PhyBuilder Posted August 13, 2014 Author Posted August 13, 2014 Stumbling upon a great post in the trains forum, I just had to quote it here (source topic). Someone complains about the one-part-nose in the new passenger train, calling it not lego but duplo, not reusable for other purposes, and the like. Then, the discussion starts... Personally I am sending back all my boat hulls, all large cockpits and windscreens, and most definitely the large transparent-blue panels from the space monorail. I am disappointed to learn that they are not real Lego. In fact, I feel like the emotional heart of my hobby has been ripped out. Most of all the wheels. The wheels are not brick built, especially the large technic wheels. I feel cheated. I'll take your monorail track, it's obviously too big to be actual Lego. Exactly. And these brick-built monorails prove it http://railbricks.co...monorailbricks/ So that means you have to send your monorail track to me, right? To be clear, I won't use it, as it's Not Real Lego, and I am a Very Serious AFOL. But my kids won't mind playing with it, they have this weird view that Lego is just a toy. The trees are what really bug me. The trees can't be rebuilt as anything. What's wrong with brick built trees? I swear Lego has been going downhill since they were introduced. It's new parts like this that I'm referring to: http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3470 Where's the creativity in that? Quote

grum64 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 After building the 8258 I showed it to a family friend from Jersey who I'd not seen for over a year and was staying with us for a few days. 'How long it take to make?' '22 weeks' 'Really?' 'Yes' 'But it's LEGO. What took so long?' Quote

PROlego Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 My suspension systems always work in a flawless and smooth way. I've never heard gears cracking. It's easy to do very well modelled car bodies with LEGO parts. I have never need a PF small motor. I won't use metal gears if they existed. I think the servo motor is really cheap. We don't need longer liftarms or stronger differentials. Quote

miguev Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Love this thread, many comments remind me of very-close equivalents about writing software, something I see somewhat similar to doing MOCs. Totally second "I never use teeth to dismantle", even though it's much much easier to not use teeth nowadays than 20-25 years ago. Mine for today would be: "I never check eurobricks.com when I've got more urgent things to do." (e.g. study for my A2 German exam this Saturday) Quote
