Zepher Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 Matthias stands back, allowing the elvish ladies to take the lead. "This place isn't safe, but we're dangerous, right?" he remarks to Malty. "I'm only ever dangerous when I need to be," says Malty sheepishly. "But yes, we're more than able to defend ourselves." "Have you seen dark entities lurking around? Chaos beasts perhaps? We were wondering if their habitat is around here somewhere." "I help those creatures into the world!" says the man. "They are the symptoms of Uland's darkness, and unless they are heard Uland will never be cured. There is so much darkness here, and no one does anything about it. My mind froths. War, terror, strife, famine - I see all these things. I see the chaos. But no one does anything to control it, to channel it. I am Valentine the Chaomancer, and I am here to bring order to the chaos, so that it may flourish. Chaos is a tool, but on this island, it runs rampant, and this island suffers for it. Now, as I said, flee. Or this land will consume you, as it has consumed so many others." How do you fare Sir Pigley? We have travelled far and fought some frankly scary enemies. "No better than worse than most days," says Pigley. "Nothing frightens Sir Russel Ruffers - but thank you for your concern, m'lady." Russel bows awkwardly atop Sir Pigley. Quote

Now, as I said, flee. Or this land will consume you, as it has consumed so many others." "This land may be chaotic in your eyes, but there's order to the chaos, that's how the world adapts. If you want the chaos to order, your order has to be greater than the chaos around here. Your creations aren't of this world, and so bringing them into existence disrupts the order. I'm afraid that your creations aren't up to scratch, as well, to effect any change in the near future. Dark goo pours out as soon as we hit it and it collapsed within itself. And I hate to say this, but your plan needs more refining. So before you bring more chaos in our perfectly orderly world of chaos, I would like to know how many Chaos Beasts did you bring into existence and can you control them remotely? We are on our way to Ve'er to deal with some real dark entities and chaos and I see that you have some understanding of the underworld, perhaps you could come with us and we can all benefit from that? Or you can stop bringing more mediocre creatures into existence and work on a more viable plan to bring order to chaos while we head on to Ve'er to stop the real chaos from happening?" Quote
Chromeknight Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Nerwen speaks quietly. The man is incoherent. Arguing with him will not change his actions and only frustrate you. Let us end him and move on. Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Purpearl does a quick comparison of the people she met throughout this journey. The Town Watch are the ones that are more incoherent... "Everyone should be given a chance unless it is crystal clear." Quote
StickFig Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Matthias, taken aback at Berthadhiell's conciliatory tone, says to Ruffers, "What do you think Lady Purpearl is up to? It's not like her to... talk instead of fighting." In a low tone he adds, "If this is where that beast came from, we should put an end to it and move on. I have no desire to 'ally' with such foul things." Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) "At least this beast doesn't talk evil. Unlike the ones that I've encountered while I was taken away. Not suggesting that you should encounter it yourself to feel differently. Just putting it out there. You've been through The Trials, some things are avoidable by fighting, some aren't. Nothing's set in stone in the world, doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a go." Edited September 24, 2014 by Purpearljellyblob Quote
StickFig Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Matthias merely bows in deference to the party leader's wishes. Quote
Chromeknight Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Nerwen spreads her hands, palm up. Good and evil we can deal with. They are each reasonable, comprehensible. These chaos things are other. They are the negation of both good and evil. There is nothing to be negotiating with things that do not understand negotiation. You are right, they do not speak evil. But do not think that means that they are good. Quote
Zepher Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 "Can you control Chaos?" howls the man. "No. I am but a shepherd. My beasts look out for me, but I do not control them. I am the messenger. I am the prophet. This island is plagued and it must know it. There are wars. Many die. The Elves and Lion Knights kill each other, and for what? For nothing. In my dreams I see the flashes. I see the slaughters. But no one speaks of it. not two years past, still many families mourn, but the denizens of this island move on. The Pongcanis starve, are left to die, though they are more native to this island than most. And no one blinks an eye. I watch the Pongcanis shrivel to nothing in my dreams. The slaughter of Loush, not two years past either, and who speaks of it? Who mourns the dead? I see them in my dreams each night- see them in my nightmares. Swirling faces, cackling. So many dead, and so many forgotten. This island is a plague. You must leave, or I will force you out, for your own good. Can you not see the evil?" Quote
Chromeknight Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Nerwen's voice is firm. Does one pour poison in a wound to cure it? Throw naphtha on a fire to put it out? Tear down a house to fix it's door? The ills of the world are obvious and not in dispute. Your solution is no solution though. Chaos will devour evil, true, but it will swallow good as well, overturn order and leave nothing but undifferentiated nothingness. Your cure is far worse than any plague caused by the brawling of mortals, invoking as it does the immortal powers who surround the world. Abjure your course, cease your foolishness, you will have no joy trying to dissuade me, servant as I am of Ennoc, of Galadrya and Celeborn and of all the gods. Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 You are right, they do not speak evil. But do not think that means that they are good. "Him being good hasn't crossed my mind after you've mentioned it. But the intentions were to gather him to our side, but we cannot erase him off just yet because he seems incoherent and non-negotiable." "Can you control Chaos?" howls the man. "No. I am but a shepherd. My beasts look out for me, but I do not control them. I am the messenger. I am the prophet. This island is plagued and it must know it. There are wars. Many die. So many dead, and so many forgotten. This island is a plague. You must leave, or I will force you out, for your own good. Can you not see the evil?" "That's the reason why we are travelling to Ve'er, to rid of the evil that you spoke so passionately about. Of course, we cannot get rid of it completely, but doesn't mean we let it run rampant. If we flee, we disrupt the scales of good and evil and we would be, inevitably dooming Uland by letting evil has its way. Evil brings chaos, and the chaos that you bring to existence would only hasten the processes evil takes against the good and you will be doing more harm to Uland than you would have imagined. I cannot guarantee what you might see in your visions after that but I can imagine it to be far worse that what you see at the moment. When that happens, would you bring more Chaos to counter the evil that continues to exploit Chaos to their own advantage? Have you wondered why Uland continues hold onto herself despite all the disturbing images that you see? Did you see the good that has been keeping the evil at bay? Are those visions of evil the only that you see?" Quote
StickFig Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 "I think if Chaos-For-Brains doesn't have a really good answer, really soon, we should just end this and move on..." Matthias murmurs to the party. Quote
Zepher Posted September 25, 2014 Author Posted September 25, 2014 "The chaos will cleanse this island." Valentine's eyes grow wide. "You think the good is keeping the evil at bay? No. No. There is evil everywhere. I see no good. The chaos must come. Where is the good? There is none." He shakes his head. "I have seen too much, and wish to see no more. Who do you race off to face? How do you know they are bad, and you are good? Is there not just more death, death followed by death followed by death? What have you actually accomplished but more darkness, more evil, more chaos? Who will stop it? Who can stop it?" The party hears some rustling behind them, and see, standing still behind them a Chaos Beast, weapon at the ready. As they watch two more join him. The Beasts seem drawn to Valentine's anguish. Quote
Chromeknight Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Nerwen draws her sword. She hums a note in tune with the gem embedded in the pommel and it begins to glow with a clear light. She speaks not the piteous figure before them but to her party. His equivalences are short sighted and naïve. Death is not the end. Death is not always darkness, darkness is not always evil, evil is not always chaotic. Chaos will not cleanse the island, for when Chaos comes fully, there will be no island, no sea, no world. No darkness nor light. No evil nor good and certainly no chaomancers surviving to witness the result of their folly. I say there are gods. I stand in their power. I say there is good. It is the will of those gods that we achieve by our actions. I say there is hope. The gods yet speak and make their will known. What say you? Do you stand with me against that which would not simply kill you but annihilate you utterly.? Nerwen lunges forward to strike at the chaomancer. Edited September 25, 2014 by Chromeknight Quote
StickFig Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 At the sight of Calmcacil moving forward, Matthias readies his cannon, aiming for one of the Chaos Beasts. Quote
Purpearljellyblob Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 "Chaosmancer, if you see what you see, you have failed to consider how blinded and misguided they are. Your visions are all but one side of the possible futures that you see. They might multiply positively or negatively depending on our actions. In your case with your sheepish Chaos, negative possibilities are multiplying as we speak. I don't think we can let that go out of control." Purpearl takes a second to get ready to battle as she sizes up her opponents. Quote
Zepher Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 "I am blind," cries the Chaomancer sadly. "The visions are all I see. Even before my eyes now I see them." Tears trickle down his cheeks. "Death is everywhere. I see you all in the now, in the past, in the future, killing or dead." The Chaos Beasts lunge forward as Nerwen presses the attack. StickFig Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Howdy again Flipz! Zoot A should be blinded now, I think. I enjoyed the Minecraft crack. As the angel descends, Matthias pumps his fist in the air. "Good show, Lady Calmcacil, Master Malty. To battle!" The gnome attacks Zoot B twice. Quote
