Dorayaki Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) Just back from work these days.... first, the ones with existed licenses are excluded, and one common problem for these projects is that they are just too huge, so I don't expect them to pass. The only one that I think it could pass and interest common consumers is the Piano project. It has no licensing issue and is also close to the Ideas projects catalogue. If I have to find a reason, well, piano sets do appear in some of the official LEGO lines so TLG might worry that it conflicts with Friends or Creator. But in general, its still a shame that the review doesn't give two at once. I still congratulate the Maze being the very first project that doesn't based on characters, vehicles or animals, but playability. Edited May 31, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
Man with a hat Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 NICE!!! I think this choice is perfect. I was already hoping for it. And I understand pefectly why all the other projects got rejected. Some are simply too complex and/or fragile and on the other hand they still need to sell it. The labyrinth marble maze, I think, is ingenious yet not too complex and not too fragile. Also I think it does appeal to a lot of people. Ok maybe just not the hardcore AFOLS only interested in sets that are more complex/detailed/fragile than regular LEGO sets, but they remember that they are not the only ones buying these sets. Quote
Back to the Brick Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Congrats touthomme! And don't worry, you'll we never be able to please everyone. Stick with your own ideas and submit and share them. If it has success it's good , if it doesn't work but you're happy with it it's still good! Quote

The designer decided to sell this through bricklink MOC shop and listed it at bricklink's cuusoo brick site. https://cuusoo.com/projects/4240 That is probably a big reason behind why it didn't pass. SandMirror38 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Not my project but this is very cool, would love to see this happen everyone should support it! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/103870 Quote

As I know, if that's a codified rule, that's not about even passing, but should be violating so that the project could be deleted in the first place? Not very sure if that really affects. NICE!!! Well, not saying that I expect all projects to achive, there is only "reasonable" decision but not "perfect" outcome. The word perfect may be used when most voters' dream are fulfilled and feel happy about this. Edited June 1, 2015 by Dorayaki Quote
MAB Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 As I know, if that's a codified rule, that's not about even passing, but should be violating so that the project could be deleted in the first place? Not very sure if that really affects. BL cuusoo started mid December, and the piano reached 10,000 end of December. I cannot remember the exact date that the deisgner decide to try to sell the piano through the BL cuusoo platform, it would have been close and probably soon after the goal was reached on ideas. It would have been strange for lego to delete the project once it was announced to be in the review. Probably easier to just not pass it. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Thanks for all the congratulatory messages! I have to say I was just as surprised as everyone else. I mean, let's be honest, most people find the original wooden version to be a very annoying and frustrating game, so I definitely see this set having limited appeal. Some people are really excited about it though, which is really cool! I mean, it did get 10,000 supporters on Ideas, so obviously some people are interested in it. :) I fully expect it to be labeled the 'worst Ideas set ever' by a lot of people, and definitely won't be flying off the shelves (just go read the comments on the Facebook announcement to see the overwhelming disappointment). But I'm actually really impressed that LEGO decided to give such a niche project the green light. It gives me hope that we might see more special interest projects coming out of Ideas in the future. Anyway, I'm obviously super excited that they chose it, and I can't wait to see what they end up doing with it! J Well, I for one am looking forward to it. I supported this project (and your other projects, BTW - I love all your highly-functional creations), and I certainly plan to purchase it. While I did also support most of the other projects in its review batch, your maze was possibly my favorite, and I always thought it was in at least the top two contenders out of this batch. And hey, obviously at least 9998 other people felt it was worthwhile, too! Congratulations, and well-done. Quote
jonwil Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I love the idea of the maze, it looks like it would be fun to build and even more fun to play with. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Meanwhile, from the "funky Ideas coincidences" department, not one but two separate Thunderbird 4 projects by different builders got posted this same morning, within hours or even mere minutes of each other. Hey, it happened again - this time, two separate projects based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure were posted within hours of each other, submitted by different people. just2good Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Hey, it happened again - this time, two separate projects based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure were posted within hours of each other, submitted by different people. I think this happens because one posts the project, and then the other sees that the person has their idea and tries to get the one they were holding off on posting up as soon as possible. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Possibly, and I did think of that, but I thought all the projects were briefly held for approval before posting (so that no one gets to post stuff that's indecent or otherwise totally unacceptable), rather than showing up as soon as they're submitted, which is why they tend to show up in groups of several projects, all clumped together on the site at once (and also don't get posted on weekends). As far as I can tell, these two are both part of a large group of projects all posted together, or pretty close together, and if the second were posted after its creator saw the first one, it would have to have been done very quickly afterwards. MAB Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Or they both saw this two weeks ago and though "I can do better" https://ideas.lego.com/projects/103214 Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Or they both saw this two weeks ago and though "I can do better" https://ideas.lego.com/projects/103214 That's certainly possible, but it's still funny that they'd do it at the same time. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Reminds me of high school where each student had to do a science project, and the person who presents their project right before you has come up with the same thing. Not a good feeling.... Bill and Ted? I kind of remember the movies, but would seriously doubt they are popular enough to warrant a set. The telephone booth reminds me too much of Dr. Who. Quote
tafkatb Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 So... the Ecto-1 seems to have completely disappeared from the S@H site? Quote
MAB Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 In some countries it is still available for below RRP. For example, £35 from ASDA in UK. Quote
tafkatb Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I just find it weird that it's not still there with a "sold out" tag, it's just gone completely. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Huh, that's strange. It's been just over a year since it was released, so I guess it makes sense that it might be retired, but I'd have expected it to be around at least as long as the DeLorean time machine. Also, there doesn't appear to be even the "sold out" listing we could expect to see for a few months - it's just... gone. I'm guessing it's just a temporary glitch or something, and will be back soon. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 They should still have the Eco for sale--at least in stores. I just bought one from a Lego Store (in Wauwatosa) two weeks ago or so. They had a decent amount present. Interestingly enough, the store must have had 70 or so (being serious) Exo-Suits on the shelves. I think I read somewhere else on Eurobricks the fear of that set being gone...that doesn't seem to be the case, at least depending on location. Quote
tafkatb Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Oh, I know it's still in stores too - mainly just pointing out the oddity of its complete disappearance without so much as a "sold out" or "retired" tag on it. Especially since there's still a picture of one of the figures on the Ideas button of the Themes page. Quote
dr_spock Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Perhaps they are not planning to sell it online any longer and stores will sell through whatever inventory they have on hand. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Could this have something to do with the license? If the license expires, then Lego can no longer sell the product. Quote
tafkatb Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Well the license certainly didn't expire, considering there's more Ghostbusters stuff on the way... Quote
Artanis I Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I only recently saw the pics for the Big Bang set, and I think it's very curious that TLG has actually gone with 7 minifigs in such a small set. I thought they'd just do 4 or 5. I think it sends an interesting message for future Ideas submissions! Quote
