Posted April 10, 201410 yr I was just wondering this. Which part in LEGO do I use the most of? There are all the common bricks, I guess the one most people think of is the 2X4 or 2X2 brick and whilst I have a fair few of them, I would not say they were something I used the most. I am pretty sure that title would have to go to the black 1X2 Jumper modified plate. For me most of my building revolves around trains and rolling stock. I build them in a 7 stud wide chasis for the most part, although some spill over to 8, even then the main construct is usually 7 studs wide. As such the jumper plates are almost certainly the elements I use most and the black ones are probably the most common, although I also use a lot of the various greys, blue, red and green ones. They are always the bit i seem to be running short of the most and one of the first things I look for when placing a Bricklink order. So what are the most used LEGO elements that others on the forum use and if possible what do you think is the reason behind this choice?
April 10, 201410 yr Very interresting topic. I am very curious to hear the feedbacks that will come. I do not use the 2x2 brick that much. The element I use the most is either the 1x2 brick or the 1x4 brick. The element I use the most proportionnaly to my collection is probably the 1x1 brick with a stud on the side. In terms of color, the feedback will probably vary a lot according to theme of interrest of the respondant. Personnaly, I use a lot grey and tan.
April 10, 201410 yr Surprisingly the piece I never seem to have enough of is a 1x1 light bley plate. And sometimes the same in tan. And then a 1x2 light bley plate. They seem to fill gaps in a lot of things and I always run out. This is just based on mocs I've done over the last year or so. Cheese slopes tend to get used quite a bit too. My mini Hogwarts will be using several hundred of the sand green cheese slope. I think I ordered 700 recently.
April 11, 201410 yr I build a lot of Classic Space, Castle, and Town- parts I like to have a lot of on hand include basic 1x2 and 1x4 bricks in primary colors and grey. Plates of all sizes are handy, as well as doors and windows. I am always on the prowl for trans-yellow elements, and I can never have enough castle wall panels. As far as newer elements go, I use the 2x4 medium stone tile for all my city sidewalks, and the 2x2 round plate with 4 hooks is a great part to have for building trees.
April 11, 201410 yr The element I use most is oxygen. Realistically - it should be Nitrogen:) My favourite and most used element is the 'Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille' in light bluish grey. Edited April 11, 201410 yr by harmacy
April 11, 201410 yr Any 1x2 brick would qualify. Let´s say light bluish gray 1x2. I would prefer masonry 1x2 in light bluish gray but I have yet to buy them in bulk :p
April 11, 201410 yr 1x2 jumper plate. Gold ones because there is no gold 1x2 plate, tan ones for architectural details. After that 1x2 tiles then 1x2 plates. Wish I had many more: Travis bricks and 1xn plates, I always run out half way through any MOC and have to rebuild.
April 11, 201410 yr Hmm... actually, possibly the ones I see most are the standard minifigure elements (hip/leg assembly, torso, head).
April 11, 201410 yr Any 2x6 plate, I use tones of them for filling up landscapes. Several layers of them can make a landscape extremely sturdy and stable for transportation. Also any 1x2 plate, they make any structure look so much more realistic than 1x2 bricks...
April 15, 201410 yr So what are the most used LEGO elements that others on the forum use and if possible what do you think is the reason behind this choice? An interesting question! Do you mean any given element's shape in a specific colour and print, e.g. 2 x 4 bricks in tan, or do you just mean any given shape regardless of colour and printing, e.g. 2 x 4 bricks in any colour? Also, do you mean TLG's definition of "element" or BrickLink's? If you mean BrickLink's and are just asking about shape, the part I use most is the minifigure hand: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=983 . If you mean TLG's and are just asking about shape, it would be the minifig torso assembly. If you mean TLG's and include colour and printing specifications, it would probably be one of the minifig weapons, most likely the halberd in pearl dark grey that I used to arm most of my Uruk-Hai: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3848 . As you may have guessed, I mostly MOC minifigs.
April 15, 201410 yr I tend to like making fairly large builds out of pretty small parts, so although I use a lot of bricks, I'm pretty sure my brick consumption pales by comparison to other families of parts. I tend to use a lot of cheese wedges and tiles to skin things, but at the end of the day the parts I find myself both buying in bulk and running out of on a regular basis is the humble 1x2 plate. As for colors, my user name is ShaydDeGrai for a reason: my collection of Black, White, Light Gray, Light Bley, Dark Gray, Dark Bley probably makes up about 80% of my collection by weight.
April 26, 201410 yr This isn't what I use the most of but it is what I'm always reaching for only to find I've used them all. I find I use a lot of snot bricks or hinges, usually the 1x1 bricks with stud on one side.
May 6, 201410 yr 1x2 plate Really I am not sure, but I suspect this would be the piece I most use. But maybe I use more technic pins. I use a lot of technnic bricks, headlight bricks, stud jumpers, 1x2 tiles, 1x2 plates. Edited May 6, 201410 yr by eileenkeeney
May 6, 201410 yr I tend to use a lot of 1x3 and 2x3 plates when building vehicles because I have mainly built 7 wide trucks lately. For any other builds it would probably be 1x2 bricks and 1x2 plates. I have just taken apart and sorted out a couple of houses and ended up with tones of those.
May 6, 201410 yr I think the piece I use the most is the black track supports from my Airport Monorail set. They have been repurposed as display stands for most of my Star Wars sets and MOCs. Edited May 6, 201410 yr by Thorg23
May 6, 201410 yr Interesting question without a definite answer I'm afraid. I know I do not have much use in bulky blocks such as 2x4's and so on. Hmm, I usually use 1x4 or maybe 1x6 bricks though and I have fun with any sort of hinged piece. I love the masonry brick and lion's head part! I would guess the piece most used is more dependent on the type of build being worked on at the time. Edited May 6, 201410 yr by TheOrcKing
May 6, 201410 yr Both are already mentioned by others, but I think for me it's the Technic pin and the 1x2 plate. The 1 x 1 brick with stud on 1 side is a contender as well for me.
