Another idea: a cruise ship

closest we’ve got to a Lego cruise ship is the titanic, so I think a cruise ship would be cool, even for just Lego in general, could be in icons, city, creator, or friends

We did get a Ferry Boat in 2019. But I see what you mean by cruise ship!

Would be nice to see a new type of Steak / Meat piece, or the rarely used one return, even if this is quite oversized, but seeing larger piece of hanging meat in a butcher shop is pretty common. 

It's not like LEGO food was ever to scale anyway, especially with those head-sized apples, and leg sized bananas and carrots which are mostly relics from the 90s Scala era that introduced those food pieces for much much bigger figures

I would have to agree with Izzynufc-2 in regards to a theater, cinema, and bakery. Those would be a great addition to the LEGO City theme.

I do not know who mentioned the idea of a Tropical Island subtheme for LEGO City. Nevertheless, that sounds like a really great idea.

I would also like to see a cat hotel. In addition, an animal shelter would be a really great idea, too.

Also, in response to the ATV & Otter Habitat, I would like to see a Park Ranger subtheme. This would also be a great idea.

Half of these are current or recently retired friends sets

a park ranger subtheme would be cool, here’s what my list would be:

$25, park ranger rescue vehicle: would come with a new badger mould, the vehicle would look like a jeep and have a winch to free some badgers

$55, park ranger helicopter and hawk habitat: a helicopter, similar in size to 3658, would also come with 2-3 trees, would have the bald eagle mold, as well as a recolor of the falcon from series 24

$70 park ranger headquarters: it will be a small base with a river next to it, and a bridge going across the river, wide enough to fit the atv from 60394, a small truck, similar to 60353 will be included, a skunk could be included as well!

$120, waterfall mountain lion rescue: a large mountain with a waterfall, a small ledge will have a mountain lion cub in peril! It's rescue team includes: a bike with sidecar, a helicopter similar to the one in 60330, a raft, in size with the one in 76942,  and an amphibious vehicle, kinda like 60161

Retail exclusive: $30, park ranger raft: a Rather large raft, similar to 75938, as well as a poor badger in distress!, it's hanging on by a limb, no seriously, it's hanging on a tree branch

Agreed, Friends sets are pretty much 100% compatible in City, and most of those Friends sets also focus mainly on the buildings, while City sets almost always have some vehicle taking a slice out of the parts/budget.

Of course I'm not saying that shops cannot exist in City, but as we've seen before, with sets like that Donut/Toy Shop, Car Wash/Pizza place / City Station , Shopping Street, they were quite dominated  by vehicles being at least 30-50% of the overall set.

On the other hand , I can see how colors / style / stickers etc are different from City, so not in everyone's taste, but the sets themselves can still work as good inspiration.

Creator also has shown they can do Dentist, Hair Salon, Bank, etc as alternate builds without needing any sticker at all. (set 31097: Townhouse Pet Shop & Café )

 

I've been taking apart sets , to eventualy MOC a custom street, pictures/instructions for Friends, City, and 3-in-1, including retired sets, can still work as great inspiration for MOC even without owning the sets.

 

Hopefully when Stuntz goes away someday, there might be room for other larger subthemes like Harbor/Marina again.

There have been a lot of newer parts since 2011.

Something like the road for the 2007 harbor can easily be done with road plates.

Ok! Since we have obviously returned to the City renassance now, where were are introducing sets with barely any vehicles, I have an idea for a set. For anyone who has had a passion to work for the auto industry, my idea for an awesome City set would be a drive-thru express service lube, similar to the ones owned by the Jiffy Lube company. Like the buildings that we're going to see during the summer, the set would mainly focus on the building with one car for the mechanics to repair and one of the garages can have a lift. Just an idea.

I would prefer an building for a BBQ joint. There have been so many ice cream trucks that look like food trucks, and in the end they will all look the same. LOL

The botanical garden looks so good, why did Lego have to make it a Friends set??? I love minifigs but I cannot say the same about minidolls.

I fully intend to populate mine with minifigs rather than minidolls when I get it.  It should be a simple swap.

I....think you may be a little too late for that. City only does classic police now and the explorers sets aren't really that relevant anymore. Like you don't see a lot of them, so much so that they are soooooooo easy to ignore that its not even funny. The last special police wave, Sky Police, was so crappy and emergency landed to the ground so hard (corny pun intended) that an embarassed Lego Group hasn't done one since. From 2021 onwards, they've stuck to only doing a little bit of classic police sets every year.

The rumoured retiring set list is pretty big for 2023, so there certainly should be room for a subtheme

Currently retiring subthemes look to be

• All Stuntz
• All Space
• Construction (2022 Crane, 4+ Cement Mixer, 2023 Loader)
• 2022 Medical (Hospital, Helicopter, HQ, 4+ VET)
• 2022 Police (Bank, Mobile HQ, Ice Cream Chase)
• 2022 Fire (Station, Sardine Factory and some vehicle sets)
• Other Vehicles like 2021 Ice Cream Truck, 2022 Horse Transport
• 3 Missions sets
• Farm Barn

Since Police is likely keeping the 2022 Police Station, and the 2023 Academy and 4+ station, a think a Prison or Bank subtheme could still work with new sets (having like a seperate set with a Bank Building, or Jail building, and then vehicle sets to transport Money/Gold, or perhaps a Prisoner Bus.

As for Fire, a new Fire station seems quite soon , but maybe a new Fire station using those module plates could work, especially since this summer wave introduced a L shaped 16x16, maybe a larger fire station could use a mix of those, and 8x16 to make a new building.

2 of those would make a 16x24 area for a garage , while keeping modularity with some smart connections.

 

Fire and Construction sites also go well together, so having another construction site would be nice, since City does seperate buildings now, as well as buildings being modules, a Construction/Demolition site in progress with some fire risk could still work as well.

As for a hospital, there was a pause between the 2018 and 2022 hospitals, so if they skip a year it would not surprise me (Friends also does hospitals so if City does skip a new hospital , I highly expect a Friends set)

Good ideas, but I think he was talking about other subthemes other than police, fire, hospital and construction.
