LordoftheNoobs Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 OOC: Jeez, that was a shitload of crits! Grimwald attacks the ceiling, unless Arthur comes up with something else. Quote

Flipz Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 "All-out on that stalactite--this ends here." Arthur retrieves his throwing weapons, then waits for the others to make their attacks. Minoid fires the Quick Bow at Stalactite B from the Back Row. Grimwald Blinds the Left Hand and swings the Splinter Broom at Stalactite B from the Back Row. Erdy fires her handcannon at Stalactite B from the Back Row, then fires again. When the moment, at last, arrives, Arthur makes an important decision. If the heart more than 280 HP, he throws his Gladiator Trident at the Right Hand from the Back Row; if it's at or less than 280 HP, however, he throws his Chaotic Bomb from the Back Row. Actions take place in the order listed. (Yes, I'm being melodramatic. ) Quote
The_Customizer Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Now absolutely euphoric, Erdathcath fires her handcannon twice at the Stalactite B, back row. "I'm sorry Monolith, you know I hate having to do this, but I'm sure you can forgive us for this." Quote

The party continues their nearly suicidal barrage, knowing that a misstep and the consequences would be fatal. They continue to launch attack on attack on Monolith's impaled heart, driving the stakes deeper and deeper into the tattered organ. Finally, Erdathcath fires off a cannonball that hits a stalactite squarely. The force of the impact forces the gnarled spike deep into Monolith's heart. The giant freezes up for a brief moment... The last of Erdathcath's posion drips in, mixing into Monolith's inky blood. In a burst of static, Monolith expels the stalactite in his chest... and promptly keels over. His gargantuan blade sbecome wedged into the ground, the ceiling shaking one last time as the Giant falls. The floor shakes as well, the party keeping their balance as they watch their forsaken foe topple. "STATEMENT: Victory: Achieved. At long, long last..." "That was... Wow..." "You know what they say - the bigger they are, the harder you fall." "Remarkable... S-simply... Remarkable..." Flipz Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 "Of course," Arthur says, kneeling next to the fatally wounded automaton. Quote
Endgame Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Monolith struggles to speak, a wounded hand over his shredded ribcage. "I was given a conscious mind and a free will just so The Regret could torture it out of me. Says it makes me more effective in battle. But, nonetheless... The bottom line is, you're the first humans I've ever really interacted with. You're the first humans I've ever spoken to. The miners, they ran, they fled... But I was just some terror to them, not an actual creature. For years, I've tried to avoid my indoctrination - I wanted to believe that The Regret's propoganda was incorrect. Maybe you humans are, as he puts it... "Scum." Maybe you are a disease. But you three... You show me otherwise. You've proven to me that The regret was wrong about your kind, at least partially. Maybe The Regret is wrong, and maybe you do have a shot at defeating him. You defeated me, that is for damn sure... Hehehe..." Monolith coughs and sputters, clining on. Arthur backs up as electricity courses through his body, his heart beating faster and faster. "Listen to me, Heroes of Heroica. I said you needed perfect unity to win agaisnt The Regret. And it still holds true. I said if you couldn't work together as a perfect unit, you might as well be fighting The regret alone... Well, Heroes, here is the thing. The regret is alone. He has entire legions, an almost impenetrable castle, a fleet of Monolith Mk II's nearing completion. He weilds so much power. But he is alone. His every creation is just a reflection of his own soul. Each oculoid is just a... mirror I suppose. Another facet of The Regret. The servants that aren't, he manipulated and molded to be another slave to his will. His every troop, his every soldier, everyone you will oppose during your final battle... They're all just cruel duplicates of him, in essence. Just pale reflections... Remember that, heroes. Remember that, should you challenge him, The Regret is truly alone..." Quote
The_Customizer Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Erdathcath fights back tears as the Monolith slowly fades into unconsciousness, knowing full well he was just an innocent creature twisted and doomed to die by the Regret's choice. Then, with a sudden flare of fire in her eyes, she declares, "This, this has to stop. This has gone on for far too long. The Regret thinks he can do as he pleases with the souls of those weaker than him, he duplicates himself thousands of times over, and why? Because he is alone. He lashes out in anger at those who run from him, simply because they run. They cower in fear of him, but no longer. As of today, I swear, if I have to die doing it, we will end the rule of terror from the Regret." Quote

It draws near, heroes. And I suspect that The Regret will personally extend the invitation to the finale." Monolith grunts and draws out his claw. Shakily, his fingers wrap around his ribcage, gripping onto the cold metal. Grimacing, he holds back a bitter scream and tears his tattered ribcage open, exposing the throbbing heart. It rythmically spurts out dark blood with each and every strained pulse. "Please, do me one last favor. One last direct strike is all it'd take... Please... Deal the killing blow." Endgame Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Grimwald's broom plunges into Monolith's heart. He gives one last bittersweet look at his executioners - and by the same merit - saviors. "...G..o...o...d...b...y...e..." Monolith's single eye flickers, and shuts off. His limbs collapse to the ground, his every mechanical muscle creaking as they unfurled and hit the ground as well. The party steps back at looks at the Giant's gnarled, mecahnical corpse, knowing that Monolith... was dead. The Minoid stares intently at the tragedy, the relatively little robot reaching a cruel epiphany at that moment. "STATEMENT: This... This was not the human emotion I wnated to experience first. ...Let us leave this hellish place." And leave they did. pondering their latest bettle as they navigated through the wicked corridors of Nevermore, the party soon escapes the Regret's lost relam completely, finding themselves back in the deepest portion of the mine. "STATEMENT: I will bury this place. Stand back." The Minoid solemnly shuffles about, strategically planting the last of his explosives. Before long, all of them are set. After about a minute, they detonate in perfect unison, tons of rock becoming dislodged and tumbling down. It piles up into a miniature mountain, covering up the entrance to the Dauntlet Crypt - and, by extension, Nevermore. "STATEMENT: Hopefully history will one day forget of that horrible place." "You got that right." "...Agreed." Ther party continues backtracking - they treck up the scaffolding, heading across the upper ridge. They descend through the perilous cave, careful to avoid the rickety tiles. They go up in the elevator, and press through. In less than an hour or so, the party begins to see trickling rays of sunlight. They continue on their path... ...And emerge out from the Goland mine, back into the sunlight. Two faces await them - both of them familiar t some of the party. "...You're back... You're back, safely..." Sighs Cobb. "I can only assume your mission was a success, then? You kicked that gigantic bastard out of my mine for good? And found some other people in there, it seems." The Minoid ignores Cobb momentarily, turning his attention to the purple-garbed man. "QUERY: Creator? Mr. Masson Cour? Why are you here?" The main in purple - Masson Cour, presumably - gives a slight smile. "I was told you may or may have not been totaled - I came here in case you needed any serious repairs or the like. I'll have to perform some diagnostics in a bit, Minoid, if you don't mind."
