Outworlder Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 My first MOC of 2014 was influenced by the Crimson Empire comics, which were expanded universe stories centered around the Royal Guard. I've posted several images in the thread that I used for reference and inspiration. This MOC contians almost 50 Royal Guard minifigs, 2 modified red tie interceptors, and what I would call the main gate or entrance to Palpatine's fortress/palace on Courscant. The Royal Guard TIEs are actually not from Crimson Empire but made their first appearance several years ago in the PC game Star Wars Galaxies. I'm aware that several fan made LDD designs of the Royal Guard Ties are around, but mine, although similar, are my own and built from scratch. The palace gate was something I just threw together quickly in about 2 days to give it more of a diorama feel. I would have liked to put more effort and detail into this part but I kind of lost interest. I would eventually like to make a really detailed SW diorama like the awesome ones I've seen on this forum. Enjoy! Quote
Mr Man Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 That doorway is impressive , I do like all that Imperial red on the TIES as well. I don't remember those little winglets though. Quote
VK-318 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 !!!!!!!!!! I like it! Don't tell me how much all those Imperial Guards cost, I'd as soon not know. Impressive work with those TIEs, and the gate is really a tour de force. Go ahead and complete the diorama, please! Quote
Only Sinner Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 This really is remarkable! Being a long time fan of Crimson Empire,( the complete set is right in front of me) I have a certain attraction to all things Imperial Guard related. Your Tie collection is looking fine, especially those awsome red ones. Your setup looks great with all those Guards in front of the gate, which is amazing in itself. I might suggest trading in the grey spears for the black harpoon piece, as it works better as a force pike looking weapon. (at least in my collection anyway) Altogether, this is so cool, thanks for sharing! Quote
theman4090 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) Wow, these are really good. I haven't read Crimson Empire (any online links?) but these are really good. I've always thought that the Royal Guard where awesome. LEGO should make these, this very instant! P.S. You should put 'em on LEGO ideas :) Edited May 24, 2014 by theman4090 Quote
gcanik Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Very cool MOCs. Your doorway is outstanding and I like the use of Deadpool's body for the Crimson Guards. Quote
BJM Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Hi Outworlder. I am flabbergasted by this. The red ties and the gate are so great a background to one of my favourite troopers too. I just want to also say a great big thanks for posting so many images. Great that you get to show off the fun you had, but really great to for me and others to see it. This really is what Eurobricks is for and what makes it such a great site, and why I keep coming back for such inspiration. Keep up this outstanding work - I would love to see this diorama grow. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Big Cam Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Very impressive work. I appreciate the pictures to compare them too because I didn't even know there ever was a red tie fighter. So it was cool to see the original artwork next to your well executed model. You have quite the collection of imperial guards I might add. Quote
Robianco Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 That gateway is superb... and the Deadpool torso and legs on the Imperial Guard is inspired and really takes the figure very close to that Hasbro model. The Red Interceptors look great... I almost want to see what they'd look like with dark red instead of the bright red but that's just out of interest as opposed to any kind of criticism on the models. The gateway and wall is the star of the show though! Quote
Tuskano Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 I really like the RGIs... I miss seeing those back when I played SWG. What are the light grey pieces on their winglets? For support? I'll have to read Crimson Empire too... Quote
Hrafnblod Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) I've been wanting to make a Crimson Empire style Imperial Guard (got the comic with Carnor Jax vs. Kir Kanos on an impulse at the grocery store when I was a kid freshly introduced to Star Wars, so a lot of nostalgia there!) and couldn't figure out how to do the torso. Deadpool's parts never occurred to me. Absolutely genius, looks perfect. Definitely using that idea! Love the red TIE interceptors, too. Edited May 24, 2014 by Hrafnblod Quote
kr-lik Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 very nice... the royal guards have some nice misticism to them... like the red! Quote
Nom Carver Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Those TIEs look great in red! my only complaint are those fins on the wings(?), I know they are there for accuracy but I personally dont like them in the original vehicle, and that gate is really menacing, you got the shape of the robed sculptures very nicely but their body seems a little small, I would recomend extending it a little to the bottom. Bucephalusfund Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 sorry for the bump, but could I request a PM of the LDD file for the royal guard Interceptor? Quote
GuyDudeMan27 Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 sorry for the bump, but could I request a PM of the LDD file for the royal guard Interceptor? Your best bet would just be to use Cornwaille's version. Outworlder hasn't been on in a while, and I don't know if he built it in LDD. I think he was just referencing other LDD builds. Hope I can help! Quote
Rishab N Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 This looks awesome. I like the wall you made for them. OT but I also like your Eclipse Quote
Xcod119 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Brilliant, love the IG army and look forward to (attempting) to assembling my own army and incorporating the new Shadow troopers. Quote
