DarkShadow73 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I am sure this question has been asked and answered, but I don't have the time to do an extensive search. After a long hiatus from buying Technic I recently picked the 42009 Crane. However, I have heard from a friend at TexLUG that the L-motor is underpowered and that the XL-motor having a lot more torque would be a better option. Is it possible to install the XL in the L's place when assembling. I haven't assembled it as of yet, so wanted to ask the experts here their opinion and if it is possible before I 'bury' the motor when putting it together since it is such a massive kit. Thanks in advance, Eric Quote
Blakbird Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I have not had any trouble with the L-motor, so I'm not sure where you got your information. The XL motor is a lot bigger and would require extensive modification of the gearbox. Quote
Misa_Kulicka Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I agree with Blakbird, L-motor works well in 42009. If you wants to do any modification go directly for Jurgens Ultimate Quote
skylinedan Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I haven't had any problems with it being under powered, seems to do just fine for me. Keep in mind the motor is in the upper structure, so if you build the lower and later find the motor is not up to your liking your only talking rebuilding the upper part like Mr B said. Oh good to see you back, hope everything is going good. Quote
TinkerBrick Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 The L-Motor provides plenty of power. An XL would be do no better. Quote
DarkShadow73 Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Alright then, thanks guys for the input. I got that info from a review on Lego S@H or an Amazon review, can't recall, but if the L is fine that's great. Thanks again. Quote
