x105Black Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 That's a really well done light cycle. I'd definitely buy it. Quote
dulsi Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I'd buy this Tron Light Cycle but I'd rather have one with moving wheels. It would also require me to build the Recognizer. Quote

Kjellevirus Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Very good to hear. That will make it much easier to find other projects. Quote

That will narrow down the field significantly. There have been some great Star Wars, Marvel, DC. etc projects that unfortunately had no chance of passing review Quote

It's about time they came out and said this. It was pretty obvious projects based on licenses LEGO already does were never going to pass review. I was just coming here to post about that. Drat. So much for those Star Wars projects I've been planning but never got around to submitting. Currently active ones get to stay, though: Quote Why are you leaving existing projects active instead of archiving them? In some cases, when we introduce new Guidelines we’ve archived affected projects. In this case, we’ve found many Ideas projects reference active third-party IP. Quite a few of these projects include sub-brands, spin offs, and extended universes from our licenses. In order to archive these projects, we would first need to review and decide on each one. Instead, we will evaluate and apply the Guideline to new project submissions going forward. Projects currently being reviewed, as well as active projects that reach 10,000 supporters in the future, will still be evaluated as part of the LEGO Review. Just like before, these projects would have a slimmer chance of passing the LEGO Ideas review, as they overlap with existing licenses in the LEGO product portfolio. Also, licenses LEGO has had in the past but which aren't currently active (e.g., Indiana Jones, Avatar: The Last Airbender, etc.) can stay, and projects from any currently active license will be accepted again if that license becomes inactive (so, if LEGO ever discontinues Star Wars and some competing toy company doesn't pick up the construction rights, they'll accept Star Wars submissions again). This doesn't apply to licenses originally obtained through CUUSOO / Ideas, though, which are permanently off the table (so, no Adventure Time, Doctor Who, etc.), or at least unless and until there's another rules change reversing this. There's a list of all affected properties here. Quote
AyliffeMakit Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 So instead of outright not allowing bad projects with little-to-no effort put into them onto Ideas, they've just made it so that you can't submit projects from IPs TLG currently has. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Quote

I like the rule but wish there was a better way to implement it. Specially I'd like them to allow innovative creations that they couldn't come up with but I don't see anyway they could make that exception. I'm thinking things like the rolling BB-8 or Millennium Falcon Falcon. The problem of course is that Lego could be working on something like that so there is no clear rule that could be created. Also this rule prevents Masters of Universe/DC (or other) crossover creations which Lego might not be considering but maybe would if they knew of the interest. (Yes I know that wouldn't happen since Mattel owns megablocks.) Quote
Elysiumfountain Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Thank goodness all my projects are originals! lol Quote
StarWars8Spoiler Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 So already they're not enforcing their new rule. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/172159 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/171614 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/172090 https://ideas.lego.com/projects/172101 All these were approved today, despite the supposed "no existing IPs." Think about it for a second. Those projects were probably submitted a day or two ago for review, at which point there was no rule against submissions from existing IP. If they reject them because of a new rule that went into effect after the creators turned it over to them, wouldn't it be unfair to reject their projects? This is in light of the allowance that existing projects get to remain. If everything was being archived, it wouldn't matter. Quote
goalieboy82 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 isn't Cinderella and Aladdin ok (since they are Public Domain stories). i know you must mean the Disney versions. Quote

The operative word here is "active." So, for example, all Tolkien projects are still good to go. Quote

I hadn't considered that an option. So I checked this list posted by Blondie-Wan... 9 hours ago, Blondie-Wan said: There's a list of all affected properties here. Lord of the Rings is included on the list, but the Hobbit is not. So, unfortunately all of the projects using Gondor soldiers are not eligible, but there is still something from Tolkien's world that we can use. Quote
XAxles Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Hooh. Lots of car brands. Now I REALLY wonder if TLG has a UCS Audi R10 TDI and McLaren MP4/4 in the pipeline. Quote
Robert8 Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 That list is odd Cinderella and Moana appear listed but not the Little Mermaid. Same with Sleeping Beauty The characters from the Disney CMFs are apparently excluded like Mr Incredible or Stitch Also, it says Rapunzel. The Disney film is called "Tangled". Does that mean that the other characters from Tangled are allowed? I don't think so... Some LEGO Dimensions licenses are missing, like Powerpuff Girls, The Goonies, Scooby Doo, Jurasic World, and Beetlejuice. Also, not projects based on The LEGO Movie? One might think they would want to produce more sets of TLM to milk it a little bit more while the sequel comes. Also, they already have the molds they would need, so why not? This one is weird. I like the new rule, because it will stop the superheroes/Star Wars nonsense, but I think these things should be clarified Quote

It's probably some timing thing. The gate keepers probably didn't get the office memo in time. No worries. They can still reject them if they ever get 10,000 votes and enter the LEGO Review stage.
