Sandy Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Results of Round Twelve of the Battle on the Blood Brick Road: >Throlar vs. Orokai - Special Damage (Claim the Mark - Throlar: knocked out) >Nazgulie vs. Orokai - Special Damage (Join Me in Death - Orokai & Nazgulie: removed from battle) Orokai furiously ripped through Throlar with his cleaver, then assaulted the undead harlot. She did not give in without a fight, though, but with her last strength dug into Orokai's heart with her long claws. Four corpses were left lying on the Blood Brick Road, which once again showed the truth behind its name... THE BATTLE HAS FAILED! A little later, a strange man with a huge backpack came to the scene of the battle. He carefully went through the corpses, looting whatever he could find. When he reached for Throlar's bag, the severely wounded dwarf clutched him by the wrist. "Ooh, you're still alive! But you've been almost split in half. How can you be...? Ah, unless you're from Heroica, of course. Then I better take you with me. I think it's time to go visit momma again..." ~THROLAR'S QUEST HAS FAILED!~ Party: Throlar Wineghilm (Lord Duvors) 135 year old male dwarven Knight Level 12 *Immune to ice and weakened* *Avoids Free Hits from flying enemies* Power: 25 (12+12+1) Defense: 6 (5+1) Health: 26/26 (10+11+5) Gold: 455 Equipment: Mopagsaber (WP:12, ice elemental longsword), Poncanis Shield (SP 5, immunity to ice) Crow Helmet (SP:1, flying enemies do not deal free hits to the wearer, suitable for knights and dragoons; headwear), Lion’s Plate (Max. K-Nut Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 "The road may lead us to some unwanted confrontations. I say we travel back through the marshlands," He leans in towards the alchemist, passing his Oculoid Claw to him. "Might have some more luck with this, depending on the circumstance." Quote
Khorne Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 "I'll be packing with me some fuse and a detonator to help us blow up the bombs from a safe distance. Gods, I feel so nasty! Are we ready to depart, now?" asked the alchemist as he joined the party. Eric smirked and simply remarked, "Welcome to my world. Let's hope these bombs of yours will do the trick." The Nord sneered slightly at the last part of his remark. He felt saddened by the loss of money and had hoped to resolve the situation without suffering significant financial loss. "Let's hope there's some stuff of value to loot in that Tower." Quote

Sandy Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 The dwarven alchemist inspected the strange club Althior handed to him. "A peculiar contraption, I must say. It almost looks... organic." They left the dreary Port Taboo behind and made their way back into the Ozmath Marshlands. They followed the paths they walked before to stay on course. K-Nut Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Althior looked towards the dwarfs fascination with the claw. "Funny story of how I got that. May want to wash the ink off your hands when you're done," Althior tries to see what the smell is coming from. Quote
Khorne Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Eric's stomach growled as the delicious smell entered his nostrils. The Nord was hungry and Peri's encouragement only made that fact more obvious to him. "I am hungry...," Eric began to speak, "but like the Sarge says, it's probably something of the witches' doing. I don't trust the smell of good food in such a rotten place as these marshes. It's not right." The Nord contemplated the situation for a brief moment. "I am willing to check it out in a stealthy manner and not reveal our presence." He then eyed Hodurr and quickly added, "But that will most likely not be possible with him", indicating the dwarf berserker with a nod towards him. Quote
Sandy Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 QM Note: Sorry, it's been another busy and exhausting saturday for me, so the next update will have to wait until tomorrow. Quote
Sandy Posted August 17, 2014 Author Posted August 17, 2014 QM Note: Sorry, apparently there will be no pictures for this update after all. Eric snuck closer to the source of the smell, and saw a cottage made of gingerbread standing in a forest clearing. There was a familiar black wagon standing in front of the cottage, with a black cat donning a mauve bonnet sitting on the perch, licking himself. "Isn't that the witch's cat from last night?" asked Periwinkle all of a sudden behind Eric. When the raider frowned at her, she gave him a sheepish smile. "Sorry, my stomach didn't want to wait for you." Quote

Khorne Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 "Wait, what?", Eric rubbed his eyes in disbelief. Why would anyone build a house out of gingerbread. The building defied logic and common sense and that aggrevated Eric. "Not hungry anymore. Let's go, Peri. We'll find something to eat somewhere else" He trotted off, tailing the party. He hoped they were getting closer to that tower already. Quote
Jebediahs Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 "That cart looked ripe for the taking with only a mere kitten as guard? WOooo. That gold reward is far off and witchy trinkets are here, now." Nur dragged his feet as he followed the party. "Awww c'mon companions. Even if not for the treasures which is all the motivation you should need, there are bound to be secrets about the Tower we need back there. Trap locations, hidden magical item caches, possible treasure rooms..." En Sabah Nur looked to the sky and continued to talk even if only to himself. Quote
Sandy Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 The party continued their trek through the swamp, listening to Periwinkle whine all the way. The day turned into an evening, and stars appears to the sky above them. The wild beasts and spirits seemed to shirk away from them, but they could feel their presence in the shadows. All of a sudden they were out of the forest, and in front of them rose an impossibly tall, black tower. The ground around it was scorched and barren, and the only other construction in sight was the black wall that circled the tower. "The Tower of Babel. At last." "Wow! I've never seen it with my own eyes before, but the stories certainly did not exaggerate it's magnificence." "DARN shame we gotta blow it to SMITHEREENS." "Does that thing have a tavern in it? Because otherwise I won't move an inch before I get some food!" Periwinkle's words turned out to be just hot air, as she promptly followed the party when they walked closer to the tower. A grey-clad golem was waiting for them at the gate of the wall. "Evening, weary travellers", shouted the golem in a dry, monotonous voice. "I am the Senechal. I am here to apologize on behalf of Keeper Mnemosyne for the fact that the Tower of Babel is closed from visitors. Please turn back and return to whence you came from." "Oh well, that's that. Now let's get something to eat." Quote
K-Nut Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Althior rolled his eyes. The girl was becoming a nuisance. He looked to the Golem with false, pleading eyes. "You do not understand, sir. We come begging for help. The Sorceress Ambergaze of Babeleth has returned and threatens the free islands in the Crystalline sea. She sides herself with a group of outlaws who are planning to level the city. We need to know her weaknesses, or the Free Islands are just going to be the start." Quote

"I must apologize, but the Keeper does not involve herself with things to come. She is only interested in what has been. Furthermore, a word has reached us that Sorceress Ambergaze wishes to raze this tower to the ground. Hence I simply cannot let anyone in at this moment. Take care." "We have come too far to falter now. We have to find a way through that gate!" "Don't we HAVE a coupla BOMBS to spare?" "We might have, but wouldn't that raise an alarm?" What will the heroes do? Sandy Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 QM Note: I'll keep things moving, since I'd like to wrap this quest up by next week's Friday when I'm leaving on a two-week vacation... The heroes stepped back from the gate to discuss their next move. After a while, the mighty gate creaked and opened slightly. Three more golems walked out - except that one of them was dragging itself, since it had no legs. The other was missing an arm, while the third had no head. They made their way north-west as the gate slammed shut behind them. "Okay, what was that all about?!" "Those golems might provide a stealthier solution in getting into the Tower, if we followed them." Quote
K-Nut Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 "Might as well. We don't really have many more options," Quote
Khorne Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Eric stared at the events unfolding before him. He blinked in surprise as the golems made their way out of the gate. "What use are broken golems with missing parts as guards?", he asked to none in particular, somewhat puzzled. The Nord then nodded in agreement with the alchemist's suggestion. "Let's get this over with and blast this tower." Quote
Sandy Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 QM Note: Sorry, I've been too busy to get much building done, so you'll just have to rely on descriptions... The disabled golems made their way to a large crater in the middle of the scorched plains. There was a vast pool of mud at the bottom of the crater, with a ramshackle building perched on its shore. On a platform extending from the building stood a rockling with a pointy brown hat. The golems slumped to the rockling. "Boys, look at the shape you have gotten yourselves into! I'm telling you, the stonehearted witch in the Tower just doesn't treat you right. Well, come closer and let mother Cinnabar fix you up in a jiffy!" The female rockling then started to chant, and the golems got covered in a stream of mud, clay and stone that rose from the pit. Soon their missing appendices had been replaced. "So this is where the Tower gets its servants from, then", whispered Walbartan to the others as they peered down from the edge of the crater. What do the heroes do now? Quote
K-Nut Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Althior buries his face in his hands and sighs. "Is there anything in this land that isn't completely megabluked up?" he mutters to himself. "I doubt intimidating them into getting a way into the tower would work. And we don't really seem to have any form of diplomacy on our side," He turned to Nur, "Whatever happened to your rocky composure, Nur? Surely that would've proven useful here..." Quote
