I love the look of Classic Town/City (especially 80s-90s) sets, but it's hard to find city layouts based on that design. I've been looking for classic-style layouts, but I can't seem to have much luck on that.

So, does anyone have links -- or maybe even pics -- of classic-style town/city layouts?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I do know our town index, laka. Thank you. But having been through its whole content, I've been looking for other classic town/city layouts (and it's nice to see that most of the pics in Google Images is from EB!). I think I just can't get enough!

You know I've been doing the same thing, looking for classic layouts, as I've been refitting my town and I've been looking for inspiration. I never got any of the classic sets unfortunately (I started in 08), but I've been amending that recently, theirs something about them I really love. My City is completely Town/City sets (I can't afford at the moment Modular's, road plates or Trains, plus, if I did get a modular, I'd probably take the back off), but it's not ready just yet for viewing. However, I do know there are plenty of Town/City layouts that aren't in the layout registry (I can think of at least three and I've only really been active here just over a year). I'll see if I can find any.

This has always been the first thing I think of when I think about classic layouts. My brother liberated this ad from a train, in Germany, back in the 80's. It's cardboard backed and laminated so it's held up well over the past 20 years. I couldn't get a great picture of it though.

I know the feeling  I am planning to rebuild my town/city collection this year. I want to make some layouts in a cronological order. Of course, I will post the results here on EB when there is something to show.

I have a few modulars. If they are going to be part of my town, I will also remove the back. My preference is also for the open-back buildings.

That's a great picture, you have got there, tkatt. I don't remember seeing this before. It must be from 1987. It contains a lot of classic models :cry_happy: And a rarity: The Black Falcon castle in the background. It was not often, you saw a mix of the themes at the time. But also it contains the red post office from 1982. I think it was not available in 1987. And next to the police station, you see a mix of two sets, namely the 6694 Car with Camper and the 6698 RV with Speedboat. Definately not a typical way for TLG to present their products or advertisements. You are really lucky to have this one.

Hi.

Did you mean something like this?

It's a work in progress and includes both classic 80s and some newer Creator and Modular elements.

I had a classic town layout, but it's dismantled now while the Lego room gets renovated. The only picture I have is one that was taken soon before it was dismantled, when other random Legos started getting put on the table. The oldest set in the town was from 1978, and the newest from 1994.

I'll post pics once it gets reassembled, but that will probably be at least 3 months from now.

Thanks for the pics, guys!

That add is great, tkatt, thanks for shring!

That layout is looking good, SuperJ76! I'm a conformist!!

Lady, please post those Classic layout pics whenever you feel like -- I'll be on the watch for them.

Iaka, I'm looking forward for your pics, too. A chronological build sounds really nice.

Please feel free to post whatever Classic Town/City pics, vids and links you find over the 'net in this thread. I'll do the same.

I think the main problem is most people no longer have their Classic town sets displayed, they are either packed away or parted out.... Having said that, here is a shot of my old display before I bought any modulars...

(There's more at my flickr photostream  )

Although this video might be more what you're looking for, this was put together after I came out of my dark age around a year ago:

I look forward to seeing your city in time

Very nice classic layouts you guys got there, timmyc1983 and bright22.

I guess most people went modular after that theme came out, going for similar builds. But I believe that the classic houses --at least-- are still fit for modular layouts, be them modular or not, or more similar to the Creator houses or not.

I also love LightningTiger's "neo-classic" builds and layouts. Be sure to check his New Mannum pages. The latest can be found here.

Hi, I found the old town layout index:

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=62405

Lot's feature modulars but a few are either Town or a cross between Town and City.

EDIT: mawich's city Brickshelf gallery, not in the link above, made of Town sets from 1978 to about 2000 plus a few MOCs:

Well, you can go both classic and modular as did I :)

Classic LEGO modular

my layout, however is lacking space, so usually they sit on my shelf behind my working desk and packed up in the closet. We only assemble them when playing on the floor.

The 80's are not 20 years ago anymore… face it, you're old ;)

Wow, this is such a great looking vintage poster/ad! I would love to get my hands on one of these!
