Heroica RPG- Quest #101: Into the Woods

[Comrade Commander]

Darksten looks at the Satyr, and cannot help but feel a little unworthy of her admiration. Here was a young girl who looked up to him, yet she probably knew how to survive in the woods better than he. He was sure he had no stories to tell that warrented such respect, but he didn't want to disappoint her

"Well since you mentioned we might be dealing with spiders, I guess I can tell you about my last contract. I must warn you that it isn't very exciting though." The ranger states, hoping that by doing so it actually makes the story seem more intriguing

"Not to long ago some creatures seized a dwelling after having stowed away in some shipping crates with a few of their followers. They came to Eubric from a far Northern realm in an effort to set up a sort of colony, and feed on the poorer settlers in the city. They might have only been a large worm and spider, but their egos quickly outgrew the shelterwith the help of some plentiful food. However, as I am sure you have seen, with any ecosystem, when you introduce any new preditors, the food supply dwindles and the entire balance is thrown off."

"The two insects, and their respective followers, turned on each other, and that is when Heroica was called in. We fought our way throw the shelter, clearing out spiderwebs and searching for hidden enemies . There was A Cleric there who was working for another organization who unfortunately had been ambushed. We were able to free him in time before he had been turned into a meal. Unfortunately the beasts put up a strong fight given their size and rugged evolution, and the party took a few hits" Darksten says, rubbing his shoulder for effect "But we managed to take the out the worm first. See, he held the key food supply. Once we controlled that, we had the upper hand. The spider thoguh proved more of a challenge. He decided his own fate though, and we eventually succeeded in making the dwelling safe again. I carry this now to remind me of the lessons from that adventure" The ranger states as he pulls out the Fang of KOS

"I should mention that the knight here tagged along on the quest as well. Seems we have become a bit of a ... team" Darksten hesitates putting the last word out into the open, knowing what it implies, but not wanting to share his true thoughts

Kianu listens intently, soaking in each and every word Darksten says with enthusiasm.

"Wow! That sounds like a harrowing experience! More exciting than anything I've done in fifteen years of my life. And that fang: it's massive! Do you um... do you mind if I look at it?"

[Comrade Commander]

"Of course, I am sure you would appreciate the simple beauty and power behind nature's creations"

Darksten says as he hands the fang over to the girl

Kianu carefully takes the grey hued fang from Darksten and looks it over.

"I've never seen something like this before. Spider fangs, sure, they're dime a dozen in Murkwood, but ones that look like this. He must have been quite the size to have fangs this big on him."

She carefully hands it back to Darksten, looking impressed.

"I think it's a cool story, Darksten, if that means anything."

The sky was turning hues of light blue and orange as the sun began to set. It seemed the party had chatted most of the afternoon. As they trekked down the highway a small wooded area began to run along opposite of them, animals scurrying about in it's depths. It wasn't long after that the party came across a curious sight.

Two men accompanied a cart, it's wheel broken off. A werelion kneeled on the ground, attempting to fix the wheel, while a savvy looking man waved the party down, a frantic look on his face. Both looked well dressed.

"You four! Yes, you there! Can you lend us a hand? Our carts broken down and we've got an urgent deadline to keep!"

"Yes, it's important that we make it to Bric'lin quickly, and with the sun setting we could use your assistance."

"Look, we'll make it worth your while! There's a reason friends call me Honest John."

Kianu looks to the party with enthusiasm in her eyes.

"Well, sure we can help you. Right guys?"

With Kianu eager to help the two men, what will the party do?

"No problem! We can help you fix it."

"Anyway, what is your business in Bric'lin?

Honest John's face brightens up at Hoang's offer.

"Aye! Thank you, my good lad! The help is much appreciated!

We're picking up an important shipment from Bric'lin then heading back to Eubric with it. Of course, our shipment is time sensitive and we need to get there as soon as we can!"

"...agreed. Help me lift this cart up."

Darksten eyes the individuals and takes in his surroundings... "Is that a beehive hanging in the tree?" He thinks to himself

"Aye, we might be willing to help you. What are you hauling?"

Looking into the forest, Darksten eyes something hanging hanging on the branch. A few flying insects buzz around the hive, flying lazily. Definitely a beehive.

"Bless you, lad! We're actually picking supplies up from Bric'lin, urgent stuff for the houses. Here, why don't you and the knightly fellow help my werelion friend while myself and the young satyr put the wheel back in it's place? You seems quite strong with your equine legs, m'dear."

"Of course I'd be willing to help! What about you, ranger? You still haven't told me your name, yet."

She looks to Deus.

"Oh, excuse me," he addressed the taurian, "the name's Deus, Deus Spiranius."

"And of course I'd be willing to help!" he added.

"I'm unfortunately horrible with remembering people's names, so I'll stick to Deus.

And incase it wasn't clear, the name's Kianu. I... don't really have a last name, so we won't worry about it."

Honest John gives a broad smile.

"Generosity and kindness is not something most people give to strangers these days, so thank you lot kindly! Now then, let's get this cart fixed! Black robed ranger, help me and your other two companions lift the cart up while your satyr friend and Richard over there put the wheel back on."

The party assists the two men and together they get the wheel back into its place on the cart. Looking inside the cart, the party sees a gleaming longsword, cast from dark metal resting alone. Richard howlers shortly there after.

"DROP IT! PUT IT BACK DOWN!"

The party quickly does so and puts the broken cart and wheel back on the road as Richard looks the wheel over.

"The pin to keep the wheel in place is missing."

"Curses... would you gents have any idea what to use to fix the cart?"

[Lego Spy]

"Would an arrow tip help hold it in place?" Deus asked Richard.

[Comrade Commander]

"An arrow tip is a great idea. We could also carve something from a branch. But I am not exactly sure what a cart pin looks like."

[Kintobor]

"I'm not entirely certain if an arrow tip would hold out long enough."

Suddenly, Deus feels something sharp and pointy poke his back.

"Stick 'em up! This is a robbery!"

"I wasn't too certain we'd be able to hold out long enough, Sullivan. Then again, I'm bloody shocked no one realized we never had a horse."

A halfling prods the ranger's back while a woman in a black dress comes out from her hiding place in the woods, her staff aimed at the party. Richard draws his sword on Kianu while "Honest" John grabs the longsword from the back of the cart. It seemed like the party had fallen right into the bandit's trap...

"Where the hell were you guys! We were almost certain we'd have to fight them off ourselves should something go down!"

"Your friends call you Honest John, eh?"

John comes close to smacking Kianu but restrains himself. Kianu flinches.

"Perhaps if Alfendi allows it we'll make some money selling you into the slave market, girl. I hear satyr's are in high demand."

John's remark shuts Kianu up, the satyr looking worriedly at the party.

"Drop all the gold you got and we'll let you go without any more hassle. If not, we're going to have some problems."

While the man with the knives behind him spoke, Deus saw his chance. When he was young, Deus' travelling camp often had to deal with thieves, and as he grew up, he was taught to defend himself if a band was to appear.

He threw himself to the ground to his left, and swung his foot into the man's leg at the same time, knocking him face-forward onto the ground. In a moment he had drawn back his bow string and had the arrow pointing at the man's head. "Drop your weapons, or he dies!" he yelled at the other three thieves.

With a quick motion he notches an arrow and attempts to move between the girl and Richard. He had nothing else to say to the group of theives, but he knew others nearby could hear him.

"bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....there is an intruder in a black dress...to arms...bzzzzzzz" Darksten humms to the hive of bees.

"If you move I will cut your stupid head! I knew there was something fishy here!

Deus attempts to make Sully face plant, but doesn't take into account the fact that multiple thieves were present. As he knocks Sullivan to the ground, Richard smacks him in the chest with the hilt of his sword, sending him back, and dealing 1 damage.

"Don't get cocky, ranger."

"Bwa ha ha! Now this is a riot! Looking out for the satyr, are we? Alfendi would find this rich!"

"You didn't need to do that, Darksten. But, thank you..."

"Ugh, can we just get to the mugging already? We've been out in those woods for the past two hours!"

The bees reply to Darksten, but it's not the answer he's looking for.

"Buzzz, buzz. <Sorry, we're busy at the moment! Our hive's in the middle of our coronation of our new queen! We'd appreciate it if you didn't disturb us!>"

Hoang quickly draws his Sword and point at the werelion:

"Lets end this charade. I'd rather like to keep that armour of yours for myself."

The four bandits move forward onto the party, weapons drawn.

"Well, you four decided this. If I were you, I would've taken our offer, but that's all in the past. Men, we'll take everything off their unconscious bodies! To arms!"

The bandits move towards the party. It was now or never! For some, this was their first bout of combat, for others, another obstacle on the road of life, but one thing was for certain. The party would have to...

"Stabby, stabby, stabby!"

Sully the Stabber *Stunned!*

OOC: First fight of the quest! If any of you need a refresher or have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, Lego Spy, you did take 1 damage, but you also managed to stun Sully. Some other QMs might not allow you to do such a thing in the future, but I thought a trade off seemed fair.

OOC: I had picked Richard because I felt the sword drawn against her was the greater threat, but it was all role play so no big deal. It had the same effect.

"Damn bees, I should have fired the arrow at the hive when I had the chance. Would have been worth risking the extra stings" Darksten thinks to himself.

Instead he points he arrow at the beast who had tried to attack the girl, holds his breath to steady his aim, and releases the arrow.

"Kianu, are you ready? I will cover you. Try to take out that lady please!"

"Hoang Anh, perhaps you can let Deus take the first hit on stabby over there since he seems to have worked him over all ready. Besides, your armor would serve well against Johnny."

Ooc: Hoang Anh, with Sully stunned he cannot attack and thus it makes more sense for you and I attack folks who might deal damage since our armor can absorb some hits. Just my thoughts and Kintobor please correct me if I am wrong in regards to 'stunned'

QM Note: Here's the official ruling on Stunned when dealing with enemies.

Stunned - The enemy misses on the next DAMAGE or SPECIAL DAMAGE rolled for it. If nobody targets it, the enemy loses its Free Hit.

You could leave Sully this round and not worry about a free hit, or Hoang could attack him and if he rolls Damage or Special Damage not take the damage he would receive. However, if he rolls anything else, Sully becomes un-stunned. So in all honesty, it's not a bad idea to strike Sully this round. In the end, it is up to you guys though. Just my two cents.

Also, if Deus doesn't post in time, I'll need an action from him.

OOC: Lego Spy, it's important that you at least update once a day. If you don't update within a certain amount of time, I have the ability to kick you from the quest, and I know you were on yesterday. Don't make me do this on your first quest, because it looks bad in your case when other QM's see you don't at least give a brief update. If you're having trouble with the battle mechanics, either ask them here or drop me a PM.

Also, yeesh. Not a good first round. Nothing you guys can't recover from!

Battle Order:

The party stumbles during it's first round as Hoang and Kianu both miss their targets, but Darksten manages to unleash Richard's wrath. He strikes both Kianu and Deus, mauling them. However Deus manages to retaliate with three precise shots to three of the thieves. Kianu clutches her shoulder.

"Crud this hurts like hell! Is this part of your job? Getting tossed around a lot?"

Datksten watched as his arrow only enrarged the mutant lion. "This is going to harder than just squishing bugs" he thinks to himself. At least his fellow ranger was scoring hits. With the stab addict back on his feet, Darksten decides to take him on instead

"Keep at it Kianu, sometimes we have to lure them into thinking they are winning."

OOC: You're allowed one action in a round, (with the exception of when you're hastened, which I doubt we'll get to this quest) so using an item is an action. You can change it up to the point where I post the round, so if you want to change your action, you totally can at this point. Good to see you're sticking around!
