Hi, I'm new on this community. A little background, technic fan since 1978 with the focus on building technic models with a mix of play-ability and technic functions. Not on 'big-bigger-biggest'. The combination with Cad/Cam (MLcad) makes it fun to design/build with Lego. Last developments are the 8421XL crane truck and the Prinoth Leitwolf snow groomer project, which can be rebuild by everyone with MLcad. All files are public and can be found on my website.

I like to share these models (and others to come) with this European community.

My place of origin is The Netherlands.

Enjoy! Regards, Han

Very nice! *y*

Your Prinoth Leitwolf is neat and impressive with all its working features.... did it

really run on snow? Your 8421XL looks like a great advancement, interesting.

I'm sure it is bad form to comment on this 3 year old post, but I just wanted to let you know that your Snow Groomer model is absolutely fantastic. Just as a piece of sculpture the model is beautiful and it looks just like the equipment it is supposed to be. On top of that, the way you packed in 4 motors, 2 receivers, and a battery box is ingenious. The adjustable height suspension, hidden pump, and hidden V-6 make it even better. This is one of the best Mocs I have ever seen and I am proud to say that I have built it and have it on display as part of my collection.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful model and thank you especially for the huge amount of work you put into making the excellent instructions. I've done instructions for large Technic models and I know how much work it is.

By the way, I am in the process of building your new dump truck now! Another work of art. Keep up the good work and I'll keep building them.

I'm curious where you've got all these parts from? It's a 2454-piece design so I would much prefer (if possible) to buy an existing/official Lego set and then shop the remaining parts from Bricklink. I'll end up with some leftovers from the official set, but that would help me build up my technic spare parts. It would be quite the task to purchase everything straight from Bricklink I think :cry_sad:

Anyone have a good solution?

There isn't any set which has a large majority of these parts. I got my parts through individual Bricklink orders. Probably about 15 all together. The 8275 Bulldozer has all the Power Functions components.

The simple fact is that building such a model is a major investment in time just to get the parts.

I've just finshed the model. It is a cracking piece of design. Especially the use of the panalling on the tipper, it looks great along side the crane truck. The lifting 3rd axle is also really clever. I now can't wait for the nooteboom drawbraw trailer to be released. And then, looking ahead, I reckon the remote controlled excavator will just fit on the trailer with an appropriate amount of overhang of the tracks. Will need to look whether the boom will fit between the ramps when loaded. Thank's again Han for sharing such quality work.

In response on which sets to get, I have every major technic set since 1980, and still needed to spend $40 on bricklink to get the extra parts. A starter maybe the Cherry Picker, the Dump Truck, the crane truck and bulldozer, but you will still need to purchase the pneumatics. As blackbird says, there is a considerable effort to just aquire the parts. The BrickStore software on this site http://www.brickforge.de/ is really useful is you have an MLcad model and want to import it in to bricklink wanted list. (Note with Han's model, it works best if you remove the pneumatic tubing). Plus there is a nice actros to build on there too. I think that cost me about $100 in extra parts!

Blakbird bumped a 3 year old topic so I guess I'll follow suit :D I finally got all pieces together to build the epic Leitwolf of Han (minus 2 red technic pulley wheels, grrrr.. impossible to get), will post a shortish review when I'm done.

I did? You must be referring to RoscoPC's F1 cars. Even though that topic was started 3 years ago, there has been regular posting in it since then, some of it recently. In any case, you won't be disappointed with the Leitwolf. It is an awesome model, highly detailed and functional. The red pulley wheels are not very important, but guess who has one in their Bricklink store?

I was referring to your first post in this topic

I managed to find 2 new (!) red technic pulley wheels at Brickowl! I've also decided to not install the 95 1x7 thin LBG liftarms on the tracks, as I've only got 10 odd or so of those, and they're not exactly cheap, amounting to around 40 EUR in total if I were to buy them. Wasn't planning on field testing the groomer in real snow anyway  I will also use 8 black large sprockets in the center of the undercarriage instead of yellow ones, as I've only got 8 of the yellow sprockets, and further ones are also quite expensive to buy from BL.

I'm curious to see how this beast performs. Will probably behave similar to the mighty 8275.

I have built it and have found it to be incredible. I actually installed all black sprockets, tracks and black 1x7's just to keep things looking consistent. The 1x7 does actually tie the tracks together nicely. Mine has been built for two years and still gets questions asked when people see it. The modular construction is quite incredible and a joy to build.

Enjoy building it!

To be honest...Mr Han has cost me a fortune....but building an owning his models has been a fantastic experience and taught me a huge amount in technic building. His instructions are as good ,if not better than Lego themselves..he is along with the other awesome builders and designers on this great forum a great builder-designer and i thank him very much for the many hours of enjoyment his designs have given me and others. Hunting down the parts for these models is part of the enjoyment for me...it is the fisrt step in a long process with ultimate goal and prize being the build and the finished model. I have the 10x4 dumptruck , the low loader trailer and twin steer truck , the articulated hauler and finally Hans improved XL 8421.....all fantastic builds and great looking models. Im currently collecting parts for the snow groomer for the last six months.....65% there.....thanx again Han for your great work.

@jantjeuh: Actually the origina Leitwolf does have BLACK sprockets. However, at the moment of development I got only supplied by TLC with the yellow ones. Same goes for the tracks, they should be BLACK either.

@nychase: The first try-out in LesArcs2000 France (wintersports) of the Leitwolf without the 1x7 gray liftarms learned that the grip was not that good on snow. The second try-out one year later with the 'blades' showed improvement in that area, but indeed the blades do not really hold the both tracks together. I found out that is better to have one blade per every 5 tracks instead skipping one every time.

@squizz: Thanks for your kind words.... I do not know what to say... Especially that it cost you and a lot of others a fortune but that you enjoy it, as well as the hunt for parts :sweet:

It's still on my build list, I've built the 8421xl, and recently the drawbar trailer with gosseneck, which I want to connect on the crane truck 8258.

But I don't have the part list, the list on Han's page isn't complete, does anybody have the complete part list?

Greetings

Alex

Edit: Forget the question, I've found it, I haven't seen that the excel file is created in more sheets.

When I said, "ties the tracks together nicely" I meant that visually the whole package looks like one set of tracks rather than two running together. I know that they are actually running on the same gear train so of course they will always move together. For me the, the only piece just has hard as the red pulleys was the LBG #4 connectors when I built mine, havn't checked how rare they are now. If you look closely at Han's pictures you will notice that he didn't have too much loyalty to Old Grey vs LBG on the groomer and the old #4's are much easier to find.

I took some pictures of my version to share. The link is http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=538826

I was taking pictures of the Leitwolf and noticed that right next to is is my 8421XL (which is fitting for this thread). I modified that one a bit for the Firgelli actuators and a much higher boom raise (lego cranes look funky with their low angles).

  Correct, even worse.... I like to mix them.... nothing is exactly equal colored in real life IMO.

Yeah, I've submitted an update to the groomer inventory @ Rebrickable, several parts were listed as LBG but are only available in light gray.

Alright, then I will put 8 yellow sprockets in the middle and 8 black ones on the outside  Black tracks are surprisingly expensive, so I'll stick with DBG ones. Got plenty of those anyways, I have 2 copies of 8043
