To this day, the LEGO Ideas process still confuses me at times. They definitely have their marketing down, but some of their decisions can be a bit...interesting to understand. I wonder how LEGO itself figures out set designs, because there are a couple products out, not even from the Ideas line but from other LEGO product lines, that would never have made it through the Ideas process lol.

The way he did the Dino addition is amazing!  I would have never thought of that.  Anyway, this is going to be a very strong contender.

It's pretty cool, but I would actually hope for a molded character like Scooby Doo.  Maybe if they go the Doctor Who route and bring the IP to Dimensions first...

Rumor has it that Dimensions is winding down, but they actually did include a hidden area in the game that has the Flintstone's house.  You need a TARDIS to access it.  The house and car are there, but not the characters.  I do not think they would make a mold for Dino since IDEAS sets are supposed to use only preexisting molds.

LEGO can introduce new elements (new molds) in Ideas sets if it chooses to do so. We can't submit projects that require them, that's all. If LEGO decides the best solution for the final set version of an approved Ideas project is a new piece rather than whatever the project creator used, they can go ahead and do that, but we as project creators can't submit projects that explicitly call for new elements.

That said, there has never been an element mold that debuted in an Ideas set so far (a couple pieces that appeared in both the Doctor Who Ideas set and the Doctor Who Level Pack for LEGO Dimensions are as close as they've come, but the Level Pack was still released a few weeks before the Ideas set), and I don't think it's likely to ever happen, but it's possible.

I was talking about physical Dimensions sets, but yes I've seen the Flintstone's area.

Indeed, the Doctor Who Dimensions set brought us the sonic screwdriver before it was used in the Ideas set.  Anyways, this is just about my preference for a molded Dino character (something like the Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time Dimensions sets, or Scooby Doo).  If they go with something similar to the Ideas project, it would still be nice.

Why is Ideas such an odd fish?

You mean in terms of the requirements on it being stricter than on actual internally-produced sets? It's largely because of the low production volume of Ideas sets. Ideas sets have much smaller initial production runs than your typical sets, a necessity given the brief turnaround time between approval and release (even though it may seem like ages to us, it's much quicker than the multi-year development cycles of your average themes). Since Lego has to fit Ideas sets into an already packed production schedule, they simply can't produce as many of them at a time, and because of that it'd be much harder to recuperate the high cost of a new mold.

Haha it's great to see some activity here already merely 1 hour after the teaser got released. :D

I'm happy that you like the model or at least what's visible of it right now. ;)

And it's great to see the project creator checking in here! Congrats again on your awesome Ideas accomplishment. It's well-earned.

So looking at the promo teaser, I'm convinced we'll see mini models of the lunar and command modules as well as a modular build so we can see each 'stage' of the rocket. Anyone know if we're getting figures of Armstrong, Aldrin, or Collins?

No confirmation of that yet, though many of us fully expect minifigures of the Apollo 11 crew.

I heard there will be a Silent minifigure.

....

Wait, why did I type the word 'Silent'?

Who's being silent?

Why have I got tally marks on my arm?

I would buy the light cycle in a heartbeat if it got made into a set.

The problem for that set is that TRON isn't exactly the most popular IP so it may be judged as "not popular enough" to be viable as a set.
