6 Kits in and my first missing piece. 75002 the Lego Star Wars AT RT, hit the missing piece on step #5. :look:

Couldn't believe it, I kept digging through the pieces for 10 minutes before I admitted that it really just wasn't there.

Pretty disappointing, I've been looking forward to this little kit for a while.

I really hope the Pet Shop modular I got (which I haven't had space or time to assemble) is complete, now I'm worried.

I'm in the middle of moving so I really wanted a small 200 piece kit to do in the evening since I don't really have the time or space to do the Pet Shop or any of the big kits I got. So I've been looking for the Highway Speedster and the AT RT as small kits I could do in the evening with limited space.

Finally I got to sit down to it last night, and right there on step 5, a little 2 stud brick with a hinge on one side,..directions said grab two,..there was only one.

Anyway thanks to searching in this great forum I was quickly able to figure out the solution and had filled out the Lego Customer Service form and have them mail me a replacement piece within like 20 minutes.

..stinks that I have to wait weeks to put this kit together, but really cool of Lego to offer a replacement that's basically, "no questions asked."

When I put together the first bag, which is Yoda, the Droid, the Clone Trooper, and the tri-pod gun,...I was left with a bunch of left over pieces. An extra lightsaber handle (no blade), an extra set of Droid arms,..and a few little studs and bits. I thought it was weird that I had so much 'extra.'

I wonder if that threw off the weight or something for the kit? I'm not sure how Lego packages these, but I imagine they're weighed by computer and that's probably how they can tell if a piece is missing.

Since this had a few extra pieces in bag #1 I guess that kept the weight where it was supposed to be.

Bummer though.

This forum has been extremely helpful in answering my questions though, really helpful.

A very good resource for those of us who are new to all this.

Thanks again Eurobricks. :classic:

The extra pieces you got seen pretty normal. I don't think it was a weight issue. I would say about 1 in 20-25 sets have a missing piece. I always get the worst luck, though, when it comes to missing pieces, so I'd say about 1 in every 5-6 sets I get have one missing.

Man that's a bummer.

So far I've got: The Coast Guard plane, The Melting Room, The orange Creator car, the Mountain Cabin, The Treehouse, and the Pet Shop.

and this week I finally found the AT RT at the Lego store.

...still haven't put the Pet Shop together and I'm really hoping it's not missing any pieces.

With a 222 piece set missing a piece, a 2,000+ piece set has me a little worried. And it's going to be weeks until I have the time and space to unbox and assemble it.

....mostly I was really surprised how I just seemed to refuse to believe it happened. I kept looking, and looking again, and looking again,...and finally separated all the pieces by color until I was left being forced to admit it just wasn't there.

Not a huge deal, except I'd been looking for this kit for weeks, found it Tuesday, and finally got to unbox it last night.

Bag #1 went together with no problem. (and I love the little Clone Trooper,..I guess I assumed the head would be one piece, so seeing that it's a head and a tiny little helmet was a neat surprise. ..that little helmet is so cool!)

Bag #2,...step number 5. *BANG!* ..."no more Lego kit for you tonight", said the Gods of Plastic and Thunder.

Was so disappointed I just bagged it all up, ... searched Eurobricks real quick to figure out what to do,..and did the Customer Service thing on Lego.com

In their defense they made it incredibly easy to find and order the missing piece. Just sucks that I know it'll probably be 3 weeks or so until it arrives.

Were it a normal piece I'd have just grabbed one from another kit to finish the build, but it's an odd piece.

I wouldnt say its common to find missing pieces. In my entire life, of probably close to 150 or so sets, Ive missed one piece on one set, and had one damaged piece on the tower bridge set, though it was a common piece so I just replaced it. It was bent in half...

Sucks to get an incomplete set, but I dont think packing it all up and giving up fo 3 weeks is the answer. Surely it isnt such an important piece that the rest of it cant be partially built without it. If its to join two parts, then in 3 weeks you can just connect them with the missing piece.

Also, extra pieces are common. The usual is a stud or two, a cheese wedge, technic pins(if needed), droid arms(probably due to fragility), or little small parts that could be deemed very lose-able by small children.

If you think about it, its a miracle more sets done have missing pieces. In a set of even just 100 parts, you have so many chances for just one to get stuck somewhere or fall out of place.

it's not that, it's that I'm in the middle of moving, rehabbing/painting the new place, and I still have rehearsals and gigs to do and web-work to do,..so making a block of time to just sit, relax and enjoy building is a bit scarce lately,..last night was my block of time this week. Which is why it was disappointing.

No sense in building it if I can't finish it, because there's no where to put it except in the box it came in.

That's kind of become my relax thing to do, pull up a movie on Netflix and build something small (200 pieces or less)

I'm glad missing pieces aren't that common. It's really not a big deal, but it's always frustrating when you've been looking forward to something and then it just doesn't work out.

...and the AT ST has always been one of my favorite SW vehicles, so I was pretty excited to see there was an AT RT set and have been looking for it for a couple weeks.

No one seemed to have it in stock, (or the white Highway Speedster I'm also interested in.)

I have over 200 sets, from the 80's up to now, and I've never had a missing piece. There are times when I though I had something missing, but it turned out that it was stuck in the plastic bag it came in. Be sure to check those thoroughly. I usually stuff the plastic bags back into the cardboard box instead of throwing away just in case something like that happens.

be sure to contact lego, they'll send the piece to you for free

I have 100+ sets, maybe twice with a piece missing. Usually I substitute until replacement part is in. Lego has excellent service, I even once asked Lego, a year after it was discontinued, for 50 1x1 dark grey bricks for the Eiffel Tower. I had noticed some were starting to crack due to the shear weight of the thing and so I asked for a lot more to last me a lifetime. They did it and even apologised for the inconvenience.

Last piece missing was with Simpsons House. Nougat coloured 1x2 brick. Was replaced within a week. It sucks when it happens, but hardly happens. One bad experience does not mean it will happen again. And when it comes to the Petshop, I can't recall any special pieces or colour that can't be replaced even in a few years time if necessary. No worries.

Your mileage may vary. I have purchased multiple sets (200+) over the last few years since coming out of the box (my way of saying dark ages) and I've had countless missing/broken pieces. Yes, they have great customer service for a while. Eventually they must think you are scamming them and will quit sending pieces. That's what happened to me, so I quit asking.

Don't be surprised if it happens again. Definitely look everywhere to make sure you didn't miss it somewhere. I open all of my bags into a separate container so none of the pieces will roll away.

Now as a kid, I had over 500 sets and I can't say for sure if I remember any missing pieces, but back then I didn't really pay attention to stuff like that.

No I was careful about where I dumped the pieces out, (on a table), and I triple checked the bags and the floors. I ended up separating the pieces by color just to be sure that "yes, it's definitely not here."

I'm getting ready to buy 5 more modulars and I'm just hoping there's no more missing pieces in any of them.

I've put together around 40 sets since starting to collect (including several modular) and was never missing a piece until a week ago. Sad part is the set (Pet Shop) that finally had a missing piece was missing over ten pieces. Luckily, they were all common elements that I had extras of, but it was definitely a bummer.

I've been pretty lucky. No missing or broken pieces since coming out of the dark ages a few years ago. LEGO has an online form for missing/broken pieces.

TLG is really good about replacing missing parts.

While I've never had anything completely missing, when I was building my SSD two weeks ago, there were eight 2x10s missing and there were eight unused 2x12s in their place.

I contacted Lego, and had replacement parts within the week.

In Technic part of this forum it was reported sometime ago that one bag was completely missing in limited edition 41999 box. Imagine that - it is a lot of missing parts!

I got a Fire Brigade 10197 that was missing an entire sub-bag, of 102 pieces, that was shocking! That set was loaded with a lot of parts for some other set, I guess equivalent weight to the parts I really needed.

I had one part that was the wrong color, in my Town Hall set, but that one I just swapped the part with one of the right color that would be completely hidden on another part of the wall.

Just today though, I was putting together the Brick Calendar 853195 I bought and discovered I am missing the '10' brick...so until I get that, I don't get to have the 10th of the month, just a blank day ;-)~ I got a extra blank piece, so the part count was right, just not the 'right' parts!

At least its easy to get replacements, just have to wait weeks for them to arrive.
