So I sat there with a random minifig and some blue Pneumatic hose. And this is what came from it. I know his arms are really long, but it is just to show yhe general idea. Hope you like it :classic:

Interesting! How did you attach the arm at the shoulder? It looks like a regular shoulder-to-arm joint but it can't be if the arm is a length of hose.

Is the lenght of the tube necessary or do you think it could be shortened by a few mm?

For a fig to grab a sword this way the tubes have to be rather long, but a few mm can probably be taken off, I made this pretty quick. For longer utensils where you can leave some space between the hands they can be much shorter.

Unfortunately the colors available for the tube limits the use of this technique a bit. Blue is the only one that comes close to matching other Lego colors, at least of the ones I had. Maybe the old grey ones will do ok too.

I've use the grey ones for this as well. I didn't make them as long but they do need to be longer than the standard arms (which are honestly too short for anything). A wire would be good though I don't think you can count on being able to poke it all the way through the torso, so I'm not sure it would work easily or well in the end.

I've considered getting some heavy duty coated wire, but still need to find the right "guage". electrical wire would work if you have the right size, and I mean in place of the tubes not in addition to them.

Pneumatic tubes are the only element I've found that works this way. The stiff 3mm tubes are too thin and stiff to use.

Here's how I did mine, not gripping anything but it still took a decent length for the hands to come together.

Thanks, emilstorm.

I wonder if it would be cool for swordplay like your first pic but make one arm shorter so he would be holding it up at an angle. I haven't played around with it that much but perhaps it could work.

I think it would be great for that. My first thought for a picture to post was a fig holding a sword above his head, ready to chop, but the arms would have to be so long it was ridiculous! i think in general it would be reat for holding any kind of firearm, but like you say it takes some playing around with, and right now it is not a priority for me.

Does anyone here have a custom Mr. Fantastic on hands?! I'd sure love to see how that would turn out!!

Example here:
