Artanis I Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Blue Midget is great but should be Starbug instead, and the scutter is too big. Duane Dibbley (with Thermos!) and Ace Rimmer (with smoked kipper!) are great inclusions. Ace & Arnold should be fleshies. I supported this very early but don't think it will be approved, the fanbase isn't as big as other licenced properties that have been produced. This submission got to the time extensions very quickly, but slowed down quite a bit after that. My sister is a big fan, and the family often quotes the show so if it's approved I'd get one for her too. But I don't expect it. Quote
dr_spock Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I think a Starbug would be better. I don't recall Blue Midget. Quote

Blue Midget is in it a little but it's incomparable to Starbug. It's a pity that the focus of this otherwise well done project is not what most Red Dwarf fans' first or second choice would be. And as Artanis I said, the scutter is way out of proportion, it should be closer to mouse droid size. Edited November 10, 2016 by Hewman Put my text inside the quote Quote

They made a few appearances in Series II & III and then from VIII onwards, while the crew were on Red Dwarf rather than Starbug. Quote

sheo Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Hi guys, I have a small question: is it OK to share instructions for a model from an Ideas project, and how it may affect the project? Quote

I'd look at the Ideas Terms of Service for answers to questions like that, or ask them directly using the contact info on the site, but it appears to me it's perfectly fine as long as you don't do it for money. The terms are quite clear that you're not allowed to sell instructions for a project and still have it as a project on Ideas, so if you're thinking about creating something and either submitting it to Ideas or selling instructions for it, you have to choose which one you'd rather do, since you can't do both. But as far as I can tell, if you want to offer instructions for an Ideas project as a free download, it looks like that's all hunky dory. Quote

It would certainly be easier than having to pay their employees to reverse engineer the model from pictures. Would that go against your chances in making pass the review process, if a LEGO competitor has already released an identical model? Quote

Although my project is far from being popular, those guys are unpredictable. I'd rather wait until this threat is completely eliminated. Quote

Another Brick In The Wall Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Totally in love with Modular Autumn Park, designed by fellow Eurobricker, wetwired (of Echo-1 and Stay-Puft fame). lightningtiger Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 I'm losing faith in Ideas, pouring time and worse lots of money into projects for no return, not even for a hundred supports in 60 days. Funny very few projects reach that mark, about one in hundred, my gut feeling is LEGO will shut it down one day as they will have grabbed enough ideas for themselves. Lucky for me I build for my pleasure not for profit so I'm happy to have my own modulars, etc., in my collection proud of what I have achieved. Quote

Actually I am rather astonished at the breadth of those projects that do clear the 100 vote threshold, often quite quickly. I think the number is likely a bit better than 1 in 100. Just looking at the past week it would seem that those recent projects that have, or clearly look to be well on a path to 100 in 60 days are more often than not, not licensed IP, are rather varied and interesting subjects and are well presented with a good pop of color and an attractive thumbnail to draw the eye. You do make some valid points, but I'm on there more than EB so I see and also chat to other designers who feel the same. Resubmitting a project is almost a waste of time, as it hardy regains half of it's previous votes - might be fairer if the old votes carried over as long the members are still valid/active. So far in the last three days only one project has rocketed just over a hundred from it's posting date but where will it be in two weeks. I have discovered that if you don't reach a hundred in under five days you are toast. On top of that you have the challenge than of another 900 in 1 year, we must be realistic with Ideas that less than 1% off ideas will even make it to 10000 yet alone been made into a set. Though it is odd to see the number of themes Ideas have brought us especially through the Dimensions gaming platform remember Portals ? It made 10000 and turn down by Lego Ideas team yet become part of the first wave of Dimension game pieces, by the looks Red Dwarf has headed the same way. Cuusoo and now Ideas have been running for a long time so projects posted say three years hmm, I wonder where they might end up. I don't quit, I'll keep posting fresh projects on Ideas and my luck as well as many of my friends I have there might change for the better......so Brick On everyone ! Quote
Sven F Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 The chances overall are slim on average for a project to reach support, but from the few that end up in the 10000 club, the majority are still not ideas material. There is this misconception that a really good moc makes a great set, yet it does not. I find that most projects, although great looking, aren't thought through with being an actual set. I can't quite put a finger on it and say "this is what's wrong", but I can see when a project is doomed no matter how much support it gains. Quote
