Rikus Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) I know that 8466 and 8448 have a plate with the studs in pin holes, it's used in the door opening mechanism ;-) Tibivi That's true... I remember, when I dismounted my 8466, I had to build myself a small tool (mad of 2 pin/axle in a lift arm) to separate the two pieces! Here are the two "illegal" steps: Edited May 13, 2014 by Rikus Quote
Boxerlego Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 It's the 2 x 2 L shaped plate that is inserted studs first into the liftarm below it... It's right below the arrow... Yep that's it. Even though it is a illegal technique it doesn't stop me from building with it. Awhile back I made a gear mesh using this sort of building technique on a technic thin liftarm and it was one of the most difficult parts to separate and was impossible to remove with this tool here , I had to use a very small flat head screwdriver to separate the two elements apart. If the picture on the Left is illegal, then the picture on the right should be perfectly fine correct...? I fine with the one on the right. Ok, I saw this and had to join to comment. Multiple studs into multiple Technic holes HAS been done before by TLG. Space Shuttle from the System end of things. They put the 3 studs from a 1x3 plate into the three holes on both sides of a 1x4 technic block (See step 11). Then the engines attached to it. Hi, welcome to eurobricks. Excellent find. That is awesome. Maybe the idea was to use this tool here to take the 1x3 plates off. Quote
Rockbrick Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) if Lego use it so often in official sets then it cannot be illegal - bad for your teeth yes, illegal no: (this one from set 4093) Edited May 16, 2014 by Rockbrick Quote
aol000xw Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Some techniques were used in the past and the time test proved them to be wrong, making them obsolete or illegal. Quote
Moz Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) I've been told that single stud parts are ok, anything more is not. Specifically, I was teasing Ricco (Technic designer) at Brickvention about it, as the chassis rails on my road train were beams held together with 2x3 plates. I could have done the same thing legally using only ~30 cents worth of parts... for each of the 400-odd times I needed that connection. IMO it's one of those things that is discouraged rather than completely banned. Probably more discouraged when it's structural. Edited May 17, 2014 by Moz Quote
