jonwil Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 We have had some nice buses over the years from LEGO IMO but no articulated bendy bus has ever been released. I think my favorite is the bus from the 2017 Bus Station set although the long-distance coach from the 2010 Public Transport Station is a close second. I would love to see LEGO do an articulated bendy bus and it would be an instant buy unless they priced it way too high (like they did with this year's Main Square set). Or a classic US style yellow school bus (its been done in Hidden Side with that funky bus set, its been done in Cars with the crazy school bus character, its been done a few times in Duplo and its even been done in a Friends set but its never been done in a City set before) Quote

Oh yes, thanks - I was lost in translation and mixed it up with double decker. Nevertheless and even then I highly doubt that an articulated bus will ever happen because of three reasons: 1. For a standalone set it would be much too pricey. 2. If being decent sized, for smaller kids it would be bulky. 3. Only a huge town plan style set could include it - and then a tram seems more interesting since outside of these kinds of sets a tram will never happen (, too). 12 minutes ago, Brandon Pea said: Those sets seem like they'd fit better into the fire and medical subthemes for City. I'm looking at $29.99 as the maximum for a set like that. If we look at past Great Vehicles, we can see that Lego did vehicles similar to that, only they were haulers. So I don't think pricing will be an issue. Also, here is an articulated bus moc that my friend made along with a shuttle bus and short line bus. If Lego did something like this (along with a little bus stop), I don't think it would be too bulky for children. Bulky would be 8 stud wide. I'm with you there in regards to trams. A rapid transit train is more likely for a standalone set than a tram. But I think a bendy bus is possible to release outside of a town plan set just like any other type of bus. Klaus-Dieter Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 (edited) Here are my hopes for the 2022 Trains theme: road-track possible signal light repair truck (like the one in 7936, but six studs wide and much more elaborated) - 20 Euros train rail crossing (like 7996 Train Rail Crossing), but with four arms so you can have two trains runnning parallel - 30 Euros commuter train (similar to 7938, but in green, at the best lime green) (please no highspeed train since in the past two Trains theme there always had been one) - 140 Euros fire fighting train (prefered because something completely new) or track repair train (similar to 3677) - 200 Euros huge, minimum two floors tall train station (with ticket booth, railway control center, bistro, grocery, Lego store and indoor waiting area) and a handicapped accessible taxi van (could be the year's D2C set then and fit very well two years after the Main Square from 2020) - 100-180 Euros What do you think? Klaus-Dieter Posted September 5, 2020 Author Posted September 5, 2020 Since the past years TLG has introduced many new animals I made a list which animals we supposable will see and which animals I would like to see in the next years (only) inside the City theme. I devided between "reprinted part" and "new mould". Here it is: Farm: reprinted part: brown-white checked cow (from cow), grey horse (from horse) new mould: sheep, jackass, pheasant Harbor / Ocean: reprinted part: small mixed sea animals in different colors (from the Friends theme), turtle (from the CMF theme) new mould: seal, orca, pot whale, jellyfish Moutain / Forest / Winter:: reprinted part: otter (from Harry Potter theme), wolf (from dog), reindeer (from Winter Village theme), hedgehog (from Friends theme) new mould: weasel, chamois, fox, wild pig, squirrel Jungle / Volcano / Savannah: reprinted part: zebra (from horse), monkey (old monkey, but with prints), big panda bear (from brown bear) new mould: elephant, gazelle, bison, male lion, ocelot, rhino Dessert: reprinted part: big snake (from Harry Potter CMF theme) new mould: hyena, small dromedary Outback: reprinted part: dingo (from dog) new mould: kangaroo, koala, Tasmanian devil Arcitc / Antarctic: reprinted part: snow leopard (from leopard), snow rabbit (from rabbit) new mould: sea lion, wisent City: reprinted part: male duck (from rubber duck), female duck (from rubber duck), grey-black pigeon (from pigeon) new mould: swan What do you think and would like? jonwil Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Of the above suggested animals I love the idea of a sheep (one that fits better with normal figures and animals than the Friends lamb), a rhino and a kangaroo. For the jungle I want to add a hippo and a gorilla and a giraffe to the list. For the outback I want to add an emu and maybe a lizard of some sort to go with the snake we already have. Oh and if its possible, take the newer style bigger spider in black and print some red on the abdomen to make a redback spider. Quote

Any time I’ve done one, I’ve also made sure to include seats facing the middle as well as forward facing seats And a tram would be nice for certain cities if it were motorised and able to carry passengers. Although I still wish they would bring back the monorail On the topic of monorail, it is more prototypical for some cities compared to light rail or rapid transit rail. And a hanging monorail would be able to use existing tracks if based off of the Wuppertal design to allow for bidirectional travel on one piece of track Quote
Greenstar Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Here’s what I would like for a public transit theme, going from the lowest capacity to highest. Bike share terminals, like we have here in my city. With a small sheltered bike rack, four black and red bikes, and two minifigures. I’m not a big fan, but I know some people may like those little details for their cities. A taxi stand with a cab and two minifigures, one being a cab driver. A possible taxi depot for this or another standalone set with it to repair taxi cabs. An autonomous shuttle, Much like our Linden LEAP shuttle(Sound familiar?) here in Columbus. It would include two stops and three minifigures, one of which is a worker for the transport company and the other two are passengers. Would look like the Linden LEAP in design, but would be coloured mostly white, or one other color, with light blue window panes. A cutaway bus for paratransit service, like our COTA mainstream. Including a person in a wheelchair and a driver. A normal sized bus for regular routes with driver and two passengers. Two stops included A bus rapid transit set with An Articulated bus with driver, four passengers, two special Bus Rapid Transit Stops with paying to enter the stop and level boarding, possibly special printed roads with red Bus only lanes. A bus depot for bus maintenance with two workers and a special lift for the buses. Also included would be a special bus tow truck that has a pusher on the front to nudge buses to assist in starting them, with a driver. A motorised tram/light rail set with a three section tram/light rail vehicle, Four passengers, A driver, two stops, and new road plates with tram track. An elevated rapid transit train set or metro set with one Station(elevated or “underground”), a driver, four passengers, a train with three cars, benches on the platform, and a loop of track. A monorail set(straddle or suspended) with one two car monorail vehicle, a driver, three passengers, two elevated stops with benches, and a loop of track. An Airport people mover with a loop of track and two stations, as well as a two car train with no driver, and three passengers. an aerial cable car(possibly) with four cabins, two stops, and three passengers. any thoughts on any of these? For the autonomous shuttle idea https://smart.columbus.gov/get-involved/linden-leap Quote

The Island Chronicles Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) Hmmm.........You guys all have good ideas for a public transportation wave. City however, obviously doesn't want to push public transportation that much considering that we only see one to two pieces of public transportation matter a year. These are mostly seen in mega sets and throughout the years, we've only gotten two sets that are strictly dedicated to public transport (one being in 2010 and the other being in 2017). Though if we were to count the passenger trains, I'd say six. I think either Great Vehicles and Town is as far as we're going to get as far as the public transport system. Matter of fact, the way things were for City in 2010s is the way its likely going to be for the foreseeable future. Let's not forget, this ain't the golden age anymore. That ended for City in the early 2010s. Its a new era. Sets dedicated solely to public transport: 7897 Passenger Train 7997 Train Station 7937 Train Station 7938 Passenger Train 8404 Public Transport Station 60050 Train Station 60051 High Speed Passenger Train 60154 Bus Station 60197 Passenger Train Sets that show signs of a public transport system. 7641 City Corner - bus 60026 Town Square - bus 60097 City Square - tram 60200 Capital City - bus 60233 Doughnut Shop Opening - taxi 60271 Main Square - tram So we've actually got 15. But to be frank, those were really thrown around through town and trains - which kinda frustrates me. My assumption is that the designers that handle City sets want to save "dedicated" subthemes for action that children DON'T get to see on a daily basis with police and exploration being the best sellers. That could explain why we don't have a dedicated subtheme for public transport and why certain subthemes like garage, mail, cargo, farm, construction and emergency must've been.discontinued as subthemes as the average child can pretty much see that type of action every time they step out of their house. That's probably why it would be considered "boring". Things like police chases, fire fights, the arctic, planes (unless you live on an air force base), trains (unless you live near a railroad), the deep sea, space, rescues at sea, the jungle or volcanos are things that the average child out there DON'T get to see everyday. Thus making children excited about these sets. Thus why they sell well. Thus why we see them all the time and why we will keep seeing them for the foreseeable future of Lego City. If you work any of the former jobs, I am not attacking you. I also work in public transport - so it would be hypocritical of me to attack. These are just jobs that the average child would see everyday. Edited September 7, 2020 by Brandon Pea Quote

But I'm sure it would make a great City set. The taxi station is also a good one. In City, I've only seen 3 taxis. Would be great to have a s st dedicated to the Lego City cab company. Same with the bendy bus. I drive one of those btw. I'd also add a short line set to your Public Transportation wave idea. That would be a set with a small 30 foot bus for usage on smaller routes.
