ianmrid Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I thought I'd make a thread here for some custom superheroes I made with dyed hair pieces, which stops me posting them over in the Purist thread. The lack of certain hair pieces in particular colours can really limit the creation of certain characters so I have been obsessing over way to get hold of them since I started customising. My friend has been trying out various dyeing techniques (which is how I ended up with my version of Alpha Flight's Sasquatch) but he finally found one that seems to work OK on hair. It isn't super-robust - it wouldn't stand up to play - but it's fine for taking some pictures of. All the below are characters I created previously, but that look better with a custom hair piece. If anyone else has made any custom hair pieces, please feel free to add to the thread - not limited to superheroes either - that's just my obsession! Also, if anyone can think of any others I could try out, please suggest! Also, all design credits are on the Flickr photos themselves. CustomJoe_MD Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 That black queen, looks scrumpcious. Where are the legs from? I'm working on something to solve the perpetual lack of color options problem, for good this time. I'll let you know in 4weeks how it went. Quote
ianmrid Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 I'm looking forward to knowing how it goes as these are fine for pics, but they are too easily damaged :( The legs for the Black Queen are from a penzore custom of Ms. Marvel. Quote
ianmrid Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Couple more uses for one of the custom hairpieces: Phoenix II - Rachel Summers: Quote
CustomJoe_MD Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) You know maybe the epoxy two component paints I suggested in the perfect paints topic, would be better that the dye. They don't wear nearly as much and you can actually play with stuff. I'm fooling with idea of using some PAD inks directly on plastic too, but that comes later. The thing I told you before, is basically molding hot lego plastic directly into the shape of whatever part you want, I just made an order and in a few weeks I'll test that. Might not be as good as Lego but really close hopefully. That way depending on what plastic color you use, thats the part in the color you get, it will only works for simple stuff (simple hair parts should be OK). PS: I have to have a phoenix I and II PAD printed one of these days. That Rachel just kills me. And nice choice of face (pity about the horns and purple lines or it would be spot on. - The horns tend to remind me more Marrow than rachel :b) Edited May 11, 2014 by CustomJoe_MD Quote
ianmrid Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 I might have to give them a try - I'm kinda reliant on my friend who does the dyeing and would do the painting - I don't have anywhere I can easily do that, but will pass on the tips. The injection molding sounds great if possible - would be the perfect solution really! And no concerns over durability :) I'd love a properly PAD printed Rachel - but for not, this was asclose as I could custom. Funny you said it looks like Marrow - this was the face from my custom Marrow for ages, but I wanted something with scars for Rachel and I think this was the closest possible. Quote
