Section8 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 On the other hand an oil rig would surely be a great set with could include many action elements and play features: Right. An oil rig/platform would have a lot of playability with the helicopter and lifeboats, which is why I'm surprised that it hasn't been made before. I'd be interested to see how Lego made the drill string mechanism, as it is a bit complex. It would be cool if it were motorized too, but I could see how that wouldn't make much sense too. TV Tower around 100 Euros (perhaps as S@H Exclusive)tower with small office (to buy tickets for the drive to upwards) downstairs, a turnable restaurant and a viewing balcony on top of the tower and an elevator inside it (the elevator and the turning function of the restaurant may both be PF functioned - but not necessarily), a small landscape with a piece of a lake and a waterside with a bench, a street lamp and some flowers including a movable ice cream stand, some tools, some tumblers, some cups, a grey suitcase, a small TV car (for the worker to repair the TV aerials on top of the tower) and a spyglass minifigs: TV worker, waitress, female ticket seller, mother, father, son, boy and ice cream seller So it would be like the CN Tower in Toronto? That's not a skyscraper, it's a tower But it's a good idea, especially the revolving restaurant. I also wouldn't mind seeing a TV Studio Skyscraper, with different studios on different floors, like a news desk, kitchen for cooking shows, maybe a room in a house for a standard comedy show... Piranha Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 On the idea of Modernized City sets that are based on older ones here is an example Originals and Modernized version Quote
Piranha Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) I mentioned this in City 2010 Topic but I can be more in depth here Metroliner: Modern day redesign of the classic Metroliner Includes the Train, track and a little but well built station Plenty of figs and extras like bikes and such, trees and train signal Large Train Station: Built as a compliment for the metroliner Includes large terminal with food court, ticket stands and waiting area also could have a bus depot section Level train crossing: The part of the town where the train crosses over the road Control tower and maybe another small civilian building like a ice cream shop Edited October 7, 2009 by Macoco Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 I totally agree with you, Macoco - a new really huge train station is really needed (since the one from 2007 was a flop)! Here is a new idea I can't remember that has been posted before: Soda Truck 20 Euros Did you ever know how the pizzeria gets its coke and water? Yes, the soda truck delivers bottles of water, apple juice and coke to them! Load and enload the pallets with the bottles and drive them through the city. a truck built very similar to the one in 7733 but with car doors and without trailer and forklift including a pallet transportation vehicle (like in the 2008 advent calendar), a pallet with trans-white bottles (= water), a pallet with trans-yellow bottles (= apple juice) and a pallet with dark-trans bottles (= coke) minifigs: worker and truck driver This could even be an additional set to a depot/warehouse/cargo center, an additional set to a cargo train/cargo loading station or even simply a stand alone set as an additional civilian City set. Klaus-Dieter Quote
Rapseflaps Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I was thinking, in addition of having a tree and road sign package, Lego should release a box with 5 or 10 of those nifty streetlights they've been featuring in a few sets. It may not be a set all the kids will ask from their parents, but I'm sure it would be a welcome addition to any growing city. Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I think we need another double decker train club car, like the one released with the metroliner. That was a beauty with 2 decks, 2 cabins with beds and sinks , and a top deck dining area. Really ! Quote
AndyC Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 Nope, that's not a City set, it's a Lego Exclusive, on par with the sculpture sets. Besides, if everything we want Lego to make in this thread ends up made as a gargantuan set costing over $100 each, I'd rather they not be made at all. I only buy Town/City sets, not CC-style buildings. Thing is, if you actually want a decent hotel interior, it's going to end up being a gargantuan and expensive set anyway. Even CC hasn't actually got much space to put much of a hotel interior in it, in reality. Hotels just aren't a particularly small thing and, unlike things like police/fire/railway stations, you can't really get away with just putting in a couple of key areas crammed into a little space. Quote
Sammael Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 A small hotel (classic style) could get away with the following: Using one 16x32 plate and one 16x16 plate Ground floor: lobby/reception in the middle (24 studs), elevator on the left side (6 studs), small cafe on the right (12 studs) 1st floor: elevator exit on the left (6 studs), 4 rooms (8 studs each) 2nd floor: elevator exit on the left (6 studs), 2 suites (16 studs each) Roof: air conditioning systems, solar panels Each room would be equipped with a shower, double bed, table, and TV set and have a balcony Suites would also include a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, tap) and a couch; one of the suites would also have a large balcony with hot tub on the roof of 1st floor Extras: taxi, street lights, suitcases, 1x1 tiles printed as keycards Minifigs: valet, receptionist, waiter, taxi driver, 3 guests It should be modular so that we could add multiple 1st floors. It should also be relatively easy to put two hotels back to back (built in a mirror image) to get a closed structure with more space. I think this set could cost about $80 or so and have about 600 pieces. Its appearance should be compatible with City Corner. Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 What do people think of my club car idea? Quote
Section8 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 What do people think of my club car idea? Of course we'd like to see that (re)made. It was one of the best Trains sets ever made (along with the Metroliner). A whole train of club car-like cars would be neat, and would allow for the inclusion of more complete kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping areas. It'll be interesting to see what the new train series has, but Lego has been trending towards less extra cars and such and just making a few complete train sets and a few hobby train sets. That's a shame; I liked all the extra cars from the 80s-90s. Quote
Piranha Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Soda truck is a brilliant idea Klaus-dieter! I also like the club car idea, modernized to go with a modernized metroliner. LEGO really needs to make better interior details on passenger trains like they did on the metoliner it had snack bar, wash bin, engine room, sleeping area, storage, seating area and 2 engineer control rooms! Most of the new trains only have chairs and tables Not really a difficult thing to include either. Quote
chriz Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I would love do see a bank with armored security truck and a skyscraper Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) I was actually thinking about buying the metroliner set off Bricklink and taking the conventinal cars out and replacing them with club cars, making a double-decked train with 6 fully equipped sleeper cabins, 24 chairs with tables for every 2 chairs, and two locomitives with 9V motors. But the club car prices on Bricklink are $50 WITHOUT the stickers or box, so I can't say that will be happening any time soon. Edited October 12, 2009 by Legoliner Pilot Quote
Legoist Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Here is some sets that also need remakes ... Some of use would so much need a "set" (accessory pack) like that... that's something to buy in the multiples of 10. Quote

The route I was considering was to just buy the critical parts (wagon base, windows, doors) and build my own. They wouldn't be copies of the club car, but designs like the American Amtrak's Superliner cars, with two full levels and the passages between them on the top level. The entry doors would be on the lower level, not the ends, and the lower level would be at least 5 bricks high to allow for a minifig to stand. Quote

Rick Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I'm telling you man, trees, road signs and streetlights. AFOL Goldmine! I think PaB is partly intended to fill this gap. I ordered 20 'Modular Building' street lights a few years back from PaB, wasn't that expensive. Trees are available in only two varieties on PaB, road signs (at least the stickers or printed pieces) are still missing from PaB. But having said that, I would like TLG to release these packages again. It should bring down the costs compared to PaB and I also think AFOLs would stock up on them heavily. This could also work with other town accessories like benches, fire hydrants, fences, etc. Quote

They are a good source for parts though. I am going there in November, and I'm going to purchase 5 large cups for my current project. Remember, stuff the cups until they look totally deformed! Quote
5150 Lego Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 How about a series of Aulstrain "Road Train" Semi trucks? 8 wide (or six ) semi trucks with triple (or more) trailers! I think that would give great playability for kids. Heck, you can even include it in an "Outback Theme' of some sort. Quote
Section8 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 How about a series of Aulstrain "Road Train" Semi trucks? Wow, those are neat, especially the Shell one. I think those are banned in most of the USA; the largest I saw was a mail semi with three ~20ft trailers attached. But multiple full-size trailers are non-existant, at least in the heavily populated eastern half. I could see Lego making a truck with 2 trailers, but with same hitches on both so that if you bought more than one set, you could hook 3 or more trailers to one cab. On a somewhat related note, I'd like to see Lego make more modern road-rail. Specifically, I'm talking about what are called Roadrailers, where you have semi trailers connected by rail trucks at each end to form a train. 8 wide (or six ) semi trucks with triple (or more) trailers! Or how about 4-wide trailers? I'd take 6-wide too, but no wider. You can't put an 8-wide trailer on a 6-wide train car and have it look good. I don't mind 6-wide trailers, as several official sets even from the last decade pulled it off well, but the last round of 6-wide intermodal shipping containers were awful. Non-standard, cheaply constructed, etc. It wouldn't be so bad if they established a size/stacking standard and made ends with real doors, like the old 4-wide ones. I refused to buy any of the new sets with them because of this. Quote
Zzz Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 I already posted my offensive wish for more minifg diversity in City and now I include an idea that TLC came up with by themselfs: A trenchcoat minifg with Indys hat! How sweet is that? (As seen in the Agents online game) Quote

Piranha Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Yes Press and maybe a newspaper truck or something would be sweet I also like the Outback theme idea something like this set LEGO did do other outback subtheme sets too that were nice but that one is the largest and I think the best. Has the idea of a Zoo been used before? Central Park Zoo: Includes several structures not on one base plate but multipule little ones. (like city corner) Gate/Entrance, food area/picnic, 3 animal exhibits: Elephant, Lion and Crocodile The exhibits could be made like the Pig Pen was, with gate/fence and inside, water plants and printed food dish Figures are Ticket seller, Zoo keeper, Food Seller and 1-2 Civilians (one of them female or little kid) Quote
Rapseflaps Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Yeah, a Lego City zoo could be nice. They seem to make a new Duplo zoo every three years anyway, I wonder why they haven't made one for the System line. Quote
