Brickmamba Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I don't like the new Thing. I mean the printed texture is interesting, but I overall prefer the design from the Lego Marvel game (Which is the one I have currently). So I'll pass on that. However the rest of the pack is definitely worth picking up, the rest of them are an almost match for the game. Swapping out the arms is all I'd really have to do. different strokes for different folks, the latest thing looks more natural colored whereas the old decool version is orange more cartoony, at the end of the day its nice to have all these options available

Really I'd almost consider buying it if not for the head. It looks weird to me. I mean having the stud is an interesting idea, but I guess I can't think of a situation where that would be overly useful. The Thing is bald after all. Though I guess some sort of helmet might be interesting.
gavralcraw Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) A wig is out but The Thing wears a hat sometimes to inconspicuoulsy blend in. Actually maybe this isn't The Thing. The disguise is so insanely good it makes it hard to tell. Funny, I never knew it but I always kinda wanted the Hugh Heffner verison of The Thing. Strangely innapropriate. But SDCC will have one for sure. In fact he'd be great for mocking... maybe some kind of Noir scene with big fig Marv from Sin City. Anyways you get the drift... Sheng Yuan, Decool, if you are following this thread 1 vote for the brown bathrobe, wayfarer shades and stetson hat wearing "Legends" version of The Thing. A must for everyones collection. http://www.oafe.net/...ka/ml_thing.php They gave us ZEA, Surely they can't make this any worse... Sorry, moving off topic. Edited October 20, 2014 by gavralcraw
Sabbath Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 One of the Boys by jokerjester_campos, on Flickr I really like this but it would be even cooler with Pepper in the Rescue Suit. Wonder if we'll get one anytime soon, I'd snap it up. Also you fiendish felons have converted me. I placed my second order today, the SY FF set. I'm planning on also getting the Decool Future Foundation set and the Decool Thing because I prefer their version of our favorite rock head, and mixing and matching. I love the Future Foundation set and the Decool 3 Thing set will give me one for them, and one for the SY set. If my wife gets angry at my new addiction I am absolutely blaming you lot
Divine Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) I personally don't mind Bootleg lego's as you call it. I mean, as some people have mentioned the most noticeable differences will normally be the head print, it's not as well done as lego but as mentioned it can be easily changed with a different head as I do. Lego in general for minifigures is really expensive, and not all of us can afford it. Ideally speaking tho I do prefer lego over cloned lego products, but if theres a good offer on the table I will consider it. I just wish they made more different categories all I generally see is TMNT, Lego Star wars and Superheroes for the themes. I do like the Lego star wars ones, but they tend to be generally always the same. Thats also a very nice pic above ^ Edited October 20, 2014 by Divine
jangosolo Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) One of the Boys by jokerjester_campos, on Flickr Nice - where did you get Pepper's body from? Has anyone purchased the 8cm tall minifigures? Are they any good? http://www.aliexpres...1990265768.html I've ordered a set a few weeks back, so hopefully they'll be here soon - I got the non torch versions, looked kinda cool and there's been queries about SY superman set, its an old set but definitely worth picking up imo (arms and legs replaced) What a difference replacing the legs makes! Been looking at the set, but was massively put off by the legs - great idea for Cyborg's leg too Did the hips need replacing too or where you able to add the legs? Yes hips as well, lego legs dont fit in SY hips, they just fall off
jangosolo Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) The 8cm figs have arrived (way before my ZEA Batman which is slightly annoying!) Pics to follow, build is not as solid as the minifigs, print is a mixed bag, legs aren't as stiff as I would like - but overall I kind of like them. And... there is a piece missing!! argh Found it! Phew. This is probably a better way of viewing the figs than me taking pics (though if anyone wants some detail I am happy to assist) The hands, head, arms, hair/helmet are all removable and posable. The body includes the hips and the legs can pull off. The missing bit I thought was missing was one of the side panels for the legs, you have to assemble all of them. The print quality was fairly good on most, but Spidey's white eyes aren't great. Wolverine comes with some cool flat silver claws and Cap comes with a shield. Bought them for my desk at work, definately worthwhile - I bought from here: http://www.aliexpres...1988311765.html Ordered 9th Oct, so thats a decent turnaround, this seller also includes that excellent set of 8 DC figures Edited October 20, 2014 by jangosolo
BlueberryWaffles Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Conflicting decisions....I want the SY FF set but I already have Decool FF....might just get it for Human Torch, Pyro, and Silver Surfer.
Colossus Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I need a couple of the flaming hair pieces! My Firestorm custom is desperate for one!
Robianco Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Conflicting decisions....I want the SY FF set but I already have Decool FF....might just get it for Human Torch, Pyro, and Silver Surfer. Whenever SY do a set that Decool has done I pick it up as invariably it's better quality. I've got my fingers crossed this set is the same. For some reason I'm expecting the blue plastic colour to be slightly off though... Besides... the Human Torch, Thing and Pyro figures look like making this set worthwhile anyway... then there's the more accurate hair for Reed Richards, Silver Surfer and a nice Dr Doom figure (I have the Lego one but I might strip this one for parts or at least sell it on eBay)
Tyberious Funk Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Don't know if this is of interest to readers of this thread, since they aren't "super heroes" per se, but last night my pack of League of Legends minifigures arrived; http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Decool201-heros-Legends-League-Tryndamere-Garen-Pantheon-figures-LOL-block-toys-Dota-game-building-blocks-Compatible/2040941957.html I don't play League of Legends, but I bought the figs because they looked interesting and I like fantasy-style figures. Typical Decool quality... slightly below Sheng Yuan, but still very good. A couple of the figures are a bit dull... Katarina is probably only interesting for her pink hair, while XinZhao has a nice torso print but not much else. But some of the others are really cool... Garen's armor and sword are (to the best of my knowledge) completely unique to Decool. Likewise the helmets on Tryndamere and Zed. Definitely worth 8 bucks.

The LoL set actually annoys me a bit, but not because of quality. It's a cool looking set. It's just that I'm pretty sure those are the claws my Decool Wolverine is going to arrive with, and that kills the excitement for me on my own order lol. How's the printing?
robuko Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 My LoL set is excellent quality and the accessories are superb. Just started opening the SY FF set. For any waverers, it is an absolute must buy! It is not clear from the pictures, but the human torch is completely trans orange, with chest, back and leg flame printing. If this was a Lego figure we would all be in paroxysms of ecstasy and rapture. Serious contender for best minifig ever, and it's not even Lego! The silver surfer is excellent and the big fig thing is very nice too although it's a bit annoying that it doesn't match official colours. The Pyro head as already noted is perfect for dare devil. This is by far the best clone set yet. You will not regret buying it. Now, how to army build those torches....?

It's just that I'm pretty sure those are the claws my Decool Wolverine is going to arrive with, and that kills the excitement for me on my own order lol. How's the printing? IMHO, the print quality on all of the figures is very good. The main "issue" I have, is that it seems like they print the torso and hips/legs together. The advantage is that the pattern on the torso joins neatly with the pattern on the legs. But on one of my figures, Pantheon (the Centurion-looking guy), there is a slightly rough ridge on the bottom of the torso where the the join has been painted over and then the legs and torso separated. It's very, very minor though. Also, because the print pattern "blends" between torso and legs, you can't really mix and match some of the figures parts. eg, Zed (the guy that looks a bit like Shredder), has an armour pattern that crosses from his torso to his legs. If you swap his legs, his armour looks a little bit incomplete. Overall, these are very minor criticisms though. It's a really high quality set. I really love the fact that Decool made something completely different to Lego (even if they are ripping off someone else's IP), and also the fact that they've created some unique parts. I'd really love to see them do some more "original" stuff. My LoL set is excellent quality and the accessories are superb. Just started opening the SY FF set. I'm not a major fan of the Fantastic Four. But the parts alone in this set are pretty cool. Mr Fantastic's longer arms and legs would make him useful for creating custom figures. Kire Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Would be nice if Decool or SY did a full X men wave. I just noticed Avengers, GOTG, and FF have been done but X men hardly get a full wave. Decool and SY have only done Wolverine, Cyclops and Phoenix. Would be nice to get some more X men I've been eyeing purchasing a custom Gambit, but I can't justify paying $30 USD for one mini figure.

Would be nice to get some more X men I've been eyeing purchasing a custom Gambit, but I can't justify paying $30 USD for one mini figure. I would have loved them to make a Gambit figure, there are some great customs out there, but they are either ridiculously expensive or there is something about them I hate! I was holding out hope for a bootleg, but I've caved and bought Penzore's version. I despise the head but I have a solution (for some reason they've done a clone wars style face which doesn't match anything!?) I've used Man of Steel Superman's alt face and created a mask around the face - it's almost perfect and added a better coat and arms, plus a staff and card deck - I'll stick a pic up later tonight. The only thing is it cost 8 GBP! I can get loads of bootlegs for that - think we have been spoiled a bit! Though I noted last night that prices have doubled on eBay, still cheap but the days of picking 6 figs up for less than 3 quid may be over I've also noticed that Colossus might be doable out of that new FF set, haven't got mine yet, so haven't tried, but with the right hair piece, combining silver surfer with Pryo will get you a pretty decent "purist" version Edited October 21, 2014 by jangosolo
Robianco Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Oh stop your moaning all of you!! Just get yourself the Phoenix Customs figure!!... By far the best Gambit there is. We're all getting spoiled by these bootlegs and getting put off by figures that cost more than £1 or £2 each! In all seriousness (and I WAS being serious by the Phoenix Customs version... if there's anyway you can save your pennies for it just get it)... I think SY and Decool are determined to improve the quality of their product... and they've been doing this for around 2 years?... Maybe a little longer? and they've already made big strides in their product now to how it was when they started. Decool's recent printing on the 9 piece Iron Man set was a vast improvement over their earlier releases... I replaced a couple of SY suits with versions from there... and that's something I'd never normally do. SY, at least for SuperHeroes, is getting VERY consistent with print quality... as well as design. Their SWAT was also pretty decent in the torso prints and the accessories were excellent. Their SW stuff is still a little way off but I'm sure they'll get there. I know some people really don't like bootlegs... and to be honest those people would probably puke if they read through this thread. I for one am not sold on the idea of bootlegging whole sets... I think they're actually crossing a line there... yes that may be double standards from me as I've bought many of these figures but Lego don't do figure ranges or packs... so I'm not looking to pick up any of the full sets that are coming out. I'll still support Lego when it comes to this. What I am hoping that happens (SY in particular) is ranges of figures that are unique... not done by Lego at all. I've spent quite a bit buying custom pad printed figures from various people (Christo, Phoenix, NACM etc) and the quality is absolutely spot on as you would expect... and I want to continue to support these customisers... printing figures in small quantities is expensive... these people aren't ripping anyone off with prices around $25-$30 each... that's what it costs to print these figures and make a little profit to make it worthwhile. Unless you're printing in the 1000s to bring the unit cost down it's not an easy game to get a foothold in. I hope the bootleggers give us an option when it comes to these figures... and not just copy them from Flickr accounts or straight from resellers websites... there are many more figures that appear in games (the source for so many customisers) that haven't been done by anyone and SY and Decool would actually get some serious props for putting those out. Pyro is one for a start... that Human Torch looks fantastic... and NOT a copy of someone else's work. FF have been done by CustomBricks and Muddy River but someone pointed out that they're simply copied from Lego's game designs so they're actually fair game when it comes to putting out a product. In the Flickr community there were people who were so adamantly against bootleggers but I know have since picked up Bigfig Things etc... If they put out good product then people HAVE to consider them. So I hope SY and Decool (but more SY) are reading these threads... I hope that someone is gauging reaction to product and looking at what they can put out. If they keep copying Lego's own stuff then I think it'll be in danger of going stale but there's so much scope for things for them to release that Lego fans actually want. That was a longer post than anticipated. I'm going for a lie down.
