I mean I don’t think there’s any reason to think it’s likely that we’ll get a mobile crane in 2023. It seems really arbitrary.

There is if we consider the most recent two flagship mobile cranes. The 1st one was released in 2013 and the second one 2018. If the 5-year interval indicates any pattern then the next one will be in 2023.

Two data points don’t make a pattern my dude

A crawler crane would be great, there can be larger tracks and stronger booms with the new parts available

I think a crawler crane with some complex cable rigging would be nice

I would love to see an heavy duty European truck, 8x4, two front axles steering, second axle raising, low loader behind it, maybe licensed with Volvo or Mercedes (or another brand) with 49.5 wheels and a price of around €200, which means a piece count of around 2500. As there are so many MOCs out there that answer this description I think the sales would be great.

I have one for you:

Plus, who is to say TLG adhere to any pattern at all? It has the disadvantage of limiting what they want to produce, and I don't see any advantage in it.

Since TLG seem to have embraced remote-controlled gearboxes (see 42114 and 42131), it'd be nice to see them on smaller, less-pricey sets. I'd like to see a 42008-style tow truck with all the functions driven by a mere handful (three, I guess) motors and a deliciously complex gearbox.

True, but is that a pattern or a coincidence?

Given that 2022 seems to have another Volvo (30433 Volvo Wheel Loader), there are 5 data points now (2014 Volvo, 2016 Volvo, 2018 Volvo, 2020 Volvo, 2022 Volvo). Are 5 points enough for a pattern

I'd say so. Unfortunately, if the polybag is indeed 2022's Volvo set, the proposed metric would mean we'd have to wait until 2024 for the next set. :hmpf_bad:

There's no such things as a coincidence in this world,  we just don't know yet how to explain it 😉🙂

That's the best explanation. There is another word(s) for something that should not be explained as it is - conspiracy theory

There is a pattern; VAG (super/hyper) cars every 2 years, Porsche in 2016, 2019 and coming in 2023 (just writing about technic lineup)...

I dont know if anyone talked about, a Golf Technic Buggy seems an overdue from me, specially in the 10-40 pound price category. I think Technic golf buggy only exists in the MOC form, not any official set.  Also, a mostly white artic expedition vehicle could be a nice medium to big Technic vehicle set in the future (which most probably could be ruined by awkward C+ app :pir_laugh2: )

Arctic action was of course done already 35 years ago. Apparently it was not a great success.

This thing is very likely. I think it's gonna be a RC 42082 with 6 axles and some new fancy stuff.

I would like to see at least 1 flagman set without PU. I'm just tired to pay for electronic components that I don't need, and I'm also not a fan of Technic to transform into an RC them.

The day is gone forever... :cry_sad:

I don't expect the formula 1 car with 1431 pieces for 179€ to have any kind of electronics (and any functions apart from the obvious ones).

For the electric components: What about the dumb battery box? The 42128 showed that pneumatic's not dead, so maybe something big with motor driven pneumatics? :-)

Yeah, the days of the non-motorized flagship sets are gone. Depending on which sets you think as flagships, it's been at least 9 years since the last non-motorized flagship, maybe more.

Personally, I find the motorized sets interesting, but I can see the problem of costly electronics and if you're someone who likes to buy sets, at some point you're going to have much more electronics than you can make use of. In the PF era you'd amass dozens of useless battery boxes, but those are a relatively cheap component, PU hubs are another story, so it would be nice to see resurgence of sets which are sold without any electronics but are designed in such a way that motorization can be added easily.

I think the UCS supercars could be seen as non motorised flagships but not really flagships of sorts. Perhaps if they focused more on making them better mechanically rather than mostly just display models then they would do better at scratching that non motorised flagship itch.

The last non-motorized flagship was 8285 in 2006, though its B-model could be motorized. So, if we're talking about a complete lack of motors, the last non-motorized flagship was 8436 in 2004. That's seventeen years. Quite a gap. :oh:
