Rick Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 We've had several threads turn into discussions about gender equality and the like and it's no surprise to see some of the "usual suspects" in here again. There are more appropriate places to discuss these issues (there should be a thread in General). From now on, please discuss the set itself in this thread. If you'd like to discuss gender issues further, please find the appropriate thread to do so. Thank you. Quote
autorazr Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 To be fair, neither this project nor the CuuSoo voters who drove it were ever about "the set" either. And therein lies the problem with the whole thing. Or at least the point of debate. Yes it's a nice little set in its own regard, and the Dino skeleton is cute. But would this be getting anywhere near production if it was not "social justice in toy form"? And can nobody see where this quickly becomes a dangerous path for Lego to go down? (Note today's stories regarding Greenpeace going after Lego for its decades old partnership with Shell.) well thankfully I'm not the only one who sees a connection here. Its outrage, blame anybody but yourself, social justice culture. Lego is hot right now, therefore it is to blame for gender imbalance and climate change. When you see it spelled out like that "lego is responsible for gender imbalance and climate change" it seems preeeeeeeettty ridiculous doesnt it? There is nothing left to say about this set, its a fine set, it has some really neat ideas but its been said. If this cant be a place for healthy discussion, shut the thread down or move it. We are adults mostly, we want to talk about the world and how our favorite things impact it. Some of us cant do it without resorting to condescending words, but like, I'm american, in my culture, you're free to say ignorant condescending things all you want, so I dont mind. Quote

And for me, it was about the set (especially the dinosaur skeleton). Quote
Bricknblue Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Yeah I wanted the dinosaur skeleton in a $8-$10 set. Quote
fred67 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Me, too... it was definitely the dinosaur skeleton that sold it. I'm generally a defender of TLG when it comes to people complaining about lack of females in sets. Quote
Yooha Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Now I'm sure that the skeleton is white and not tan. (I had a slight hope unitil this) And that chemist girl seems like someone's having a bad day. I know that everyone smiling would be boring, but even a determined expression would have been better than this "oh crap, another failed experiment!". Quote
Boettner Builds Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I can't wait for this set! I'm going to buy a few of them! Quote
JGW3000 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 A quick mod, in LDD, to make the chemistry laboratory floor more realistic, as they always have floor drains , Usually round, like in my labs, but sometimes rectangular as well. Quote

Nod mod! Drains and storm sewer grates are always a part of my MOCs. Quote
Faefrost Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Do we have a release date for this set yet? It has to be soon. Jangbricks has a hands on review of the production version up on YouTube. So some review copies must be out there. Quote
Bookworm Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I really like this set; the detail of the dinosaur skeleton is great! I also like the telescope. Quote
rockethead26 Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Do we have a release date for this set yet? Lego US site says Aug 1st! Quote
cgarison Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Lego US site says Aug 1st! So I have to purchase this while I am trying to order from that limited quantity of available ExoSuits.... Great... Quote
Faefrost Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 So I have to purchase this while I am trying to order from that limited quantity of available ExoSuits.... Great... I think the safe bet is this one will have a similarly limited quantity. Quote
rollermonkey Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) Just finished this... I like it. It's a great concept. but... I gotta be honest: It doesn't really feel like a $20 set. It's more like three $5 Friends polybags in a box together. I mean, the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid is $20, also comes with three minifigs, is licensed, and is a heck of a lot more substantial than this set is. Maybe if they were on bigger baseplates, or something... I dunno. Edited August 4, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote

rollermonkey Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 OK, that makes me feel better about my low-ish opinion. Quote

Considering there is no associated theme/universe (except cuusoo/Ideas), the box and book are higher quality, a portion goes to the original designer, etc., I'm ok with $20 instead of $15. If this was licensed from a particular movie and at the same price point, I would expect a lot less. Quote
craiggrannell Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 OOS in the UK already. Shipping 19 Aug. I wonder if this too has gone to a second run, like the exo-suit? Quote
Player Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Not going to buy it. It's not a real "cohesive" set but rather a collection of mini builds. Quote
Faefrost Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Mine just arrived. It's a neat set, although this might be the first of these I leave sealed in the box. Quote
rogul Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 this is such a lame set there is nothing to it.. could have made it far more interesting Quote
