Hey guys,

Does anyone know why Gorzan has an angry, growling face in the sets? It makes no sense as he is always happy in the show... and even in wave 2 he is frowning :(

Can anyone from LEGO comment on this? Or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

If you've noticed, the set storyline always seems to differ from the show version. I would assume that in the LoC set universe, Gorzan is always angry.

I guess so... like in the sets Rawzom is the Raven King, but in the show it is Razar...

But I am still a bit annoyed...

I agree. I love the Gorilla tribe, but Gorzan appears in a LOT of sets and always has that permanent angry face. I wish they'd just release a more neutral version, maybe with just a frown or something.

I believe, The Lego Group should create a wider range of Gorilla Tribe sets, but still we have too much of Gorzan. And in the Ultrabuild he has such an angry face... :cry_sad:

I'm going to have to go with Godtshep's answer. Kids just browsing the store that don't know all that much about the story would probably find a ferocious gorilla more "cool" than a level headed one.

It's also entirely possible that the character design in the set was created before his personality was well-established. It's normal in a lot of LEGO media for the product designs to come before the story is completely settled on.

It's hardly the only inconsistency between LEGO TV shows and the sets they're based on. In the LEGO Ninjago cartoon, Kai lacks the distinctive facial scar of the Kai minifigure, and Nya has never had the red makeup around her eyes from the original Nya minifigure (the Samurai X minifigure omitted this on its new angry expression, and the new Nya minifigure lacks it entirely). Also, Lloyd's Golden Ninja costume in the show is just that — a new costume — while in the sets his face becomes gold and the shape of his eyebrows becomes more stylized, much like the NRG minifigures from the 2012 spinner sets. Perhaps most strangely, Sensei Wu never wore his costume from the 2012 and 2013 Ninjago sets at any point in the show.
