Actually, I think if anyone from TLG watch from time to time this forum they must see that the Benny character and his CS stuff have the biggest hype from all in the TLM, so...logicaly I would think next movie should be about him, what do you think? To me it looks fantastic just as imagination alone, but who knows?

Superb review as ever, Rufus - obviously not Classic Space, but nice to see so many nods to the original sets, not to mention the printed slopes.

Why do I get the feeling that LEGO will shift a few of these sets....?

:-)

Thank you for the review, really liked to read it!

And thank you also for the 'sticker-less' pictures. I really think it works really well without them, too. As you stated, they give a nice touch to it, but I don't think they're a must (okay, the ones on the back on the large blue tails are).

Must get Benny and Kitty of bricklink or ebay I guess ;)

Thank you, Rufus, for this outstanding review of an awesome set. If I hadn't decided to buy this the very minute I saw the first pictures that surfaced, your review certainly would've convinced me.

I always enjoy your writing style and attention to detail, along with the humor you always sneak in. And your photography is flawless.

Wow! That is a really great review! I was tempted to buy that set in Billubd, too that has to wait a bit at last.

Thank you for showing the beauty if this set

Thanks for an excellent review. I have never been a fan of space and won't be getting this set but Benny was such an awesome character in the movie that I thought I should look at his ship. You put together an excellent review with superb photos to go with it. It was so well written that I could not stop reading. Congratulations on winning this set and thank you once again for the time and effort you put into this and your other projects.

Great review!. Are the grey parts old gray or light blue grey?

Adam

Hi Adam!

The LEGO company doesn't produce old gray any more for quite some time now.

So this is of course LBG.

Just to confirm: those codes ARE for the TLM game. This code unlocks the Robo Pilot character (the same as in the set) and Astro Pants. The other two sets also have a tile like this but for different characters. Johnny Thunder and I think Police Pants for the Dropship and Angry Kitty and Construction Pants for the Mech.

Great review. I absolutely love this set and will get it June 1st along with the Ecto-1. Even though I am a new fan, I always understood the appeal of CS and this set is FANTASTIC. Love all the little details.

What does the code from the Rescue Reinforcements unlock?

Fantastic review, as usual Rufus, and a really, really, REALLY! nice looking set in my book! It does have a lot of stickers, but it has some great parts and that classic-space feel that I find make it up for this set. A definite must-buy for any Lego Movie and/or classic space fan! :classic:

Fantastic review as always Rufus, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, now the only thing I can say is I will enjoy building it :classic:

Thanks so much for the review, Rufus! You are the MAN, when it comes to Classic Space at least. :)

Disappointed to see no sign of alternate old-school CS builds, either on the packaging or in the instructions. :( Was really hoping for that... I agree that it would have been nice for at least one other spaceman.

Still, I'll buy at least one. Possibly two. Possibly more, really. Probably at least two. :sweet:

Yea, it is really a pity that TLG stopped printing their sets B-plans on the boxes as they used to in old times (80's - mid 90's): I remember myself having so much time and thrill trying to build all those alternate models from those box pictures...ah :cry_happy:

well i bought it at the Billund Park a day later. Paid 799 crowns, more or less 130 euro or so?

Thanks for the great review Rufus :sweet:

No doubt, every young boy will buy this set. It looks cool, it's quite large, there's a lot of playability stuff, it only misses yet a few other space dudes  I would have prefered a red or white astronaut though, but oh well, blue is fine too. It also misses a couple of classic antennas though... G Mr. Lego, how could you have forgotten those?:cry_sad: oh well... can't have it all... :cry_sad:

but what do I think of this set... hm... I think it's a great tribute to Classic Space, the revival of old parts is a good thing if you wanna build neo-classic space stuff. and we all love Astro Kitty, right? but the model is a bit too complicated for me, honestly. too many angles and corners for my taste... ah yes... the lack of a landing gear... hmmm... come on Mr. Lego... only a few extra parts...

think i'll do some modifications when i'm building this...

the canopy is also a bit of a risc. Sure, it's large, but kinda difficult to use for other mocs...

I suspect that Benny is blue because IIRC, the blue spacemen were less common, and thus he's that much cooler.

I would think it would be more so that his outfit is closer to the typical Classic Space ship colors. It eliminates any ambiguity as to what theme he belongs to, which is useful since not all theatergoers are as knowledgeable about classic themes as we Lego fans are, so it helps to have a consistent visual language.

Thanks for your review! This is a set that is on my must-have list. Due to its colour scheme, it reminds me so much of good old classic space.

Could anyone tell me why this ship is called Benny's spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP! ? I haven't seen The Lego Movie. I am constantly asking myself this question.

Just saw the movie again (but actually took the kids this time ), and thought it was cool to see that the wing-expanding function makes an appearance.

I've tried to limit major spoilers, but what I have could still be considered a minor spoiler. Consider yourself warned...

Benny in the movie is kind of a hyperactive oddball. The only things he's interested in building are Classic Space spaceships, but he keeps getting turned down by the other main characters. When he's finally given the go-ahead to build his "special spaceship" he's so excited that, after building it, he starts excitedly yelling "SPACESHIP!" as the ship launches into action. It's a pretty iconic scene, especially for Benny as a character.

Fantastic review, thank you! I was already planning on getting this set, but now will have to find a way of getting it to Brazil as soon as it's available!

Quick question: since the spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! is so big, I'm anticipating trouble landing it on my CS base. I don't think it fits in the old landing pad baseplates. Should I get a 48 x 48 baseplate just for her?
