Avatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora reaches 10k supporters!

Heh, kinda amusing that projects based upon James Cameron's Avatar and Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender should both make the same review...

Huh, I don't believe a submission based upon a Ghibli film has ever achieved support? :shrug_confused: Should be interesting to see how it'll fare in review.

Honestly didn't think it would make it either... I think there's some projects that have a better chance than Spirited Away...

But sometimes Ideas results are unpredictable... only time will tell.

Per https://www.brickfanatics.com/first-images-of-lego-ideas-92176-nasa-apollo-saturn-v/ it looks like the Saturn V Rocket is basically unchanged from the original except the set number (still printed parts, still the same design etc)

I think the only reason why it got a new number is that it was a retired set, other than that it should be identical to the original :shrug_oh_well:

It turns out not to be identical. When building the lander, they have made a small modification by using a 2x4 technic plate instead of a 2x4 plate.

There's a world map rumour for Art 2020 - wondering if that and the Earth Globe will look good next to each other....

I feel like the globe has got a lot of hate, but I rather like it.

If there is, it will be a "no interest" from me. If I want a world map on my wall, I'd prefer an accurate one (that costs a fraction of the price). I like displaying LEGO as a toy but not when it is a poor copy of a real world object. Sometimes there is a fine line, especially for the art series (I used to make a lot of mosaics) but a map goes beyond it for me.

I don't think there was a problem with the globe... but many people were disappointed that only one project was chosen...

The Brick Fan - LEGO Ideas Jumanji of 1995 Achieves 10,000 Supporters

Quote

The Jumanji of 1995 by NIKANA is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The build is based on Alan’s house from the hit Robin Williams movie. The house seems to be a normal one and each room shows a memorable scene but it is able to open up in the middle to recreate the final scene from the movie. It also proposes seven minifigures as well.

The project now joins the Boeing 737 Passenger PlaneColosseum (Architecture Style)Gravity Falls: The Mystery ShackBrick Town Police StationRed Dwarf Starbug Avatar: The Last Airbender – YIP YIP!Classic CastleOpen MRIMotorized LighthouseAvatar: The Illuminated World of Pandora, and Spirited Away as the ones that have reached the Third 2020 Review Stage.

The Little Venice achieves 10000 supporters!

Hands down favourite of all the recent “building/architecture” 10k projects (alas RIP Krusty Krab).

Will this go up into the next review round, alongside the Night at the Museum submission?

Auto Union Type C Racecar achieves 9993 supporters... guess I could say congrats already...

Given the Audi license in Speed Champions, this must be a dead cert to pass review.

The fact that they already have a relationship with Audi and VAG makes it less likely that it will get approved IMO.

Look at all the real-world-car ideas that made it to 10k and got rejected (the only one they approved was the Caterham)

If anything, something like the E-Type Jag they rejected previously would have been a much bigger seller (quite a few lists of the "most beautiful cars in the world" put the E-Type at #1 for example)

Why does it make it less likely if there is already an established relationship? The theme’s rules if you can call them that, are by TLG’s own admission, constantly evolving so I don’t think you can look at the past for future predictions. Also this is vintage AU and technically not Audi.

The Caterham was hardly an iconic or beautiful car, and from what I’ve heard sold poorly even for an IDEAS set so that may explain the reluctance to approve niche cars. But then we’ve since seen iconic non-IDEAS sets like the VW bus, Routemaster, DB5, Fiat 500, so it’s not that unlikely IMO especially as can’t imagine LEGO already have a Auto Union Type C on the drawing board.

As for the E-Type, hard to do it justice in brick form, but regardless I’d much prefer to see a 300SL Gullwing if we’re going down that route.

If you look at the vehicles that have been released to date in the Creator Expert line (VW Bus, VW Beetle, Mini, Ferrari F-40, London Bus, DB5, Mustang, Harley, Fiat 500) they are a LOT more well known among people who aren't hardcore car/race fans (or at least recognized as a car even if people don't know exactly what they are looking at) than an Auto Union Type C (Heck, I know a lot about cars and even I don't really know what an Auto Union Type C is other than that its some sort of old race car made by a company who later became part of Audi and I certainly have zero interest in owning a LEGO model of one).

I think quite a few of the cars that got to 10k and got rejected (Corvette, E-Type Jag, Jeep Wrangler in particular) are far more well known than the Auto Union Type C (or the Caterham for that matter)

Sadly I have to agree when you’ve argued it like that. Cars seem to be that way. Then again, clutching at straws, LEGO are into the whole retro (typewriter, globe, piano) vibe right now so who knows.

Like you I’m not an expert on the details of the Type C (the occasional awareness whilst waiting at Audi service) but I happen to think it’s a really cool looking old race car that lends itself to being accurately recreated in brick form (unlike say the DB5). The largely monochromatic colour scheme is another plus.

Looking through all the previous Ideas sets (as well as the ones we know are coming), I can lump them into four distinct categories: Science (mostly space exploration, but with some paleontology and ornithology thrown in as well), Pop Culture (mostly of a nostalgic bent, but with some more current stuff as well), Objects like the Maze and Pop-Up Book, and what I would call Neo-Classic (sets that broadly fit into classic LEGO themes, but with a much more advanced level of detail - I see the Treehouse and Old Fishing Store as belonging to this category, along with the more obvious ones like the Exo Suit, Pirates of Barracuda Bay, and forthcoming Medieval Blacksmith). The Caterham is the only outlier in this taxonomy, so it's difficult to gauge how another car model might fare in review.

Incidentally, I'm curious if others have similar mental categories for LEGO Ideas sets, or other patterns you see.

Genius automated garbage truck has 3 more votes to go at the moment I'm writing this post. Supported this set a long time ago and was rooting for it. I just love it's simplicity and complexity at the same time. The only problem I see is that review board might think it's too close to something they can do themselves in their city or creator lines...

Achieved support, of course...

I feel like it got soooooooo much support after JK Brickworks made a video about it.
