If I could print that at home with potatoes I would by a lot of potatoes right now.

Seriously... a member here had a hand stamper made and got better results than those prints... especially on the muscle torso.

If you ever wondered why some people have such a low opinion of bootlegs it's these kind of figures.

I don't think there's a single torso or head print there that's worth trying to use on a custom figure.

This set and the set with Quicksilver might be the worst bootleg figures I've seen.

Rahino and Juggernaut available on AE

Well they were quick in hitting the shelves!

My Dargo set (Ultimate Spidey, Armored Spidey, Nick Fury and Deadpool) just arrived.

If you're buying it for the figs, save your money. Maybe I've been spoiled by Decool and SY, but the quality of these figures is terrible.

In fairness, the printing is well done (even if a couple of the faces are a bit low on the heads) but the plastic, colour, and sizing is BAD.

Hands barely fit in the arms which barely fit in the sockets. And even in the same set, 1 fig had a different style of leg connection to the others (old Decool style connection)

Also the chests appear to be cut off a sprue, very sloppily too.

On the other hand, I gained 4 sniper rifles, 2 pistols and 2 walkie talkies from the set. Also they shipped with cards, 2 of each.

It's a shame, I was really excited for these characters.

Yeah... I think the images they use are really misleading. The set with Snake Eyes etc posted on the last page show just how bad they are... the Superior Spiderman etc looked half decent on the promo images but if they're anything like the ones shown with SilverSurfer etc then they're a massive no-no.

Yeah it's a bit rough, but it's a risk I accepted when I branched out to a new brand I guess.

Does anyone know anyone doing Armored Spiderman customs?

Which one is the armoured Spiderman? I'm not well versed in Spidey variations.

Is it the grey and black one or the black and red one?

Black and silver. I think the red and black is Ultimate spidey, but I could be wrong

I think the red and black version is Superior Spiderman which was Doc Ock taking over the role for a short while (I know at least a couple of things about Spidey ;) ).

The grey/black/silver figure was actually done really well in the earlier SY set:

I've replaced all but that one from the set with Christo or official Lego figures. I just swapped the legs out for genuine Lego versions and it looks great... I'm happy enough with it to not feel like replacing it anyway!

Here's Christo's:

http://custombrickan...n-P3309979.aspx

The Venom in there is actually also a clone of Christo's original Venom figure which differs on the design (both the head and the torso) from the official version... I think Christo's figure was released before the TLG one but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Also... the Superior Spiderman was pad printed by Muddy River Minifigs:

It's really nice!

The SDCC Spiderman in that set is also not the best... but Phoenix Customs are just about to release their version which is far superior to Lego's SDCC figure never mind any bootlegs:

I am that member you are talking about.

The rubber stamping sadly only worked for me with solvent inks and only for fine lines.

Stamping large areas it pretty much a pain in the megablocks because you don´t get the ink uniformly onto the torsos.

I tried different inks (mostly some that are used for tyres, metals or plastics) but you cannot transfer the ink in an OK quality because you always get too much ink on your stamp.

If this company achieves that with potatoes and I am able to rubberstamp my fine lines/details on top of them, I would be pretty happy.

And btw... If a member posted some figures that where "hand made" stamped with potatoes with the same quality as those bootlegs in the MCW everybody would be like "OMG that is foocking awesome"...

Thanks for the input Raminator... I for one was really interested in those results and hoped that the print was going to hold up... the muscle torso on plain colours is an increasingly sought after thing and being able to reproduce that 'at home' would have been fantastic.

The potato comment is just something that I've used for the last 20 years to refer to something that's been printed badly... and something I've heard used by many designers.

Just the same as saying something that's been cut out really badly looks like someone cut it with their d**k. ;)

Poorly delivered print is inexcusable... yes if someone achieved results like this with a potato people would be amazed but as a machine printed result it's poor.

Now... that's not to say that it's definitely down to the quality of the print. The fact that there are ANY relatively sharp lines on those figures tells me that it may just be terrible artwork that has caused those figures.

People can achieve very good things with paint but I'm yet to see a painted minifigure I want to buy... for me that's just now how Lego minifigures are supposed to look... regardless of the skills and technique involved in the creation of some of them (and I've seen some absolute rubbish posted on Flickr that have actually had good feedback!)

I buy quite a lot from BL and one thing I've noticed is some of the older print from Lego used to be very poor also... but it was down to the design in part... the use of half tone to try and achieve some tone on the print... especially in metallics... and so many of them were out of register.

If someone has been able to replicate that at home with any kind of hand printing it would be considered incredible... but as a finished result from a machine or pad printer it's certainly not.

Thankfully the creation of bootleg or custom figures is so far past this point that it just serves to highlight how poor these are.

If these were the kind of figures this thread was created on it would only have one page instead of 77 and the first reply to 'Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?' would simply be 'No. They're not'.

I totally understood the potatoe comment.

I just wanted to express that I would be fine if I could achieve their quality for my experiments.

I plan to do some more testing in the comming weeks on stamping and hope to present more satisfying results in the corresponding thread.

Why would one want a juggernaut or rhino minifig instead of bigfig? That makes no sense. Unless you dont want any bigfig at all.

Rhino imho looks great. Just like the comics. He just has a plain outfit. Rhino is cool

I was never allowed comics as kid so my super hero obsession came from cartoons - in the original 60s Spiderman cartoon Rhino never seemed much bigger than Spiderman. As for Juggernaut I know he's supposed to be big, but is he Hulk size? Same goes for The Thing and King Pin imo but no doubt my logic is flawed due to lack of comic experience.

BTW in one episode of Spiderman, Rhino made a solid gold statue of himself, so maybe a chrome gold minifig Rhino would be nice  .

The same reason people would want a minifig Groovy when we already have a Groot, something about Rhino looks a little too simple. It could just be the photo, but Bigfigs in general dont even go that high in auctions so I will end up probably getting it after my SY GOTG arrives.

I'm glad I managed to pick up Christo's version a few months ago but this one look sufficiently different that if it was released either by TLG or bootleg it wouldn't just look like a duplicate.

Hmmm, I kind of like my Juggernaut and Rhino minifigs!

(btw, even though I'm still on hiatus -- hope to be back soon -- I'm kind of disappointed with the Juggernaut / Rhino big figs... as someone said, they are better than nothing -- but a disappointment compared to the Hulks and Things)
