I'm still waiting for the tin foil hat storage facility modular. Half of it could be a LEGO designer's office where it is just someone with a 2x2 tile depicting a computer open on the IDEAS webpage with the upper rooms being full of cash. The other half could include lots of small rooms, each with someone sitting at a computer again with a 2x2 tile depicting an internet chat room and the occupant would be wearing a chromed hat. The upper section could be full of more chromed hats.

These sets are nothing like each other, other than the subject is a submarine. If being the same subject is a barrier to making a similar subject again then in the 1970s, I built a car, a train, a truck, a house, a shop, a train station, a rocket, a space ship, ...

A reveal right now would probably be a little early but I assume we'll see one later this month.

Are you talking about revealing the final design of an already-approved set, or announcing the winner of the first 2023 batch currently in review? If the latter, I assume it's just due to the sheer quantity of projects - 71 are in that batch, easily a new record.

OK, besides the the article being pretty cool, whoever did the webpage incorporated a feature I've never seen before: scrolling sideways! Using a mouse to scroll down the page, you come to a series of pictures and instead of the page continuing to scroll downwards, it scrolls to the right to view the pics, then when the last pic is viewed, it continues to scroll downward again until the next series of pics, at which time it scrolls sideways again. Very cool effect!!!

Alright, here are my bets. These are almost all really good builds, but I think only a couple have a chance. I am, however, prepared to be wrong. 

 

1. Seems unlikely unless they have the rights.

2. Unusual design, and extremely neat, but I'd bet against it.

3. Too similar to the recent Friends botanical garden.

4. Seems niche and potentially controversial?

5. Seems unlikely with multiple Stargate sets on the line.

6. Possible, but I'd bank against it on being niche.

7. See one.

8. See five.

9. Too similar to recent sets, and probably a little too big in dimensions, even if not pieces.

10. Too similar to modulars and big.

11. Possible, but probably too similar to modulars. Might be BL though?

12. Doubt they'd reject one Shrek and keep the other.

13. Probably too big piece wise.

14. Ditto as 13.

15. See 12.

16. Wouldn't be shocked. They obviously have something worked out with NBC, plus they might require sitcoms to get in multiple times like the Office.

17. Probably a bit too complex.

18. See 10.

19. Too big.

20. See 1.

21. See 1.

22. See 10.

23. No clue how to bet on this one. I'd vote that they probably don't make it, but it might be a wild card.

24. Seems unlikely--I don't know how much power Twilight has anymore.

25. Seems unlikely after just releasing another train.

26. I'd bet it's rejected and ends up on the designer program.

27. See 1.

28. See 1, and they usually reject games.

29. I don't know on this one. It seems like it must break the IP rules somehow, but I cannot be sure.

30. Probably requires rights and is too niche.

31. Probably rejected. I'd bank on this if it were part of a competition for a GWP, but I doubt it gets in here.

32. See 1.

33. See 10.

34. Possible. I kind of doubt it, but they did do ET already, and if they did anything else, it seems like it would be this. It also hits the nostalgia factor pretty well.

35. Possible.

36. I'd bet on this. It's a really goofy but neat way to do an iconic painting, plus they might want to replace Starry Night in a few years.

37. Probably too small, actually.

38. Too similar to the new creator set.

39. See 1.

40. Probably too big. 

41. Maybe. I don't know much about Bluey, but it seems popular and family friendly.

42. Unlikely. Naruto usually gets rejected, and although maybe they'll pull an Office, Lego is probably hesitant to come back to anime after the AtLA sets.

43. Probably too big.

44. Seems possible, honestly, but I don't know enough about Bonkles to say for sure.

45. Probably too obscure for an international audience.

46. Too big.

47. Possible, but I don't know if it will hit the same nostalgia buttons as some of the other brick built objects do.

48. I don't know, I've never seen Wednesday. Isn't it fairly dark?

49. Depends on rights, and I also just don't know if Narnia is going to translate well to a mass produceable set.

50. I don't know. Isn't the creator pretty careful about sharing the IP?

51. Possibly in a few years, but IIRC this is the first Parks and Rec for a while, and they might want to run it through a couple times to see if it has a big enough fanbase.

52. Probably too detailed.

53. See 1, and I don't know if they'd accept a licensed set with yellow figs.

54. Seems unlikely. With the movie, I don't know if I'd call it niche, but Lego seems averse to Olympic sets.

55. Probably too big.

56. Seems unlikely.

57. Ditto, but apparently this is a pretty big group, so I may be way off. 

58. Probably too similar in idea to other sets recently released.

59. Same as 48.
60. Don't know, depends on if the demand is high enough, which I can't say.

61. Too similar to other recently released third party products.

62. Wouldn't be entirely caught off guard, but seems unlikely.

63. Isn't there already an ideas Taylor Swift set in production? I may be wrong, but probably too similar to that.

64. See 10.

65. Maybe. Hits on nostalgia and Christmas, so might be a spiritual successor to Home Alone.

66. Probably not, seeing as Lego typically does their own coasters.

67. Don't know the property at all, so can't say.

68. Too big, probably.

69. Maybe, but does not hit on nostalgia like the telephone.

70. Seems unlikely.

71. Possible.

As I stated on Brickset, I would love to see the following:

5 or 8, 25, 59, 70

Stargate or Stargate, Virginia and Truckee loco, and Adams Family (for the umpteenth time), and Shrimp boat. (Because I want to make an Andrea Gail swordfish boat from the film the Perfect Storm / real life events of that night, and this is a good starting point)

There are so many nice ones, and others that are great ideas, although only a small number will be considered. Ignoring the reality of whether they will get made or not, my favourites are:

3. The Botanical Garden - would be so lovely, although the recent Friends set, and the ability to combined two together very easily makes this a little less desirable.

9. Medieval Seaside Market - would be great to add to the civilian population of castle stuff, but it might make more sense as a pirates set?

10. Brick Boulevard - it's not going to happen, but Bricky_Bricks does such interesting and varied modulars.

14. Humpback Whale - this is such a lovely style, but it would be huge and expensive to get this level of detail.

22. Claus Toys - as before with Bricky_Bricks in #10.

25. V&TRR #12 Genoa - lovely looking train, and would be great to get a varied locomotive to go with Orient Express. Is this the locomotive used in Back to the Future too? Ripe for mods that would be fun.

59. The Addams Family - not a huge fan of the model presented, but LEGO would change it anyway, and the source material could make a great set.

67. Eda's Owl House - I don't know the source material, but it's such a lovely design.

68. Wizard's Hut - Another beautifully executed design.

Not gonna bother trying to place bets as to what'll actually be chosen or what's more likely. However, my top hopes would be the Hollow Knight one, the Owl House, and the Toa Head statue. And while they aren't as clearly targeted toward my interests, there's a lot of gorgeous builds in this group like the ET poster, the moon poster, and the Godzilla project.

My guess would be that it will be either Brooklyn 99, E.T., the Owl House, or the Sea Turtle. Last one would actually be my favourite ( well aside from Star Gate, but that is just not gonna happen)

I have given up on trying to guess what will pass since I am so often surprised, but my personal preferences would be the coffee shop, The Scream, Lover House, and Elf, maybe Parks & Rec. I might want the Dr. Seuss one if it could be done in a way that actually folds everything up into the books.

It's such a shame that the Bricklink Designer program can't take on licensed projects. For obvious reasons, but it's still a shame. They are, as you say, gorgeous builds.

Stargate Sets are already produced by bluebrixx, I don`t see a chance for Lego.

And for the fans: buy them on bluebrixx.^^

 

For the poll: I don`t see many sets that could pass, then again, after the horrendously bad Orient Express, there is no big demand on my side.

Okay... The Botanical Gardens set is one I get. The Friends set with the same theme was pretty well received even by people who aren't in to Friends, and that set could very well retire, or be close to retiring, by the time the Ideas model gets produced. Maybe not my first pick, but I still respect it, even though it feels slight more Bricklink Designer Program level of niche, and might struggle a bit as a $300 retail set. I could be wrong, though. Probably going to be out of my price range either way,, but I still respect and understand this pick.

Twilight though?! That has got to be from the same creative minds that chose the BTS set. I mean, what kind of cultural relevance does Twilight still have? Maybe they think that people who grew up with those books are now in AFOL-age territory, and would be nostalgic and want the set? I don't have any stake in it - I think I read the books back in grade school and didn't think much of them - but I feel like pop culture has make it sound like Twilight is just a collective phase everyone went through a decade ago. Seuss, Shrek, Narnia, or Bluey would have been much better "pop culture" choices. Bizarre choice, and I think it will be, at most, a parts back for most AFOLs, since I don't even know how impressive the build will be unless you really want that style of a modern home. There were far better choices in that wave, but Lego Ideas has been making odd choices for awhile now. Too bad those licensed ones won't be in the Bricklink Designer Program - any of those four would have been much better picks.

I really do like the Botanical Gardens. I built @Berthil's excellent one from Rebrickable, and now have the Friends one ready to be done, so not sure I need a third. I'm sure it will be lovely, but will they do a two baseplate modular for $300+ in Ideas? And why this modular compared to others that feel more varied?

The nice thing is that both models chosen are really well executed by the original designer. I appreciate that a lot. Even if they get ripped apart by LEGO, knowing the original designer has creativity and technical skill is nice.

LEGO probably trying to double dip on such decisions, one hand they don't want to do regular Modular buildings via IDEAS , on other hand, those building type of sets still appeal to a wider audience then just Twilight, Hocus Pocus, etc.

LEGO IDEAS Blacksmith was succesful, so probably influenced the Sanderson House decision , despite being an IP, and with this Twilight House, they might try to appeal to the architectural style of the build as well to a wider group of customers (part of which might think the €200 Friends mansion is still too colorful/toyish/girlish whatever, or just won't buy it because "minidolls" are in it.)

"Generic", non IP builds seem to be moving more and more to the Designer Program, altho the botanical set is not licensed either.

Also, the Friends botanical garden might be near retirement by the time this releases.

 

Still anticipating the reveal of the Dungeons and Dragons set, seems to take a while.

So many many wonderful projects they could have picked and we get what? A set that Friends basically did already (great set, I own it, but we definitely don't need another one IMO) and a set based on a stupid vampire movie series. (and one who's target audience is not exactly the prime target audience for either toy products or adult-targeted collector products...)

Why not something like Bluey (one of the most popular shows for little kids right now)? Or the moon poster (to go with the whole Space thing they are doing this year)

Although its entirely possible there are IPs on the list they tried to get a license for but couldn't (for example Moose Toys may have an exclusive license for Bluey toys)

As soon as I heard there will be a Twiilght set, my thought went “Uhh, what did I just read? Reallly?”. I mean, it’s an interesting choice Lego has… but I’m not sure if it would appeal to certain targets?

Probably young adults/teenaers?
