I am always perplexed when a toy that reproduces a musical instrument costs more than the entry level version of the true instrument (I can also think of the various guitar hero controllers).

Piano set isn't my thing, but I can certainly see it as a piece of art, so the 18+ here makes perfect sense.

I think the 18+ category certainly is a good direction for LEGO, I can see the IDEAS typewriter becoming an 18+ display piece as well.

Sesame Street is a very kids oriented show, so I doubt that'll be a 18+ set as that would look odd imo.

If you can find an actual working playable good sounding piano (as opposed to a keyboard or something else electric) for less than the cost of the LEGO Piano I would be very surprised.

Okay, seriously.  I’ve built the 10 largest Lego sets.  I really enjoy Lego as a hobby.  But this piano? All I can figure out is that Lego executives were sitting around, had more than a few drinks, and said ‘let’s produce this piano and see if they really will pay a lot of money and buy anything that we throw out there.’   Their options to see just what people will pay a lot of money for and give unconditional praise to were a $299 Avocado, a $400 lawn mower and this piano.  Someone also brought up Old Trafford, but they’d already released that one.

If that logo tile appears for sale on Bricks & Pieces (which it might well do given that the piano isn't a licensed set) I predict it will be VERY popular :)

Nice try, Lepin marketing manager!

As if they couldn't have also been sitting around, while completely sober, and pondering "just how deep do these star wars fan's pockets go"?

"Lets see if they'll drop the same amount as the median worldwide monthly household income... on a plastic toy for their bookcase".

I can’t believe how much hyped died after seeing the final product of the piano, and I’m probably one of the most die hard piano customers they have!

Seeing the build, the keys move in a preset unrealistic manner as your phone plays a lame version of basic piano pieces. And the keys make so much noise! For something that’s $350, I am just so disappointed.

The good news though, I can save that money and use it for Diagon Alley :)

Exactly. With all the promising sets coming out in the next few months (Diagon Alley, Mos Eisley, and, I hope it is true, the Roman Colosseum), it's hard to buy anything when all that money could be used towards a bigger set that you might like more.

The Seagull Bay Lighthouse Fortress hit 10k, and I think it would be an excellent companion to Barracuda Bay. I hope it gets approved. But it probably won’t be. I would have loved the companions/follow-ups to the Old Fishing Shop too, but those weren’t made. Won’t get my hopes up for Seagull Bay.

I’m not so sure the hype died, it sold out here in the States in 15 minutes.

So what you're saying is the Ideas team showed good judgement in approving a creation that clearly a lot of people like?

Indeed. Remarkable business strategy.

There are now 25 product ideas in the Second 2020 LEGO Review batch, with about four weeks left before the batch closes. ?

Make that 26! This batch has now tied the previous one for the record, and with weeks to go before it closes. I think it’s safe to predict it’ll reach 30. Could it reach 40?!

Depends, how many shows can you think of?

Yes I’m still salty

I think it’s about time they do some changes to the LEGO Ideas system. I don’t believe they can effectively handle that many projects.

Increasing the number of supporters required to get a set in the review stage would be the most natural thing to do right now.

Though that's also a fine line to cross, because there will always be the middle class of projects that gets to 1k or 5k quickly and then languishes for a year or so, while getting buried in the avalanche of new projects.

I wonder if Ideas is like winning the lottery, there's only a certain chance and luck has something to do with it. (No matter how much people emphasize promotion and "if the idea is good enough people will go for it" you can't just spam your way across the internet and get people to care that way! Or maybe you can. I wouldn't know, I've never died)

I'd like to see IDEAS to be split in a Licensed and Unlicensed section, maybe that's some way to cope with the amount of 10k.

Also would be more clear on figure colors, as I still see non-licensed submissions using fleshies, which might keep some voters away, from traditional themed ideas (Space/Castle/Pirates etc) , even if LEGO can change the final design.

This is a pretty good idea actually. It would certainly be a useful filter to be able to find original content as opposed to licensed sets.

I fear that if the number of required votes was increased, then only the subjects with the largest and most vocal fanbases would ever be able to achieve support in the available time. This would move Lego Ideas away from its initial concept of creating new and unusual Lego sets, to a popularity contest where whatever has the most fans gets a set made. Lego Ideas has already been criticised for being dominated by space-themed models, licenses, and (more recently) sitcoms, and I think we would drift to seeing even more of these as opposed to models like grand pianos or typewriters.

Lego Ideas doesn't need you to have a good project submission, just a well-defined concept and the ability to run a good social media campaign.

I'm pretty sure you can already filter it that way.  There's not a big button inviting it, but it's one of the filter options.

Nice, I never spotted that filter before!
