What model of monster jam will be next year
Is it a bit short to only produce two in a year? It will take many years to complete
Try a few combinations

1.ALIEN INVASION+KRAKEN
2.LUCAS STABILIZER+EARTH SHAKER
3.IRON MAN+THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
4.ZOMBIE+PIRATE’S CURSE
5.JURASSIC ATTACK+VELOCIRAPTOR

It would be great if we could have two more every year

Would be great. Also, wouldn't mind seeing this lot either:

  • Bakugan Dragonoid/Sparkle Smash
  • Monster Mutt/Raminator
  • Soldier Fortune/Mohawk Warrior
  • Blue Thunder/Brutus

Yes, these are also very interesting
But producing only two per year is too slow. It will take another ten years to produce them all
I hope LEGO can add one or two more every year
If it is interrupted like this, it will also greatly discount the value of the collection:blush:

2027 will be the 50th anniversary of technic
I don't know what surprises will come
The 40th anniversary didn't go well

I hope they saw other themes' anniversary stuff, and release some throwback sets

Considering the LEGO product development cycle, I'd say the 2027 sets should begin life this year, so, hopefully, as we speak the Technic team is deciding what to make and the basic concepts of how. Personally I'm not sure about which Technic set would be the most iconic to recreate with modern elements and techniques; perhaps one from 1977?

Well, I think the 8860 combined model was neat, but my gut tells me it started as a model Milan Reindl did on his initiative and private time, and then he showed it to his higher-ups, who said "sure, why not, we can make it an official model or whatever". Likely, if it were up to TLG alone, all we'd get would be the printed 3L beam in that year's sets, but, to be honest, 40 years isn't as "milestone" as 50 years, and I don't recall getting anything for the 10th, 20th or 30th anniversaries anyway, so I'm not disappointed with what we got for the 40th.

Yes, we didn't get anything on the 10th, 20th, or 30th anniversary
The 40th anniversary is also a brief celebration
Perhaps the 50th anniversary will bring surprises
I just hope there won't be too many small sports cars in the future

1: 8's cars are all sports cars
I'm a bit tired of aesthetics
How about building a 1:8 Rolls Royce Phantom:laugh:

Whatever we get for the 50th anniversary, I really hope it's not another damn licensed car. For me, the most memorable sets I would want redone would be 42099, 9398, and 42069. I'm too young to remember the older Technic sets though, I'm sure there were some real treasures back then too.

Or if they were catering specifically to me, they could do a rerun of 42077, with lots of different color variations.

If we do get a modernised set to celebrate a 50th anniversary, I bet it's one that's also 50 years old, which means one of these.

Of those, depending of the budget they're going for, I believe 853 is the most iconic, or, in case of a smaller scale, 851.

Sure 853 is the most iconic from that lineup, but any modern version of a bare chassis would feel like a step back compared to the 1:8 supercars, so I don't see that happening.

I'd be more happy with a good revision of the motor set 870 with proper remote control :)

I think basically any big thing with sufficient details / innovation would do. I guess people would be more keen on the technical innovation than the actual surface material.

Good point. In that case, how about a large red old-style tractor with modern Technic mechanisms (especially transmission), and parts+instructions for N-in-1 attachments? Or ditch the gearbox, reduce the scale (and therefore price) and make a mechanically similar (but, again, red and old-style) to 8284 but with more parts to build attachments with.

You call it a step back, I would call it a step forward without panelling up everything with those ugly panels of current time. With the right model of course, one that has something to more to show than just a paneled outside. The Da Vinci model is a good example. Something like that in a larger scale would be fitting for a 50th anniversary model, with a good mix of bare Technics with appealing looks without al those ugly panels.

For me the new Technic with liftarms is just to make the old Technic more rigid and compact, a 50th Anniversary model should showcase that.

I think they should do a giant off road truck with a gearbox and adjustable suspension. Also doff locking, working engine, steering wheel, doors, hood and an auxiliary motor for things like hook lifting, bed dumping, a winch or a fifth wheel. (Totally not something I plan to build but probably won't go well so I'm asking TLG to build it instead)

I get what you mean, and I'd also be okay with just some really innovative mechanics, but I guess the marketing department would disagree with us :) I doubt they'd make something for 50th anniversary that's not also large and cool looking (maybe even licensed) at the same time and hence would sell well.

Maybe a long awaited JCB backhoe would be a great fit for the 50th..

👆 This. If TLG has the possibility to make a set that caters both to those that just want an homage and those that just want something cool, they'll go for it. That's why, as much as I'd like a new Car Chassis (which only goes for the homage), I don't think we'll get one.

If honorering 50 years of Technic, I would expect a B model and even a C model with the set. Remember the days when TLG would issue an inspirational book with alternative builds of sets. No such thing these days. One (IP) model only, mostly with lots of stickers now. I've had the 358 as a very special gift when I was eleven and scrambled to get other Technic sets after that (Tractor, Forklift). I'm from a poor family and although we were never hungry, more Technic sets was only something I could dream about. I've spend many hours of building with the bricks of these sets after that, even before the term MOC was known, using elastic bands to create some kind of suspension. Even used my old bricks to create with my kids (see photo). The sets with B-models and books with alternative builds were inspirational. It's that inspiration I would like to see back in a Technic 50th anniversary build.

We already have remote-controlled excavator(42100), bulldozer(42131), crawler crane(42146) and dump truck(42114)

These themes will not appear in the short term
Lack of front-end loaders, mobile cranes, backhoe loaders, and tractors in C+ version
Replace 42030, 8455, 42009, and 42054 with this

Yellow Front End Loader by Volvo
Yellow Mobile Crane by Grove
Yellow Backhoe by JCB
Tractor by Claas or John Deere
Crane Truck by Scania or Mercedes-Benz

The 50th anniversary may still use a car chassis, last time it was 8860, this time it's 853

Robots are rarely seen in technic, creating a road roller is a challenge,Just like a concrete mixer truck

I haven't really been excited by the call backs to older sets in other themes. I would much rather get a proper retro set, meaning it is the exact same set with the same original packaging and all that. Apart from the barcode and a few parts mould updates, it should be indistinguishable from the original. If they are going the retro route, I don't want retro marketing, I want proper retro sets.

If we're talking about a new set for Technic, I think a mostly studfull universal set with a new ungeared motor (like the 9v 5x4 motor) and simple battery box would really hit the spot. There would be no panels and a lot of gears and belt drives, a mechanical playground of fun! The majority of studded Technic parts are still in production so it wouldn't be too difficult, and being studfull has a lot of advantages. It's easier to build more generic b, c and d models when you don't have to care so much about the looks, it's easier for the consumer to have fun building their own mechanical creations and it would act as a bridge between regular Lego and Technic. There could even be a second pneumatic focused universal set also.

As for the flagship Technic set, I would hope that they get back on form before 2027, but I'd like the sort of set that says "this one's for you!". It's not marketing that makes it for the adults that have been buying sets for many of those 50 years, because marketing can't do that. It's the fact that it's "true" Technic, and a true flagship at that, something that feels truly special like now the designers are just showing off!

A proper 30-function JCB Backhoe would be lovely, a worthy development of 8862 and 8455.  Since the LEGO Ideas parts limit is now 5000 pieces, I hope Technic could reach that with a functional non-car flagship set.

Avoid Control+ nonsense and do it properly with pneumatics, including 3-function loader, 6-function backhoe, multiple compressors and servo steering.  This should suffice, if I had another 500 hours to finish it:

zjcb_3cx_compact_mbellis_wip01.jpg

The loader and backhoe controls are laid out like the joysticks of the real JCB 3CX-Compact, so it would be possible for the user to drive them like the real thing.

I took another 40 hours in 2023 to improve the servos for the steering as they need a good range of variable movement to do the proportions.  Those need to be implemented in the next build.

Drive works well enough from a single L-motor, with dual compressors from two right-angle motors taken from 51515, built as the "engine".

I expect the 2-switch battery unit would be best for the compressors but a 2-port City hub could work with the train handset to do just the drive and steering remotely, leaving the digging functions as hands-on.
TLG has not yet exploited the train handset's capability to rotate the dials, where it would be easy to set them up for drive and steering of an RC vehicle.

And, best of all, the LEGO company must now have a deal with JCB, since one of the pull-back vehicles in January's range has their name on it.

Why big JCB when small JCB would suffice?

On one hand, you're absolutely right. On the other hand, if every Technic set would be sized according to their functionality (i.e. what is the smallest size of a vehicle that has all the necessary functions) nearly every set would be 500 pcs at most and any huge set would be a rarity (e.g. 1 in every 3-4 years).

For me, it would kill a bit of excitement about the theme. I agree that most of the huge sets (cars) don't have much novelty in them, but I must admit I enjoy building a 1:8 scale replica of a hypercar better than a 1:16 scaled one.

I like that idea, a set with a B model would indeed have a retro vibe (unfortunately on a sense). It could even be something licensed and related. For example, they could come out with a new portal hub that fits deeper rims and has better geometry than the old one, and they could make a Unimog with it with all kinds of implements, and a B model that's a trial Unimog for example. Maybe the Unimog is not the best example because there was already such a set (though that itself could be nostalgic), but you get the idea.

Also, I like the idea of a set made of studful technic beams / parts, but something that never existed before.

Another interesting concept could be a set that is studless technic on the inside with cool functions, but studful exterior with a really nice finish. I know it would be heavy and expensive, but just one set. Though I guess after that people would always expect models with nicer finish than all the holes on technic panels..

@gyenesvi motorized Unimog with realistic offroad (like Audi) tread pattern in some 95-100mm size (including your other suggestions) could be very nice...please don't tell @Thirdwigg anything about Unimogs
