Posted June 4, 201410 yr Ever since I started collecting Lego and visiting EB back in 2008, I've loved Town/City stuff, probably due to my love of building cities with Matchbox cars and cardboard boxes when I was a kid. So, with all that in mind, I thought after years of visiting and enjoying the Town forum, it was about time I put something back. I plan to add something every week, whether that be a four wide car or a Police complex, so stay tuned! My first model I present is actually a MOD of sorts. I recently got a lot of Lego that's, basically, a jumble of 20 town sets half complete, so instead of sitting under my layout gathering dust, I decided I'd pick out some useful cars/trucks/vans via Brickset, vehicles I'd got nothing similar to in my collection, and build them via Peeron with various changes. This MOD is one such set. Based on 105 Canadian Mail Van, ( http://brickset.com/.../105-1/Mail-Van ) it's a van (how exciting)! I changed the colours, and changed some of the parts here and there, but I made sure I retained the classic feel. It's meant to have a refrigeration unit in the back, to transport fresh produce around my city. Meet Tom, the driver. (I knocked the door slightly while taking photos, so just ignore the misaligned door!) A side view, you can see how I achieved the white-blue-white look. You can also (just about) see the radio aerial I attached to the roof. A side view, not the added tail lights and the afore mentioned aerial. A back view. I added a small step for Tom to unload his cargo. Tom shows off the rear doors. "Nothing to see here folks.." he says. Only items that are 2X2 fit in the back, but Lego's smallest crate variety will fit fine. Tom shows the cab. I added nothing inside, so just your regular steering wheel. Wait a minute, who's that with the shot gun? It's Captain Black of Captain Scarlet fame! Looks like he has other plans for the truck's contents... If you have any questions, criticisms, suggestions, I'd be more than happy to answer them. Enjoy! Edited June 5, 201410 yr by Dr Leg O Brick
June 5, 201410 yr Author Thanks LT (If I may call you that)! I'm not a very good MOCer, far from it to be honest, I find I'm better at getting official sets and modifying them. That's not to say I don't MOC though! I may break my own rule and upload a Telephone box MOC tomorrow while I have spare time, so keep an eye out.
June 5, 201410 yr Your van has got a real classic town look, Dr Leg O Brick. If you want more space for the cargo, you can use panels, if you have any that fits. They were widely used in vans and ambulances in the classic era. EDIT: Your van could easily go for being from same company as 6653 Highway Maintenance Truck. Edited June 5, 201410 yr by laka
June 5, 201410 yr Author Thanks laka! I've been considering getting some of those panels, unfortunately I've got none spare, except in black, white, and yellow, so to save the colour scheme I stayed with the 1X1s in the mean time. The panels (I think) would also act as "shelving" for the larger crates (the 2X3s, if that makes sense). I'd never thought of that! Thanks for the idea, I love that truck, it always seemed a shame that (to my knowledge) no other vehicle sported the same colour scheme and insignia (though I'm aware a few tow trucks have had the same motorway logo and a yellow/red colour scheme, such as 6674 Crane Truck). June 6, 201410 yr Author So, as pretty much promised, a telephone box! Not based on any countries Telephone boxes in particular, I was inspired by the (few still complete) modern British boxes in terms of the reflective glass. Everything else just came from either my memory or imagination. The telephone box, designed to be sturdy, but also modular in a sense for quick destruction I mean, disassembly. A side view. When I got these panels I knew I had to use them for this project. Their stickers, I believe. The back, not meant to be viewed, I may add a printed piece or something to cover the back. Any suggestions would be great! Another side view! It's exactly the same as the other side, expect for the accidental reflection of my desk. A top view. An inside view. A pic of Joe inside the box. An extra "alternative" model, a British version! Complete with urinating drunken fool, smashed glass, burnt out innards, and nicked petty cash. Enjoy!
June 6, 201410 yr Excellent phone booth.....I've designed a few over the years.....very nice and I can't wait the see the other one........smashed glass and all ! Brick On 'Dr Leg O Brick' !
June 7, 201410 yr Nice models... Especially the classic style truck (takes me back to the good old days!!)
June 7, 201410 yr Author Thanks greg3 and LT! LT, glad you like it! Any suggestions on how to improve it? greg3, glad you like them, and I know what you mean! I've really been in a classic town frame of mind the last few weeks (after getting a whole heap of classic sets) so lots more in that style! I've had flu all week so I've been busy building stuff, so up next, a few jeeps, a classic four wide convertible, MODed Fire Stations, a merged classic Exxon fuel tanker, plus a few other things. June 7, 201410 yr The only issue I see is that it's too wide, I use a five wide design.....now it's possible to do a 4 wide using the old school door.....I'll look into that and try a few things out on LDD. Brick On 'Dr Leg O Brick' !
June 15, 201410 yr Author Thanks LT! I've had a go at making it smaller, and it looks better, I'll post pics soon. Well, seems like I broke my own rule again! My plan is to post something every Friday/Saturday/Sunday, so hopefully I'll stick to that! As I realise classic town isn't everyone's cup of tea, I've got something City based. I got 7208 Fire Station ages back from a friend for Christmas, I've MODed the building itself since, but more so the Fire Tender. Getting in through the roof? No controls for the ladder or the fire hose? It, personally, was asking to be ripped to bits and rebuilt, so here's the results. Comments, criticisms, and suggestions are all welcome, oh, and sorry about my "studio", it fell to bits after fifteen shots so it looks a bit dishevelled. Without further ado, A front-ish view, I added a side door, rearranged the parts on the bottom at the back, and added a handle bar for minifig safety. A side view. Fire officer Redshirt demonstrates the door. You can see the equipment inside a bit. The other side, note the nozzle controls. The inside, more controls and a couple of cheese slopes to illustrate a dashboard. Nothing fancy, also a TV screen is located under the white panelling for up to date info on blazing infernos. A parting shot of some intrepid Fire redshirts officers next to the tender. Enjoy!
June 15, 201410 yr Very nice modified fire truck 'Dr Leg O Brick'......keep them coming and Brick On !
June 16, 201410 yr Author Glad you like the Fire Tender LT! I'm tempted to post another but I'm going to try to stick to my schedule. I'd also like advise from everybody, I've made some 100+ civilians for my town, some interesting people in the crazy sort of way, do you think I should post them? Or would be people like to see them? And if so, where would the topic go? The Town or The Customization Workshop forum? Edited June 16, 201410 yr by Dr Leg O Brick
