Bob De Quatre Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Responding to the distress call of the Rebels engaging the imperial troops underground, Bob De Quatre led his assault barge to the dock 43. After destroying the defense turret, he unload the assault squad on the platform. their plan is simple... The dock 43 is building above a small patch of ashes, where some plants manage to grow slowly thanks to the trace of humidity brought by a sewer exhaust. A couple of firecrabs live here, eating the harsh plants. Plan A: the R2 unit will open the doors and they'll proceed to the command station, unnoticed. Plan B: if R2Q5 fails to open the door, the squad will blow up the doors and proceed to the command station, noticed. Plan C: if the doors blasting fails, they'll enter by the sewer entrance and proceed to the command station, noticed and smelling like mellcrawlers... So this is my entry for SoNE ep. IV! My first time with landscape, rockwork and lava... Ended up pretty well I think. I may add a pictures to show the plants and firecrabs under the platform Edit: Here is the LDD file And a big thanks to Bbqqq for rendering the LDD files! It would have took me ages to render these Quote
goatman461 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Wow. That landing craft and the lights and the smoking turret and the lava and the rocks and the platform... I'm speechless. Quote
Nom Carver Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Wow Bob, you never stop surprising me. The transport looks amazing, the rocks are pure genius, the landing shapes on the platform and the details, everything is simply perfect . Quote
Lobot Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I think that you should concentrate on ships Bob, and give the rest of a chance!! Superb work, it's just beautiful  Quote
Steel Tiger Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Wow. I can't point out anything that you did wrong here. This is a fantastic creation. (And it puts mine to shame ) This has to be the best entry I've seen so far. Most of us Imps haven't posted ours yet. But seriously, I love it! Quote

VK-318 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Dang, that's good! *sigh* This isn't shaping up well, guys ... Quote
Kaitan Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 You know I think this is fantastic already, Bob, but the addition of the lights is just - Wow :)) Cheer up, lets show them the might of sheer numbers (gasp). Yep cos that's the only way you can win. Quote
Lego Spy Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Wait - does this entry count, or not? Aren't you technically staff? (Great Incredible work though! ) Edited April 18, 2014 by Lego Spy Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Thanks everyone for your kind comments Edit: Added a link to the LDD file I think that you should concentrate on ships Bob, and give the rest of a chance!! Superb work, it's just beautiful  Thanks Lobot, but I honestly think that there are far more greater entries than mine. Wait - does this entry count, or not? Aren't you technically staff? (Great work though! ) Who said staff can't enter? The only one that can't enter is the episode host, as he is the one that write the rules for a given episode Quote
Dapper-D2 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 This is Epic Bob! I don’t know what else to say about it other than the night time shots remind me of Halo. Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 As many have said, this is probably the best entry so far! The dropship is beautiful and that landing platform.......IT'S SO ROUND! The rockwork looks so real too. Us Immps don't stand a chance because of you Rebel scum! ( ) Quote
BEAVeR Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Edit: Added a link to the LDD file No, there goes my chance to get your entry disqualified due to a lack of LDD file... At least, LDD Manager can help me... It tells me there are quite some bricks you used that don't exist! For example, the 1x4 dark tan tile, the 1x2 plate with handle in dark grey... the list goes on and on. Somebody violated the rules here, and should be disqualified! Well, it's not explicitly in the rules, but that's only fair (you already use a huge amount of bricks, and then you start using notn-existing bricks. Not very fair to those building in real life!), and I quote (who am I quoting? I think his name is Bob De Quatre or something in the Ep. III thread): As Lobot said, as long as a part/color combination exist in real brick, you can use it in LDD entries So I'm afraid this entry won't count! O wait... Bob is a member of staff nowadays... he can probably get me banned... so let's stay friends, right? Let's say this portion above was just a bad joke to express my jealousy for such a great build? Here, have some cookies And now for the real stuff. Let me really explain how awesome I think this creation is. Let's begin with that ship. That looks great as always, and is clearly inspired by e.g. WWII landing boats. Nice touch. Also great to see some interior detailing with the grills and such. And man, those greebles the way they accentuate the engines is great, although it would have been nice if there had been some kind of thicker area there, purely for structural integrity. It's pretty incredible as well you took care of the underside of the ship (and it's ramp) as well. That's high class. On to the platform. That's some nice Bob-style roundness there! I've got used to this from you, so forgive me that I won't spend much time there. It's worth noting though that the bridge complements the platform really well with the LBG/DBG contrast. It ends in that door with the nice letters. O, and we passed that turret underway that looks awesome... besides the fact it was taken down. Thank you for that . We also passed the black land with the fire crabs and the plants you told us about. Great to see these included, and breack the rocks up nicely. Man those rocks... Spectacular. The different shades of brown, the odd shapes at instances (that arch definetly is my favorite), the little rock islands in the lava... are you sure you never have done landscaping before, because this is pure awesomeness. Now you've got me wanting more of this (though preferably outside a SoNE episode ) !! The lava is very nice as well, although I wonder why you didn't use any dark red. We end our tour with the base. I have no idea where you got the idea, but that hexagonal base is a stroke of genious. No idea why it works, but it makes your entry really stand out. And the blue structural support is nice as well... So it would be a great pitty if it would be disqualified, because clearly you spent a lot of time and love on it! Then why am I reporting? Well, an Imperial victory maybe is a teenie weenie bit more important than you winning. After all, your mission wasn't going to be succesful because that one TIE pilot will reveal your presence! Too bad... *gets zapped by laserbeam* Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Well... thanks a lot BEAVeR... I think... No, there goes my chance to get your entry disqualified due to a lack of LDD file... III thread): I knew some parts I used didn't exist, mostly dark browns one... And I assure you that I often checked availability on bricklink when I used odd and rare pieces... So I used LDD Manager to see the list you are refering to, and checked on Bricklink too, and I was really surprised to see that some bricks in LDD normal mode don't exists... So I guess that I'll have to be even more carefull in the future, and that the SoNE staff will have to decide if my entry should be disqualified It's pretty incredible as well you took care of the underside of the ship (and it's ramp) as well. I always "finish" the models, and I could spent weeks just looking at it from every angles to add details, even if they won't even show on the pictures, like those firecrabs or the heatshields projectors (well ok, it's only 4L trans-blue bars) on the underside of the platform. My real problem is that I continue to do that even after I've post the pictures, and in that case, even after Bbqqq has done all the rendering I wanted to chance some small details that no one would have noticed We end our tour with the base. I have no idea where you got the idea, but that hexagonal base is a stroke of genious. No idea why it works, but it makes your entry really stand out. The hexagonal base (well in fact there are 7 hexes, in tribute to Scott Pïlgrim VS the world) is so better that a boring square I wasn't happy with the round platform, so I tried different shapes and found that the hexagons could do a nice base. And the blue structural support is nice as well... Yes cause it's important to have a structural support, isn't it? Quote
BEAVeR Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Wow, awesome how much time you invest in these things. It was a great voyage of discovery to look at your model from all the different angles, and then noticing that there are details everywhere. Really, hat off. But you should post more pictures, that everyone can see what kind of genious you are (note: this is not trying to get Bob's good opinion. It's just what I think). Well... thanks a lot BEAVeR... I think... <snip> Yes cause it's important to have a structural support, isn't it? So, your welcome, I guess At least you learned that normal LDD cannot be trusted! (had the same issue with the previous episode, causing me to swap a lot of pieces... this time I just used extended, didn't use a lot of rare parts, and was annoyed all the time by how few basic dark tan bricks there are...) And yes, tell me about structural support... Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 This is an amazing MOC Bob! You have made me decide that I need to honor the alliance, and construct my own MOC! Can you give me any advice on how to render the model once built, as I do not know what version of LDD I have. :P Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 (note: this is not trying to get Bob's good opinion. It's just what I think) I know.... You just want to leave the Empire and join the rebellion... You're welcome my friend This is an amazing MOC Bob! You have made me decide that I need to honor the alliance, and construct my own MOC! Can you give me any advice on how to render the model once built, as I do not know what version of LDD I have. :P Thanks. You should head to the LEGO Digital Designer and other digital tools forum. To render LDD file I use LDDtoPOVRay, you'll find thread about it in the subforum I linked Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Thanks Bob! :) Currently working on my MOC now. This has really inspired me; well done! :D Quote
TWP Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Great work Bob! The landscaping is great! I love that boarding boat thing, You've used great techiques in it! I'm lucky to be in your team! It's a shock to hear this MOC might be disqualified! I hope not! Quote
BEAVeR Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I'm very sorry I blew this up like this. You really don't deserve to be disqualified due to such a silly accident. I don't want to have this entry go lost for such a little detail and due to my shear jealousy. Especially since you already tried to check all the bricks. So I do apologize for my rather rude behaviour, and hope the judges, in their wisdom, treat it accordingly. This should be about having fun with building together. And if you want a real argument: the bricks you used in those colors hardly change something significant to this build and could be easily replaced. (as it was with my build: I had to replace all 1x3 dark tan plates that were all in strange angled positions. A lot of work, but it hardly changed the overall appearance). So let this be over! Don't let a tiny detail ruin such a beautiful build. Well at least something like this will never happen again. But I'm sorry for the mess I made. I hope you (and every one else) forgive me. Quote
Lord Tyrus Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Great work Bob! The landscaping is great! I love that boarding boat thing, You've used great techiques in it! I'm lucky to be in your team! It's a shock to hear this MOC might be disqualified! I hope not! Hehe, not for us Imps! We need everything we can get at the moment, we're not doing too good... Nah only joking, this doesn't deserve to be disqualified. As I said earlier, this is one of the best entries for the whole episode! Edited April 18, 2014 by Lord Tyrus Quote
LegoFjotten Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I know I already commented briefly on this when it was posted, but it deserves a few more words. This is my probably my favourite build this episode, I really love it! The Lava, the platform, that awesome troop carrier, rockworks... all fantastic! And top notch renderings too! I sometimes find LDD builds more difficult to look at, but with renders like these... Quote
