StickFig Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I'm qualified for cannoneer already. You? But he's not dead yet, and can be brought back by Avertine. I'd be more worried about RuffPig. "Yes. And he did that. Now will you uphold your end of the argument and face me like a man. Should the heroes consent, I will let you raise the bomber and they may all leave this arena. If you refuse, then you will die. I cannot raise him myself, or I would." Ok, so we all take the -1 health (which is a 4.76% loss for Matth, but only 1.35% for Alexis) from our amulets, accept zero loot, and get this over with, or we continue to throw time and consumables at a battle that has no good outcome. Setting aside my character's feelings and any pretense of roleplay, I want XX to die (loot), CrabPig to survive (fun character), and I don't care what else happens (though it would be nice for Matth to not lose health). Thoughts from anyone else? Matthias looks pensive for a moment as the offer is made, but then reloads and fires at Chauncey twice. Quote
Zepher Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 OoC: I have always made an argument for players to play the game however they want. If you're a loot sort of person, then so be it. I will happily say, however, that Matthias is a character I love, and I'd be sad to see you make a decision while ignoring him. It's the only comment I'll make on the matter, and this battle hopefully up to this point has exemplified that I don't have a specific ending in mind so I'm not pressuring you in any way, but I'd hate to see Matthias get over ridden all of a sudden, from a personal standpoint. Zepher Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 "I like you the least, Purpearl," says Chauncey. "You remind me of my dead Zelphie, but without her... strength, for lack of a better word I suppose. She believed the world was divided into the weak and the strong, a duality I find hard to grasp." The dead Zelphie stands stock still, unaware that she is being discussed. "But she believed too that the strong must protect the weak if they seek protection, and must eliminate them if they cause decay. It is not something I agree with. Who is weak and who is strong? But this I believe: you think of the weak and the strong, but only as yourself must be strong and that other must be weak. This Zelphie thought too. But this is your failing: when called hero, you answered as mercenary. That is no goodness. I cannot stop you from taking me with your neutralizer, but I can only despair the others are blind to you and that I am not." "I will note too that my power comes not from the great wilderness and chaos. The universe has given it to me through Alexis. She did what she thought good, and so she has helped the good. You do what you do with no regard for good, and so you do not aid the good. It means nothing to you." "You speak in circles," says Aventine with a secretive nod to Purpearl. Quote
Chromeknight Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) Sophistry. Nerwen snorts. It is not the duality that you find hard to grasp but its application. Yet you commit the same error labeling yourself good and your opponent evil. That you have done some good with a power given to you for purposes most clearly seen in the instruction that pits you one against another, the command to kill. Nerwen pauses then calls out, her words ringing with all the persuasion and diplomacy she can muster. Demon! Two and a half thousand days and more have you waited for this fight? Will you not wait one more?We were bound by these amulets to keep this servant of yours alive until the end of today. That is the only reason we interfere in your sport. Hear my bargain. Have these men return tomorrow and they will do so alone, as you intended, that one may forfit his life, the other his soul for the power you have given them. Give the doomed man one more day and you shall have one of mine. A day of one of the Tel'quessir, where any fruits of labours undertaken on that day accrue to you. What say you? Zepher Posted November 6, 2014 Author Posted November 6, 2014 "You listen, but you do not hear. I have spoken many times. That man beside is not evil." He points to Aventine. "Lord Aventine is my friend. But one of us must die today. It is intention, not action, that I kill him for. I do not believe that he wishes evil upon the world, and that alone is no fault. But I wish good for the world. That is better than wishing nothing. Even wishing for the world anything is better than simply wishing for one's self." The Master of Regret, finally truly addressed by the heroes, flares up, shadows wreathing him. "That is not a bad deal, Nerwen Calmcacil. Though you are not such a prize as some others - you do not regret as much as you should, though perhaps I'm just a tad bias. The danger, of course, is that by breaking this contract, you'll know that I'll willing to break yours." The Regret shrugs. "Besides, will Aventine let you go so easily?" And then, with the shadows swirling even higher: "Though I am not immune to temptation, you know. We Old Gods are Gods of hunger. I will eat whatever meal is largest." "You will not leave me to die," says Aventine with conviction. "If you leave his side, who will save XX?" Quote
Chromeknight Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Breaking my contract with him? I seek to fulfil it! And in a way I cannot if this battle continues, for Chauncey will kill Avertine shortly, despite my efforts. You can see I can be trusted. As for breaking your contract with Chauncey and Avertine, neither will quibble over another day of freedom, I have no doubt. This renegotiation of terms benefits them as well as you. Turning to Avertine she says. Consider your position, you are losing this battle, and cannot be saved despite our best efforts, there is no doubt you will die today if this continues. But tomorrow? Who knows? Perhaps you will find some who defend you from love rather than fear. Perhaps having measured Chauncy's strength you will be better prepared to counter his wiles. Perhaps without Alexis standing against you, a hero you brought here, you will stand more than the sliver of chance you have now. Quote

If you release us and those that you've hired, it would be Chauncey and you alone tomorrow and I am certain you will be the victor. There will be no Zelphie, no Alexis and no..." Purpearl looks at Russel. "Well Russel and Pigley might be present tomorrow to aid Chauncey if that happens." Purpearl closes in to Aventine and whispers, "Do what Chauncey says and raise XX, bring him with you tomorrow and make sure Russel won't be there tomorrow." Chromeknight Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Nerwen scrambles to the front shield ready to take a blow from Alexis that would otherwise fall on Avertine and make their weeks work meaningless. Hearing Purpearl order the undead against the prone form of Russel and Sir Pigley she yells Stop! What are you doing? They are no threat! Notes: Russel is effectively KOd. There is no gain to targetting him except for killing the character, which you should at least argue for and allow to be discussed rather than just slipping it in. Also, at this stage, Avertine's percentage move is to pop Zelphie for the HP and hold the rezzing of XX over us as an incentive to keep fighting, so don't be surprised if Zephs NPC-AI overrules you on either or both counts. And unless it goes into effect before Chauncey/Alexis act (and I've no reason to think it would, since it's next round) a shield roll for Nerwen would actually be bad for us.
