rob-cubed Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I have to admit I wasn't real excited for this set after hearing rumors, but it's got a lot of neat details. The way the ride folds is exceptionally clever. I can't believe there's not a single turkey leg present! Quote
Legogal Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The video is great because it explains how this set works. I can imagine that folks who love fairs will enjoy playing with this set. It looks perfect that everything fits on the trucks rolling in to town. And the playability should be high with so much going on. And yes, we adults do play with our LEGO, so the 16+ rating does not mean that a set does not have to be worth playing with by adults. (Have you ever watched train theme devotees play with their trains for days on end?) The cast of minifigs is outstanding because it takes so many folks to make a fair work. Add another 50 people from your collection, and you have a big crowd. Nice to see so many characters in one set, and the new gray hair is fantastic! The larger truck size is more realistic and fits the load. Not every set is meant to appeal to every AFOL, just like with the Simpsons. But there are plenty of nice parts in these specialized sets that make them attractive to many builders any ways. Out of respect to the feelings of all of the set designers, I think it is helpful to focus on more of the positive features of each set and not just post a comment that "something stinks" and slam them in the face. The designers are people and deserve better treatment. How would you feel if someone posted a comment that something you designed really stunk? I posted such a comment by mistake last week, and felt like an idiot afterwards. I was furious about something non-Lego, and took out my anger on an MOC-er. Thank god we can edit what we post when we make such blunders! Politeness goes a long way and costs nothing but a little thought before doing something. So let's try to focus on the merits of a set or MOC and not that someone won't buy something because it ....blah, blah, blahs. (Most of the rest of us could not care whether or not you will be buying the set anyway! All of our tastes are subjective anyway. Look at the music that folks listen to on that thread. Each to his own.) Enough preaching. Let's enjoy the toys we adore. Quote
Chocolatecake Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Oh my LEGO... 2014 is going to be an expensive year. It fits in with the Winter Village set from 2013 and those plans I have with it. Quote
Dharkan Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Simpsons appeal AFOLs. More than many other sets actually. It has both great parts and the house itself is quite good. Also Simpsons is more like a teenager/adult cartoon. And criticism can be harsh as long as its not too harsh. I am the customer and they have to please me. It is not a good set, it is an okay set. The hype Lego and some people are making about this is pointless. This is just a set with some play features, like almost every other (big or small) Lego sets. I really don't get how some people like every single product Lego releases. Lego got you under its spell or something? :D Quote
Yocalyptus Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 This is way too clever! :) I imagine seeing Fairs here at my country being delivered by trucks but of course unassembled. :) Ill prolly have my friends in the US/UK buy this for me. Release month guys? Quote
Mikeysee Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I'm happy to say I don't like this at all. I've been buying too many big sets already this year, and there are still four or five on my list. I'm glad most of you are excited about it though. It's too "playset-y" for me, I prefer solid set-piece models like the carousel. Quote
CardinalBricks Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The strong man looks like Kurt Cobain. Quote
Captain America fan 1 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 This set is really cool. I really wanted a 66 Batmobile, though. Quote
dr_spock Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I think this set has a lot of playability to keep your kids entertained. Quote

Quite a difference from "Sucks big time". Still: you don't like it, so people who do are wrong? Weird... Quote
TheBrickPal Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Wow, this set is awesome! When was the last time we had such a creative set like this? I love the dunk tank, and how the ride can fold up onto the truck. Also, that new sick face will come in handy. I watched the video and was not disappointed, seeing all of the play features. I love fairs, and I love this, but unfortunately I may have to pass on it to save up for the other amazing S@H exclusive sets this year. By the way, the grey female hair is not new. It appeared with Sensei Garmadon in the Nindroid MechDragon set from Ninjago earlier this year. And... the man on stilts reminds me of Lord Business, just a little! Commander Turtle Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) I really don't get how some people like every single product Lego releases. Lego got you under its spell or something? :D I really like some sets, and say as such. This set is great, I love mechanical features. If I don't like a set or style of set, I ignore them. The only time I'd post vitriol would be if there's something bad done to something I had high hopes for; e.g. the original Simpsons stupid eyes. If most people do the same, then unless LEGO does a blunder most comments are positive - it's just different people posting! I don't understand why people are hating on this set, it's a really great addition to a town that isn't police or construction. What's not to like? Edit: I do wish it was £99 though, £119 is steep when I could get a whole pet shop. Edited April 26, 2014 by helloearthling Quote
TheLazyChicken Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 At first I was like "meh" Then I was like "my fair is coming to town" After I watched the video I was like "ME WANT!" So now I want this. That sick face looks good for a man who just got punched in the stomach. Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) EDIT: I really should've watched the video first. HOLY CRAP, so much can be packed onto two trucks! There a lot more glow in the dark pieces than I thought. Excellent function on the Mixer! Excellent minifigs (love the sick face one) excellent everything! -Sci Edited April 26, 2014 by CM4S Quote
Steph 104th Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Need this set in my collection, I send huge compliments to the designer Quote
andythenorth Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Yeah it's totally rubbish. I've seen it at least 9000 times before. There is no way that I am going to buy this. My kids would love it, and there's no way I'm letting them treat Lego as an entertaining and creative construction toy. It's a serious collectors system for Very Serious Collectors who have very Valued Opinions. Lego will be out of business by 2015. I predict that with 128% confidence (it's a signed byte for those who get wtf I mean). Edited April 26, 2014 by andythenorth Quote

I predict that with 127% confidence (it's a signed byte for those who get wtf I mean). LEGO isn't going out of business anytime soon. Just look at the money they are making right now. And "an entertaining and creative construction toy" is exactly what LEGO is. It's true! I know I am not going to change your opinion, but I don't know how someone could hate this set so much. It is just so full of fun! Quote
Fritzy Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) I am loving the look of this. It looks super! I really appreciate the playability on this, and it's appealing for me to see that it's been made with accessible Power Functions in mind. The designer video does a great job of selling the set's compelling features, and Jamie's enthusiasm for it is palpable. I must admit the price makes me a bit uncomfortable, because for only $10 more, I could be getting the Parisian Restaurant instead. Different models, I know, but seeing as I was planning on buying my first modular later this year, I'm not sure how I can fit this into my plans too. But man, the charm of this set is very enticing. Oh my LEGO... 2014 is going to be an expensive year. It fits in with the Winter Village set from 2013 and those plans I have with it. That was one of my first thoughts when I saw this. I kept thinking how well it would jive with the Winter Village set! I definitely want to pick it up now (even more than I already did), but I'm hoping it lasts for a while longer as I'm not willing to buy it until the next VIP event. Or who knows, maybe it'll be retiring soon and I can get it at reduced cost. Edited April 26, 2014 by Fritzy Quote
craiggrannell Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Looking at the video, two things spring to mind: first, the engineering is hugely impressive, given the way everything 'arrives' and is set up; secondly, there's a good gender balance in the minifigs. It's not a set I'd buy for myself, but I can certainly appreciate it as a really clever piece of toy design. Quote

This looks great though! I can't wait to see it in person! Quote
montgocloud Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Well that's pretty anticlimactic. It seems like a toned down version of the Grand Carousel we got a couple years ago. A definite pass to be sure, it'll give me more money for that Sandcrawler! Quote
Darth Punk Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I think andythenorth was being facetious. I like this set. Not sure if I love it but I could see having fun with the kids with a set like this. And could be modified slightly to fit into a winter carnival scene. As Ceaser said in history of the world. Part 1, nice, nice, not thrilling but nice. Quote
Off the wall Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) The fact that I say 'I don't like a set' and the fact that I say 'its a good set' are not mutually exclusive. I can understand how people would like 10244. I don't. But, that doesn't keep me from recognizing it as a fine design effort and a good product that would appeal to the majority of potential buyers. Just not me. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I think its bad. It just doesn't suit my tastes and /or fit into my collecting interests. Unlike the PR which, to me, sucks on all levels. I recently bought the super star destroyer. I don't particularly care for how it looks, but I can appreciate the fact that the designer was bang on in his attempt to make an impressive set. Even though the finished product bears a close resemblance to one of carp swimming in the lake behind my house. So, just because I don't like it doesn't mean I should characterize it as 'bad' or say it 'sucks' (statement not to be taken as an absolute as I clearly have used the word 'suck' when giving an opinion). As a matter of fact, it could mean just the opposite to most people, especially given my standards. :-) Btw, when someone uses the term 'awesome' to describe a set, it basically means nothing to me as the word 'awesome' has become so overused that it means little if anything. Awesome comment, eh? Edited April 26, 2014 by Off the wall Quote
