Hello!

Now, I think 70212 CHI Sir Fangar is a decent set, but when I received a couple of the sets I couldn't help but fill in a few gaps where the set falls a little short. Here's what I got out of it:

Okay, so it looks relatively similar to the original set, so let me list all the MODs I applied to this model:

  • Filled in the gaps in the torso, especially at the sides where the spikes are, and put a Technic connector block near the neck to fill in a gap there.
  • Done away with the back spikes gimmick and replaced with something more articulate. This also freed the third port in the tri-connector to add another set of spikes.
  • Armoured and shaped the back, not only to give the cape some shape at the back but so the model looks good even with the cape off.
  • Sorted the asymmetry in the model, added transparent armour to the lower arms and modded the paws to let them hold the staff.
  • Added toe claws and some form of tail, and done away with the rather pointless second set of friction joints on the feet.
  • Bulked up the neck and shoulder area with the Chima fur pieces, as well as moving the fur pieces originally on the upper arm to the shoulders, thus allowing the arms to move a bit more freely while still maintaining the original armour.
  • Sorted out all the exposed axles on the staff by adding some Technic half bushes.

Comments are very welcome, and you're more than welcome to try out my MODs on your own Sir Fangar, if you are planning to get one :classic: Extra pics available on request. Enjoy!

Wow. This is beautiful. It may look less like a zombie-esque creature and more like an ice sculpture, but just...wow. It's elegant, bulky and monstrously awesome. Out of curiosity, which sets did you acquire to add the claws to the feet?

Thanks. I borrowed those claws from the saber tooth vehicle from the System set 70146, which I've had for a little while now. I really need to get some more, I can't bear to declaw my MODded Fangar to put the claws back in the System set now

Wow, that is very cool!

I can't wait to get my own now to 'borrow' some of your ideas!

Thanks for posting! :sweet:

No problem, borrow all you like, but I would recommend waiting for Sir Fangar's inventory to appear on Bricks and Pieces, rather than buy two Fangars like I did (well, I had a reason to buy two, I needed a second cape for soemthing else and they won't sell capes directly  ).

I plan to work my magic on CHI Fluminox as well, which I'll hopefully pick up tomorrow if my local LEGO Store has it, but I personally think that set is crying out for a MOD even more than Fangar ever was...

Nice mod. I was going to do something similar with my Sir Fangar. Can we get a picture of the bare torso without the cape attached? I'm curious to see how exactly you built the torso.

Certainly. The torso is actually a similar construct to the original set, just added some bits onto it and took away the 9L beam where the spike gimmick used to be mounted. Some pictures of the MOD without the torso armour might actually be more useful in showing the torso construct, but I also took one of a capeless Fangar from the back:

This is very cool! The modifications you did took this set from nice to outstanding! Can't wait for this to be released in the US.

This is freakin' awesome. Improving on a beast(no pun intended) set, this is heavenly. The only problem, I feel, is the tail and the amount of trans-blue. Kind of feels a bit jumbled, but great nonetheless.

Definitely an improvement! I don't usually buy sets or left them built, but when I do I almost always make my own mods.

Symmetrical design looks great there, and the back has some good shaping. Now if any of the real sets would have two printed armors as this one, but no...
