Hybros and Pretzel.

Pretzel whirls his staff over his head and blows apart the moon elf as Hybros raises his sword. With one sweep, the AIUPIIUP smashes against the enchanted mirror behind it, crumpling to the floor in a broken heap. He raises his sword again to finish the job, only for the lens to explode, bits of glass flying outward from the device. The broken pieces warp and shift, as the inky black substance the shades are comprised of pours forth, swirling around the machine and giving it new form as a shadowy abomination of machine and darkness.

14407334926_b581e0f9cc_t.jpg

"Why have you done this?" it questions in the common tongue, in a twisted, metallic-sounding voice laced with the chilling tone of the shades. "Why have you sought to destroy us? Our creators? Our kin? You reclaim what is yours, yet you persist to destroy my unborn spawn and annihilate my species?"

What once appeared to be the lens of the AIUPIIUP, now glassless and comprising the 'head' of this monster, spewed more of the impossibly black substance onto the ground. It rapidly took form as a shade - but a weaker one. Imperfect. Damaged. It gazed down at itself in horror. The Abomination turned from it to Hybros and Pretzel.

14407334926_b581e0f9cc_t.jpg

"Look on what you have wrought, monsters. If death is indeed your language, let us speak it to you that you may taste our sorrow."

I cackle demonically as I knock down corpse in a single strike. The sound is almost frightening.

"Ack demon, what have you done to me?"

Hybros then breaks the machine and everything goes all funny like. I stumble backwards, slightly terrified at first as the machine comes to life, and covering my eyes for a brief moment.

"Look on what you have wrought, monsters. If death is indeed your language, let us speak it to you that you may taste our sorrow."

I laugh hollowly.

"Spawner of demons, you ask about your kin and why we destroyed the shadows within you? What interest would we, creatures of light (at least some of us), have in letting your offspring run free in the world? I revel in your destruction and I wish to see as many of your species destroyed as I may. You call me a monster, but how so, when the beings that I destroy have no life in them anyway? All the life within you is death. Death is not my usual tongue, but perhaps amongst your species it will be. May the shadows learn to fear the name of Pretzel, the ambassador of the light."

I raise my Heavy Flail to strike down on the abomination, but then cast a glance over my shoulder.

"What do you say? Should we stick around and destroy it now or go back and help the others?" I whisper to Hybros, forgetting in the darkness that my companion is less than human.

OOC: I think you calculated Posco's SP wrong, he does have 10, right? And, I'm not positive on this, but I think Minstrel's songs last the entire round - so even if enemies get hit by an attack they will still sleep that round... weird and OP, I know, but that's how Sandy has run it in 93. Also, would Guardian Angel protect us from the Crippled Shade's special? And is it's level supposed to be 25 instead of 50? Just wondering because that would fit in with the halved health and special theme.

Hybros groans as the AUIPIIUP springs to life with the black substance. The device proved to be much more trouble than it was ever worth, he thought to himself. "Your species? What are you? And why have you not tried to speak to us before? You must understand that we can not allow you to capture the people of Zylstra, Eubric, or even Mercution. What is your purpose? You have let all the citizens of Zylstra live, but why did you need them in the first place?"

The imp levels his sword at the creature, letting it speak before making a decision.

I laugh hollowly.

Hybros rolled his eyes at the Paladin's monologue. "We are here to save Zylstra, not banish demons. Be cautious, Monk, for you are still chained to the one you call demon." His eyes narrowed. He wondered if Pretzel would have the audacity to turn on him, and a sort of awareness of the monk became present in the imp's mind. Though he was sure he could strike down his would-be ally with one swing of his sword, a heavily armored body would not be very convenient to be chained to. And there was the distraction of the battle...

He shook his head. He needed to focus. He glanced up at the ceiling mirrors, watching the rest of the party struggle against their enemies. Two more Shades split off from the main group to head towards Hybros and Pretzel. They needed to act fast. "We stay here." he told the monk. "If this machine continues to threaten us, I should be able to assassinate it easily."

The imp levels his sword at the creature, letting it speak before making a decision.

"Are you serious? This the way you fight your battles? You fool! For either you are that, or you are not seeking to aid the gnomes at all. Do not give the enemy, especially as corrupt an enemy as this, a chance to speak, for they will seek to corrupt your heart. Not that yours can get much blacker than it already is. Strike hard and strike fast. If the enemy is worth saving, God will protect his own. This machine is spawning demons that are plaguing Zylstra. If it continues at this rate, these demons could take over Eubric, then Uland and beyond. What good can come from keeping them alive? I dare you to find one good thing. But goodness may be too far above you, I suppose."

"We are here to save Zylstra, not banish demons. Be cautious, Monk, for you are still chained to the one you call demon."

"Banish demons," I laugh. "Of course we are not here to banish demons. We are here to slay them for eternity. How do you intend to save Zylstra without destroying these demons, pray tell? Do you wish to reason with them?" I laugh again. "Who can reason with a demon without partaking of his evil?"

"We stay here." he told the monk. "If this machine continues to threaten us, I should be able to assassinate it easily."

I sneer.

"Please! Take your time. The more time we give these demonic creations the better. Perhaps we can bargain with them so they just destroy the souls and not the bodies of the citizens of Zylstra," I reply sarcastly. "Let me show you how to win this battle, demon!"

I lurch forward and strike down at Shadowed Moon Elf Corpse D with my Dual Staff (Doubly), before leaping Back and attempting to Seal the AIUPIIUP Abomination.

Think about how you would normally treat the beggar at your doorstep. Think about that, Monk. For we do not all have a place in this world unless we make it so."

I'll edit Posco's defense. I'm not running the song like that. Guardian Angel would protect you. Its level is supposed to 50. And I forgot to make the Abomination immune to instant kill, sorry.

"If you will not explain your purpose, then there is no other option. I can not let you go on, for you are the one that spreads sorrow. Death is my language, and you will learn it quickly."

Hybros attacks the AUIPPIUP Abomination from the back row with Justice. If he is successful in blinding it, he then attacks with his Twin Kunai from the front row (double). If not, he repeats.

Jeaux could hear shouting from the distant corner of the room. Whatever the other members of their group had encountered, it seemed far more talkative than the undead before him. Jeaux was still recovering from the shade's attack and watched as Turdwing took it upon himself to engage the enemy. He began to dart around the heads of the undead soldiers, most likely attracted to the smell of their decaying flesh. Eva turned her attention to Posco after the rather brutal beating he took from the shade previously.

Jeaux uses turdwing on Moon Elf A and C while Eva heals Posco

"Give it a chance to speak!" I am practically livid now. "Give it a chance to speak, you say? In case you didn't realize, this is a machine standing before us. The only reason it can speak at all, is because a foul spirit possesses it, much like these hoards of undead. They swarm to do the bidding of he who summons them. Mindless beings of shadow, formed in the darkness to serve the darkness. How can you even call it a race? It is no race. Can I call my staff, here, a race? Absurd! What about my cart? Just because I can set it to move and roll about, doesn't make it a race."

I fail to see your point. You words indicate that you think I was banished from this world. Not so. Not at all. I..."

Memories...painful memories.

I grow silent, at length I speak again, though my speech is slower and more laboured.

"I am making a difference in this world and nothing you can do or say will stand in the way of my fulfilling my destiny. I would advise that you do not try to stop me, for I have been summoned to do the work of the one who sent me. Even if the world refuses to acknowledge my help and the light I bring them, one day they will look back and be grateful that I spoke to them when I did; that I refused to give up though the odds appeared against me; and that I clung tenaciously to the truth though all else believed it to be a lie. Then...then they will know. Get behind me now, I shut up the mouth of this foul abomination!"

So saying, I pull my Scroll of Sealing out of a hidden fold in my cloak.

"I did not say anything about banishing, and I do not know where your people are. Or who sent you..." Hybros sighed. "We will speak more of this later if you wish, Monk..." He tugged at the Soul Link Chain and prepared his attack.

Soryx silently attacks Moon Elf A from the Front Row as is his style with Vanquisher.

Wally looks on, but his neat goggles prevent anyone from really seeing what his eyes are communicating.

He takes a swing forward at Gnome A.

"Who are we to determine what is worthy of life and what is not? At least without some sort of reason? Death is my language, but I do not use it as an end, rather, as a means. As should you. I now see that this creature is not willing to talk, or reveal its purpose, so for the greater good it must die. But what of when my kind, or your kind, enter this world again? Would you want the rest of the world to eradicate us without a second thought? I would at least hope for some diplomacy, else all of the efforts to return would have had no purpose."

I roll my eyes like this: :hmpf: "I do not understand what is so difficult for you to comprehend. This is a mere machine. It has no life. We are not bringing death to it, because it never had life to begin with. Can you not understand this? Bah!"

"I did not say anything about banishing, and I do not know where your people are. Or who sent you..." Hybros sighed. "We will speak more of this later if you wish, Monk..." He tugged at the Soul Link Chain and prepared his attack.

I grunt, not exactly looking forward to speaking with the stubborn small one anymore.

"Some people just refuse to be convinced of the truth," I mutter under my breath.
