Newb Question - Regarding Black Falcon use in Historica.

I am thinking about joining one of the factions here at Historica but want to use my Black Falcons. My problem is that it seems to be Green, Green and Green for most the colours. So where can I use them in Historica?

The Black Falcons have been used both in Nocturnus and Kaliphlin but they would be allowed in any of the guilds.

Note that many GoH-ers have personal heraldry (such as the blue/white/black of the Falcons) and still fly guild colours on their standards. Blue and red are Kaliphlin, so add a sprinkle of red and you have ready made troops- they're probably the easiest. Although, you probably should join the best guild, Nocturnus.

As has been said you could use them in any guild. My personal heraldry is blue and white (still working on the final design), but my guild's (Avalonia) official colors are dark and sand green.

So whatever guild you like the best is what you should go for. But I would advise you to choose wisely. Here's something to give you a little taste of each guild...

~Common foods: Frozen walrus, frozen yak,

~Most popular pass time: Making snowmen

~Sight seeing attractions: Snow, ice, glaciers, snow drakes, snow

~Climate: Frozen, rarely over 0 degrees celsius (32 fahrenheit)

~Main export: Timber (frozen), ice

Avalonia:

~Common foods: Venison, sweet meats, vegetables, fruits

~Most popular pass time: Athletic competitions such as archery, fencing, Javelin throw

~Sight seeing attractions: Elven forests, city of Albion (grand capital of Avalonia), peaceful coastline

~Climate: Mild, not prone to extreme heat or cold

~Main export: Fine horses, superb weaponry, elven foresters, seeds from the great trees of Avalonia

*It should be noted that theses pumpkin pies are prone to biting the heads off of would-be consumers, caution is advised

**These are literal elephant ears, not the kind made out of dough, cinnamon, and sugar that are found at fairs and carnivals

Left off of the Avalonian list was the mandate that all Avalonian men wear green spandex tights, and be adept ballet dancers. For reference, see Robin Hood:Men in Tights. Glad I could find that error before too many people read this :)

Kaliphlin has dark blue as one of our guild colors. I don't see a problem using "regular blue" in Kaliphlin uniforms, especially if used together with red, as there surely would be local variations in how the Kaliphlin blue is produced. I've btw used neo-falcon shields in a Kaliphlin mercenary band so the heraldry is also not unheard of there.

I recall that I've also seen some excellent black falcon based troops in Nocturnus

You will never let that tights thing go.... Anyways, most any heraldry of the past castle themes is accepted for any of the four guilds. For choosing a guild, I suggest finding a biome that supports your collection of pieces. Although each guild has a main biome, they all have a variety so just be sure to check them out before choosing.

@Hammerhand, well that was a bit biased methinks. Kaliphlin would be more like so:

Common Foods: Ahem, well, we do like our Elephant feet - not ears observe - they really make quite delicate morsels.

Most Popular Pastime: Studying (which admittedly involves a deal of talking). We're also partial to elephant hunting.

Sightseeing Atractions: Ah, now you're talking! Sand - bah! An occasional oaisis? That's all the outsiders know, but if you've taken the Tour of Kaliphlin, you'd know how much more there really is...

Climate: Hot in the main, true, but there are plenty of cool spots- along the coast, up the mountains, in the swamps and forests...

And our Main Export: (Yes, we dabble in glass,) Intelligent scholars from our famed Petraea University!

Easy answer is use them wherever you like! Although the main Kaliphlin army seems to favour lion heraldry, my Peregrinian (eastern promontory of Kaliplhin) forces have falcon crests, and i know ppl in other guilds have used Black Falcons too. It always helps to have a little splash of your guild's colours in your forces, but it's not so tightly prescribed here in Historica - the aim of the game is more to get ppl to use what they have, rather than have to buy a lot of one thing or another to fit in.

Of course if you're looking for a guild, i would have to recommend Kaliphlin as being the most diverse!

Well next step is Guild choice..... Elephant munchies or tights..... Oh the dilemma!

I am in Garheim in the Lands of Classic Castle/Roawia game over there because I had a reasonable amount of white for snow but I never seemed to use it when I built.

I am feeling the pull of the men in tights perversion of Avalonia geography wise at the moment but I am still thinking.

There have been Black Falcons in Mitgardia, with green arms. And Mitgardia is the best guild, if you haven't chosen one yet ;) Seems like Swedes are over-represented here, I'm one too x)

We have plenty of regions without eternal snow in Mitgardia, in fact only a hand full of my mocs contain snow. And we obviously have the best beer, all those other guilds are simply too square to enjoy a good buzz every now and than ...

I'd recommend Nocturnus. If you're going to use the Black Falcons. Seems they use them the most and they have the least amount of members. Avalonia, Kaliphlin, and especially Mitgardia seem to have a decent amount of members already.

In Kaliphlin the southern Rakath Mountains are very much a subtropical rainforest. The Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess have many family heraldries.

Thanks for all the information so far. I was thinking Avalonia for a bit.... Bricks wise I can't do desert builds. Now Mitgardia or Noctornus perhaps.... I like beer so Mitgardia sounds good.... Although I like a good bit of evil so Nocturnus seems fun.... Ah decisions.

I have used the black falcons a few times in Kali. I always use them as legendary warriors of times long past (eg classic smiley yellows), because of the "when men of the falcon fought men of the lion" line in the introduction to all the guilds. We certainly don't make it compulsory to build desert, we have swamps, grasslands, mountains, jungles, caves, rocky coasts and all you can imagine. I strongly recommend you to join any of the guilds.

It seems Mitgardia is being under-represented in this topic so I'll chime in. We have the best guild by far. Where else can you get frozen yak as a daily snack? It's absolutely delicious! And as kabel said, there are many areas without snow that can be represented in a build, but we also have the pleasant option of adding snow to any of our builds whereas it's a stretch for any of the other guilds to be able to enjoy a good snow-ball fight now and then
