@Greenstar That'd be fun! Trying to figure out how the cable would release at either end to change direction.

Yeah, it would be pretty fun, but as of now it would also probably be very brick heavy

although I’m sure something can be worked out to make it take less pieces

This would be a harder set type to do, but what about an urban cable car system with intermediate and end stations

the basic set would include two end stations and some cable length as well as two cabins with the ability to purchase intermediate stations and extra cabins

Don't need. But I'd definately buy.

Now if only we could get some road rails to accommodate the cable car itself.

That’s a different type of cable car than what I’m talking about, however, a set like the San Francisco system would be cool as well.

im talking about systems that are also called gondolas that hang below their cable and are able to run up steep slopes and other odd terrain

Oh....those! I'd definitely go for that if it were possible.

It’s possible, just extremely hard to do

there are some cool videos on YouTube under lego detachable ropeway

I'd think a full Gondola System would need thousands of pieces, to cover a certain distance and be structurally strong enough.

But Friends had a Ski Lift in 2017 , so something to carry just 1-2 figures could work as a set, but of course the slope/distance is very short.

@Greenstar What Teri just at the beginning is why I second guessed the idea. It may work but considering that these are City sets, they have to be simple.

When you look at the Spider-Man bridge battle set, there is a simple gondola car included, that’s the concept for the cabins of these sets

Of course. The question is...... how will they CITYfy it.

The stops could be built to attach to the modular buildings on either the roof or under it, this would allow easy integration of the system into the city

Hmmmm! Personally, I think it would be easier to do a streetcar rather than a hanging cable car. But who knows. It may actually work and Lego may actually do one for City.

Streetcar would be easier, then again, so would monorail, but it’s a possibility for mountain based cities that need effective public transport to connect areas.

You bring up very valid points and tbh, if they were to do a Metro Transit subtheme for City, they could easily slip one of these in. Perhaps a coach tour set with a coach bus and a hanging cable car fof tourists. That would be an automatic purchase by me.

Yeah, that would be kinda cool.

in the game Cities Skylines, I used to struggle with connecting mountain areas to the rest of the city before I got the Mass Transit DLC with cable cars in it,  they would work well in a LEGO mountain city as well, not just as a tourist attraction.

this has been the case with the metrocable in Medellin, Columbia as well.

They say around here that the Transit system doesn't appeal to kids. But I disagree. I've been into the transit system since I was a child and I've known other to be too. I can tell you for a fact that these are sets I certainly would've begged my mom for as a child.

I'm a bus driver and I have been to career days at school. If the transit system didn't appeal to kids, that wouldn't happen. Now would it?

That’s a fair point

more mass transit sets would be great to have

also, what company do you drive for?

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Why?

Just out of curiosity, although I’ve only ever ridden the metro when I visited the area

Ok , to move the discussion here instead of City 2020.

I'd really like to see a Hideout set again, LEGO made multiple of them from 2012-2018, but a large set focused on a Hideout structure could be nice, since there were none in 2019.

Instead of posting many pictures, I just list the sets here , from 2012-2018 there were 9 different structures, but each set had 2-3 vehicles included as well.

https://brickset.com/sets/tag-Criminal-Hideout/theme-City

Maybe I'll MOC one later in the year, I can certainly see potential in using parts from the new Summer 2020 Ninjago sets, 3-in-1 Pirate ship etc, to get the brown/grey/black parts look, and then add some plants and boarded up windows

I agree! Like you said, considering that we didn't get one in 2019 or this year tbh, I don't think it's too much to ask for a crooks hideout as the base set instead of the annual police headquarters we see every year. Police Stations have gotten boring nowadays.

I hope they do a public transportation subtheme alongside next years police wave. Maybe a bus heist for the 2021 police wave may help them tie into each other.

Train heist carrying passengers and possibly something valuable

or for police headquarters, a police themed armoured train or a crook themed armoured train

Train heists is kinda obvious though and a bit....well....not interesting anymore. I said a bus heist since that'll be very interesting and something brand new for City. Stuffing bags of money and gold inside of a bus. Sorta like this YouTube episode of The Engines of Sodor. Though instead of the train being there, it's just a simple police chase.

As for the police armored train, that's something I'd fight for. I'd also fight for a police bus as well. I kinda was hoping for a police bus for this year's wave. But there wasn't one.
