simonwillems Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Excellent set, a shame Lego never released a Western trainset, I would have bought it for sure! 8- Quote
Athos Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Looks absolutely lovely. I'd snap this set up in a heart-beat if I ever saw it on the shelves. The figures are great. Monly complaint is the station is a bit small, but I imagine that's how it would be if Lego ever made it. You've really captured the essence of an official set here. The use of those crappy belville arches is also quite well done. Steve Quote
Tyger Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Simply awesome! I think this might be your best yet! I love it. Like has been said, it looks like an official set! You've gotta part list these man! I garauntee ppl would buy em! ;-) Nice to see the Wild West series live on in such high quality MOCs... the 12 or so sets Lego made never did the series justice. Cheers. Quote
Brick Miner Posted May 29, 2007 Author Posted May 29, 2007 Monly complaint is the station is a bit small, but I imagine that's how it would be if Lego ever made it. You've really captured the essence of an official set here.interesting... my first conceptualization of this set involved a much larger station. my MOCs are an exercise in conveying emotions, and the emotion for this MOC was going to be power (inspired by the locomotive) and awe (being the largest WW set/MOC i plan on doing). for power, i attempted to make the station look like an imperial trading post and fort legoredo mix. it had two tall towers, one being a clock tower (makes sense with a train station). this station design also included cranes for pulling freight off the wagons... and helped capture the trading post feel.however, after getting feedback from a few WW AFOL enthusiasts, i realized that a true WW station would be much more humble, and resemble something of a house. i realized my vision was a little skewed, and if fully realized could have been called the "Knights Kingdom 2" set of the WW :-D since i was going for LEGOs vision of the WW, i went with the more traditional design. however, a few aspects of that original concept transferred to the final design... the color scheme and signage resemblance of fort legoredo being one of them. -------------------------------------------------- I think this might be your best yet! I love it. Like has been said, it looks like an official set! You've gotta part list these man! I garauntee ppl would buy em! ;-) thanks ty... i think hands down, the train station has come closer to the LEGO feel than with any of my previous MOCs. i really can't wait to take some photos of the whole town of LEGOREDO, and put them on a digital background. my final vision is something like this...http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?C=m96west but with my MOCs included, of course ;-) as for the piece list... i have one, but actual instructions are a project for the future. anyone can just PM me if they want the piece list ;-) - Brick Miner Quote
alex54 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 yes, it so very true alex !!! im building LEGOREDO just as a town/city fan would build their modern town/city !!!right now, in my layout, i have my custom train station and saloon, and the official sets: sheriff office, general store, and bank (im also finishing a post office MOC too)... so that makes a total of 6 structures in LEGOREDO. add the train, and various carriages and wagons, and i've got my own city/town collection !!! just in a different time period ;-) i remember your "city layout growth" thread, alex... the map really inspired me, and the progression of the city, as it was built, did too. after seeing that, i decided i wanted to do the same with LEGOREDO, and that is what im doing !!! consequently, though, my ghost town has been destroyed :-D as my main focus is LEGOREDO now. in any case, someday i'll share my city layout and growth, very similar to your thread... and i'd love to make a LEGOREDO map, similar to your city map. very neat, graphic, and inspirational, alex *y* *y* *y* - BrickMiner Thanks! :-$ I hope that I will take the time to make a new map like that for my city'07. But I doubt, not so many times those days... Maybe 07 will be 08... I think that it's nice to have pics of our mocs, so we can see the evolution in the time, after 1-2 years... And I understand what you want to do with your LEGOREDO, because it's what I do with my city: mix official sets will mocs, to have a layout that can be taken for a LEGO catalog... Now we are waiting to see your so promizing pics of your WW city... And for your choice of the station style, I think that it's the good one. The station looks like what we have in the Lucky Luck comic strip. So this is the idea I have for how a WW train station looks like :-P Quote
birdie100 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I am amzed at such good quality MOCing. In all my time on Eurobricks, Lugnet or Brickshelf, I don't think I have ever seen such a well thought out and conceived MOC. Lego would be proud to produce this I'm sure... let's just hope and pray that someone like Jan spots these on this forum, and maybe turns it into an official set. On another note, seeing your MOC with the railway makes me ask one more thing - would it be possible to build a Wild West level crossing, a la Mario kart 64 style? That would be super cool, and could be a new set in your Legoredo range... Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 What a fantastic MOC! I love all the details, especially the station and the freight cars. I'd certainly buy this one, though I have to admit I'd probably swap out the locomotive for another. X-D I had always hoped LEGO would created a wild west themed train while the theme was active. A great opportunity lost for them, but it probably wouldn't have been nearly as nice as this. --Tony Quote

Definitely. The cowcatcher is very hard to illustrate with bricks, but I think Lord Sava has mastered it. TLG would have irrefutably made a chunky junior mold. I only realize afterward I personally own the DUPLO version. X-D *y* Quote

There is a setting in Mario Kart 64 such that you get to gauge your own record speeds alone on an item-less track and compare them with other player's records. The You-tube-rs are showing off their record time. :-D i've never seen that before... and what are you doing with duplo *wacko* :-P It's left over from at least a decade or so ago when I was young enough to appreciate it. :-D Hey, I'll make you a MOC! Minifig Lecturer Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 (edited) Brinkminer, This job is very professional. A good advert for you if the LEGO company is looking to recruit set or graphic designers. Considering LEGO don't do the Wild West theme anymore, would you not consider designing and selling a new WW theme yourself? With sets like these, it seems you could have a niche market here. Sir Dillon Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said, but I really like this. *wub* The details are great, and the editing looks good as usual. If I didn't know better, I would've thought this was a set. Quote
mutley777 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 HOLY COW!!! That is one hell of a stunning MOC. Those that know me here know that i am a star wars fan and don't buy to many other lego lines, but if i saw this on the shelf in my local TrU i would but it straight away! Truly awesome!! 8- Quote

With sets like these, it seems you could have a niche market here.no, i wouldn't sell these sets to anyone... well, unless LEGO wanted to buy the designs :-D ;-) really, i design these with a lot of speciality pieces, in fact, the more i can squeeze in the better (mainly because im using a LEGO building style). for example, this set includes a 1x16 brown brick... this is an element LEGO never released in an official set. and one can only assume it was created for a LEGOLAND miniland design. coming across this piece is not easy (i have two). so to reproduce these in any kind of measurable number, would be very costly and even with an infinite amount of money, may still prove to be impossible. WhiteHexagon Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 cool!!! well impressed, and nice photography work there. That's a set you could really play with AFOL or not. So when you going to start selling them? :) Peter Quote
Brick Miner Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 How long time did you spend all in all?oh man, questions without answers... i started the project 8 months ago (right after Ghost Town's Haunted Pass 6776) :-/ i want to completely finish an MOC every 4 months... but that doesn't mean i spend 4 months on each one... for example, i have 3 or 4 im working on now. - BrickMiner Quote
john cleese Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Another fantastic moc by Brick miner! honestly your photoshop work is amazing and you have a talent for mocing in official lego style. This is my favorite so far a great concept and well worked moc. But dont give yourself a pat on the back, because last time i did that i dislocated my elbow. Instead i will give you a standing ovation. Quote
Brick Miner Posted June 2, 2007 Author Posted June 2, 2007 The only thing I miss a little is the engineer and a boilerman (I guess the soldier is doingthat job). after reading back through the responses here, i realize i missed some of your questions Asuka !!! yes, the solider is actually not a soldier, but a train engineer !!! his uniform is based on a lionel train engineer statue that i saw on ebay a while ago, though i can't seem to find the reference via google now. i think the spiders got it ;-) i wish i would have saved the images on my computer, but i can't seem to find them off-hand. anyway, i think his uniform is pretty authentic to the time period.
