and there really is not enough new timber truck

One of my dream sets would be a completely manual logging truck with a pneumatic crane and extendable self-steering trailer, in the Mack Anthem scale:

Oh yes please!

Some years ago I started a MOC in Arocs scale but never finished it. Hmm could be a nice idea for a new MOC... :-)

I have a feeling that seeing the ever-growing number of Bugatti Bolide scaled cars, we can expect another car transporter in the upcoming 2-3 years.

Or perhaps an advanced parking garage? Where cars are stored in or retrieved from a designated slot using some fancy mechanics...

I don't see things like buildings (or lets say all stationary things) be done in Technic in the next years. It's just to uninteresting and also non-playable with you don't have other models.

I would love something like the unimog, where you can build and add different attachments. It would be great if TLG sold some of these.

Me too, but in the meantime, I got you covered.

With the new sturdy 19x3 frames and the tires from the upcoming 42160 Audi, I'd hope for a new iteration for a mobile crane. Maybe with a big and powerful pneumatic cylinder :D

Perhaps dragline excavator could be another use of new molds from 42146. Or new version of bucket wheel excavator.

Since the last two flagship sets were tracked (42131 and 42146), I bet the next one won't be tracked and won't be a crane. I think it may be front loader. Something from John Deere line up is also possible (licensed + has wheels + not yellow :D )

Dito. But my guess (or wish?) is a Claas Torion :-P

I'd rather have a proper backhoe loader, instead. Yellow, yellow, but still. Either Volvo (as in every even numbered year there is one) or better, a JCB

I don't believe TLG limit themselves to patterns, and likely are more like "hey, this sounds cool and we haven't done anything like that in a while".

This is not how business works, believe me, is its not based on ''sounds cool, let's roll!''. I am sure they do analysis what would sell well before investing into new product. At the end of the day TLG has to sell stuff and they are experts at that since it is multi billion company. More diverse line up = more people are interested = more sales. I think if 42146 will sell bad, we won't see any other big boy with multiple new parts anytime soon. On the other hand, I bet that Technic cars are the best sellers considering the amount of new releases we get every year :)

I know that, I just wasn't clear: what I meant was that I doubt they have a schedule like "we have to release a crane every X years, and something with wheels every Y years, so this year we have to release a crane with wheels". We fans (and humans in general) love to find patterns into which to fit stuff, but in this case I don't think there's any.

I think that for the upcoming supercar, TLG needs to introuduce one more clutch gear, probably 12 tooth one in order to have 4 different sizes and gear ratios. This way you can easily have two simple gearboxes at different gearing ratios linked together and actuated by the 4 new drums and selector pieces. And when I say simple gearboxes, I mean really simple, each gearbox would use only 2 axles with 8 gears, with only a pair engaged at any time. This would reduce the complexity and friction of the current systled geraboxes by a huge margain and even free up space to be used in smaller scale.

Or how about a few more gears instead . I think I'd prefer a more realistic 4, 5 or 6 speed over a less realistic 8 speed gearbox. I also showed in my original concept that a tooth count difference of 2 was enough to see a noticeable increase in speed with this kind of gearbox. It would be great to see a motorisation option (with wheels jacked up off the floor) to really demonstrate the gears working, and it is a lot of fun and satisfying to play with going brrrRRRR click brrrRRRR!!!....

In other videos I showed it working well, changing gears under load so we might also get some RC cars with remote switching gearboxes also.

I would think TLGs version should perform at least as well as my FDM 3D printed parts. And yes I am still taking partial credit for the new parts, you're welcome

The 8448 comes with two extra yellow bent beams precisely for that purpose. I miss those tiny details and the motorisation instructions...

This would be so cool, considering the supercars in their current form are just shelf queens, the gearbox and other internal stuff go entirely unused as there's no easy way to actually show them working.

Aren't 12 tooth gear to small to use the same clutch gear system, leading to the need of a whole new clutch gear system to coordinate with a 12 tooth clutch gear ?

Not if you combine a 12 tooth gear with an extension ring.

You could have a 12 tooth if you have it with an inbuilt extension ring, but that would make it an extra stud longer. Personally I'd prefer 18 and 22 tooth gears, but that would also require 10 and 14 tooth regular gears to mesh with.

Edit: It's also theoretically possible to go bigger than 24t, up to 28t if you move the lay shaft (the shaft with the regular gears on it) over one module,  and make one of the two axles the shift fork slides on (the one directly above the dog clutch gears) unsupported at the end, which might be okay as it would be supported at other places.

Indeed but it fall into the new driving ring system category, I May be wrong but I have the feeling this need is something that refrain LEGO to do it because the whole batch is not matching, and I think LEGO is not only about new pieces but they care about coherence (or harmony ?) of the system

Having more gearbox stuff would be nice, though the new realistic direction still means enormous gearboxes. So for smaller scale models (say 1:10) you still would be using the "old" unrealistic complicated system.
